I. Course Code: AEFIN1


II. Course Title: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

III. Course Description: This course introduces the student to Investment Management with Personal
Finance. It covers the basic aspects of financial decisions dealing with personal financial planning,
investments, and a working knowledge of microfinance. The subject will include analysis of financial
statements, budgeting, cash and credit management, investment planning (stock, mutual fund, unit
investment trust funds), insurance, and retirement and estate planning.

IV. Learning Outcomes: After completing this course, students should be able to:
1. Have a clear idea of the foundations of personal finance.
2. Read and understand financial statements and appreciate their importance to everyday living.
3. Manage cash, savings, and determine the necessary sources of credit to finance personal needs.
4. Manage investments like stocks and mutual funds.
5. Develop a deeper understanding of insurance, and retirement and estate planning.
6. Understand microfinance and its role in small and medium enterprises.
7. Develop an attitude of keeping abreast of the current developments in the financial environment.
8. Be conscious of his/her social responsibility in the application of his/her knowledge to financial
management decisions.

VII. Online Class House Rules/Guidelines:


1. This course shall be delivered through Online Flexible Learning with both synchronous and
asynchronous learning modes. Each week will consist of asynchronous activities, 1-hour
consultation time and 1-hour synchronous session.
2. Weekly course materials and assignments are uploaded to Google Classroom every Monday.
Students will be expected to complete their assignments during the Asynchronous Self-Paced study
time.
3. Students are encouraged to ask questions or clarifications about the uploaded lessons and
assignments during the one (1) hour weekly individual or group consultation time.
4. A scheduled one (1) hour synchronous session shall be used for the faculty to summarize the lessons
for the week, re-teach topics that need more explanation and conduct assessment such as
recitation or quiz to evaluate students’ learning.
5. Learning activities and assessments would be mostly outcome-based, and are to be submitted on
a timely basis.
6. All outputs are to be submitted to the instructor through e-mail, the address indicated below.
7. Students will be asked to form four groups, and shall work collaboratively to set up a webinar with
invited guests on selected topics on designated weeks in the course outline.
