THE STRUCTURE OF A SIMPLE TV NEWS PACKAGE

CUE
Two or three sentences which summarise the story. The reporter’s
name must always be included. Usually 10”-15” in duration.

VIDEO
LINK #1 The reporter introduces one particular aspect of the story
with one or two lines of script. Avoid repeating the wording of the
cue.
CLIP #1 Part of an interview with a person involved in the story
LINK #2 The reporter looks at another aspect of the story, and
perhaps introduces a second interviewee, who appears in…
CLIP # 2
LINK #3 This could be a few lines of script over video images, or
script over a graphic
PTC Many packages end with a piece to camera (PTC) from the
reporter, rounding up the story and often pointing to where that
story may go next.
When a PTC appears at the end of a package, the reporter used a
“sign off” or “out cue” (for example, “Jane Brown, BBC News, Delhi”)
