Clara Schumann A Marvelous Musical Memory

In the 1800s, most women were not able to write
music or perform in public. One woman in Germany
changed that. Clara Schumann wasn’t able to talk
until she was 4 years old, but she was still very
talented! She practiced the piano for 3 hours a day,
and she was able to write her own music before she
was 10 years old.

She played the piano in her first concert in 1830,

when she was 11. She memorized the music, and
she was able to play it without looking at the notes!
She played in concerts in Germany, France, and
Austria. Other musicians like Chopin and Liszt were
amazed by her talent.

In 1840, she married another musician, Robert

Schumann, and together they had 8 children! She
was able to continue to write and perform music for
more than 60 years. You can still listen to her music
today in orchestras around the world.

Read the sentences. Check ( ) T for True or F for False. B
