Sub: Statement of Purpose for the Application of Student Visa

Respected Sir/Madam,

I, Jastej Kaur, an Indian citizen with Passport No.S4545179, wishes to boost

my career growth with a higher degree from Canada. I have been deemed
worthy of a place in Associate of Arts degree (Psychology) by The University
of Canada West, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The program is
scheduled to commence on January 10, 2022 and will continue for a duration
of 2 years. Now, I seek support from the Government of Canada to grant me a
study permit to pursue the same. It is to this purpose that I am producing the
statement of purpose before you for your kind consideration.

About Me and my Family

I was born and raised in Ambala, a small town in the state of Haryana where I
stay with my parents. Ours is a middle class family. My father, Mr Charanjeet
Singh is a Pharmacist, from whom I have inherited sheer determination that
helps me to stay focused on my work. My mother, Mrs Raminder Pal Kaur is a
Principal in a secondary school. Observing my mother work in the education
fraternity for 20 years has assisted me to find motivation to perform well,
academically.I have an elder brother, Mr Supreet Singh, who has just
graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from
Langara College in Vancouver, Canada.

My Academic Background

I have passed Class X from S.A.Jain Senior Model School, Ambala with 88%
marks in 2019 and Class XII from the same school with 88.2% marks in
Medical stream in 2021. I have been a very good student academically,
however, I have also been taking part in a lot of extra curricular activities as
well. I have hosted the Annual Day of the school in 11th Grade and
participated and won numerous debate, dance and singing competitions
throughout the school tenure.

Due to my excellent grades, achievements in extra curricular activities and my

overall behaviour, I have been very popular among my teachers and
classmates and have been trusted by my teachers to fulfill the duties of class
prefect for the last 3 years.

To prove my English Proficiency, I have taken IELTS exam on July 17 th 2021

and scored overall band 7.5 with sub score; Listening – 8.5, Reading – 7.5,
Writing – 6.5 and Speaking – 8.0.
Why did I choose Associate of Arts (Psychology)?

As a biology major in high school, the human body has always fascinated me,
especially the master of the human body: The Brain. My quest in deciphering
the complexities of the human mind has led me to choose psychology as my
subject for further studies. Driven by this high affinity for knowledge, I hope I
can learn and get answers to all the questions that have ever intrigued me.
Understanding how the world around us and other factors affect our mental
well-being, it can prove to be a great source to aid people who struggle to
cope up with their emotions especially during Covid times and help me to
recognize human patterns more definitively. Pursuing an Associate's degree
in Psychology can provide a good introduction to the field as well as can help
me to explore the field further.

Why study in Canada?

Canada offers high quality of education and the Canadian education system
has a blend of both practical and theoretical approach which can help a
student to learn in a more effective manner. The tuition fees and the living
costs are affordable and the educators are highly trained and bring diverse
perspectives to the classroom. Canada is a land of multiple ethnicities and it
welcomes people from outside with open arms. Canada offers a very high
quality of life and value people of all cultures, ages, religions, abilities and
talents. There are numerous communities and associations of which I can be
a part of and get a feeling of a home away from home. Canada is one of the
safest places to study with very low crime rates and cases of racial
discrimination.

Why did I choose University of Canada West?

University Canada West is a contemporary independent university located in

the heart of vibrant Vancouver. Established in 2004, University Canada West
is an innovative business and technology-oriented, teaching-focused
institution offering a range of career-focused applied undergraduate and
graduate degrees. It offers a multicultural environment, personalized
academic planning and advising services and have well qualified fully
engaged staff and instructors to provide student centred support. It has been
rated as a 5 star institution by the QS stars higher education rating system.
The class size is small, with an average of 21 students facilitating personal
attention by the faculty and high level of engagement..University of Canada
West was gracious enough to offer me a Scholarship for Academic
Excellence Entrance Award of CAD 10,000.

Financial Support

My parents will be bearing all my education expense in Canada. I have

already paid my first year tuition fees of CAD 17,400 to the institution and
have maintained a GIC account of CAD 10,175 to cover my living expenses. I
have also been offered CAD 10,000 as a scholarship for Academic
Excellence Entrance Award by the University of Canada West. As
communicated by the University, this scholarship would be disbursed
commencing from my second term of enrolment. Further my family is well
established in India to bear all my usual expenses during my Canadian
education.

Long-term career plans

Growing up in this modern age of technology, I've seen a lot of people
struggle with their mental health. While most adults find the courage to speak
up their mind, teenagers fail to identify their feelings and sought to find solace
in wrongful acts. If only, they would have been taught to find healthy means to
understand their spectrum of emotions, being a teenager would have been a
lot easier for some teens who have struggled to be part of the crowd.
To facilitate this, to assist these teenagers and to assure them that their
feelings are valid, I aspire to be a Clinical Therapist for everyone who's
struggling to live a happy and contented life that they very much deserve,
especially the adolescents that are struggling to understand this new
perception of the world that they have just started to develop.

Using this yearning as a tool, I want to spread awareness in my home

country, which is India, about the impact of our mental health on the quality of
our lives. I believe the concept of mental health has been deeply trivialized in
my country as people are not aware that a mental illness can be as fatal as
any other physical illnesses.
Unearthing different ways to proliferate this notion has become one of the
main objectives to become a therapist in the future.
