COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

10 GENERAL

1.1 Communication between the rigs and Drilling office/management is of

paramount importance during daily rig operations and emergencies. The rig
Foreman must have the capability to consult the Superintendent and
Engineering on a daily basis as workover activities progress. He also needs
to be able to communicate the Toolhouse to follow up on DRSS requests for
required materials and equipment, and contact Service Companies to
schedule upcoming rig work. During critical operations or emergencies, the
Foreman needs to keep the Superintendent fully informed of the transpiring
events, and be able to discuss action alternatives as well conditions dictate.
The importance of an effective communication system cannot be stressed
enough.

2.0 SYSTEMS

Every workover rig is equipped with more than one communication system to
ensure uninterrupted service. Each system has limitations, however, a
combination of these systems complement each other.

2.1 V-Sat unit

This is the primary communication service for all rigs. The V-sat Unit is
installed at every rig to enable use of telephone / data (internet)
communication at rig during normal operation. It has capability to run
computer equipment, fax machine and 07 telephone sets.

2.2 Trunk Radio Desktop

This is a fixed radio and it is installed in every rig Foreman’s office to enable
communication with management if incase of V-Sat communication is non
functional (as back up) or an emergency situation exists at the rig.

2.3 Trunk Radio Portable (Handheld)

Each rig has one Trunk Portable Radio. This radio is to enable foreman to
communicate to rig and his superintendent while the he is out of office.

2.4 Trunk Radio Mobile (Vehicle mobile)

This mobile radio is installed in each onshore rig Foreman’s vehicle to

provide the capability to communication with the management in case of an
emergency. The radio will only be used when at a safe distance from the well
site.

2.5 Satellite Mobile phone

Each rig has device available which has the capability to communicate with
remote sites through satellite. The device is compact, battery charged,
portable and easy to operate. Also this device has Fixed Ducking Unit (FDU)
installed at foreman’s office to enable him to use mobile phone while he is in
office.

2.6 VHF Portable Radios (Handheld)

Every rig is equipped with 06 (six) VHF portable radios. These radios are to
be used inside the rig to communicate each other for daily operation.

2.7 Base Station VHF System (Aviation Radio)

This radio is installed in each offshore rig’s radio room and it has capability to
communicate with helicopter/chopper.

3.0 REPAIRS

All communication problems should be reported to “Communication Repair” by

calling 904. A trouble ticket is issued and the faulty communication equipment is
repaired or replaced thereafter.
