Introduction

Strands in education has its own set of learning goals. It is a component of the curriculum
that tells how content is organized for the goal of structuring student learning. Senior high school
strands are designed to prepare students for college. There are different strands that are intended
to fit one’s skills, strengths, and goals. Other strands are belittled and people consider that the
students that took the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand are
the most intelligent and capable. Because of this, students disregard their own strengths and
passion to be in a “superior” strand. I hypothesize that an assessment that consists of questions
and tests to examine a student’s strength and weaknesses as well not disregarding their true goals
and passion, can help an individual choose his or her senior high school strand.

Rationale

The STEM stereotypes are not the only reason why the project has been made. Declaring
superior strands would not help in identifying what is one’s best path. Students may have been
perplexed or uncertain about which strand to pursue until now. Nowadays, students are under
pressure from their peers and family to have a clear picture of the future they want, especially as
they approach college. Peer pressure and family history are two major influences on a student's
future. Everyone, in fact, has their unique set of strengths and shortcomings. That is why each
person's interests are divided into several strands. The aims and ambitions of their children
should not be overlooked by their parents. When it comes to deciding one's own destiny, an
individual must be willing to share his or her opinion.
Objectives:
1.) Help students know their strengths and weaknesses through assessments
2.) Determine other reasons of stereotyping
3.) Know the true goal of a student and;
4.) To solidify one’s choice for preparation in the future
Project Description

A strand test is given to upcoming senior high school students. It consists of an

examination with 200 items, and a written essay about the student’s realistic goals and ambitions
in life. The questions are related to the various subjects: Technology and Livelihood education,
Physical Education, English, Economics, Science, and Mathematics. The test will be done in
public and private schools yearly. The students will be given 9 hours to complete the assessment.
The participation of DepEd will ensure that the examination will be sufficient in examining the
individual’s skills and abilities.
