PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2
Learning Area
Writing a Research Introduction, Frameworks of the Study
Topic

Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) with code:

Describes background of research - CS_RS12-Id-e-5

After the completion of this learning activity sheet, you should be able to:
1. write a research introduction;
2. search for theories related to the chosen research title;
3. craft conceptual framework.

pen, paper

Research introduction includes information which would focus attention on

the importance and validity of the problem. It is the general orientation to the
problem area. A brief rationale to justify the problem must be provided. This is the
present state of knowledge regarding the problem.

CONTENTS OF AN INTRODUCTION
Answer these questions: What facets of the problem (phenomenon) are
known and what need further investigation? What approaches have been used in
research of the problem?
For a good background, the researcher can state the antecedents of the
study, the reasons why this topic is proposed relative to previous studies.

1
Specifically, the background shall include the following:
1. discussion of the problem in general and the specific situations as
observed and experienced by the researcher (macro to micro
approach);
2. concepts and ideas related to the problem including clarification of
important terminologies; and
3. discussion of the existing or present conditions and what is aimed
to be in the future or the gap to be filled – in by the research.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
The theoretical framework introduces and describes the theory which
explains why the research problem under study exists.
Misconceptions on Theory
1. “Evolution (sample only, can be other theories) is just a theory”.
-This is wrong because theories do not merely exist as display but a basis
to understand things.
2. Theories become facts when they are well-supported and/or proven.
-Theories will never become facts. Because theories will explain facts.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
-schemes, models that illustrate the variables
Forms
1. IPO/ Process Framework
2. Cause-Effect/ Content Framework
3. Conceptual Map Framework
2 ways to create/generate conceptual/ theoretical framework
1. Knowledge to variable
2. Experiential Knowledge
-Technical Knowledge
-knows how to manipulate ms word and possesses research
skills
-Research Background
-knows the mechanics in making the frameworks
-Personal Experiences
-able to incorporate experiences in making research

General Directions: Read all the parts of this Learning Activity Sheets. If you have
some confusions, you may ask the teacher to clarify those questions.

Activity 1
Directions: Write your research introduction in accordance to your research topic
stated below. Follow the format given.
ABM/ICT - “COVID-19 Pandemic: Its Impact to Online Business’ Profitability
GAS - “Parents’ Perception on the New Normal Education”
HUMSS A - “Self-Learning Modules: Its Pro’s and Con’s”
HUMSS B - “Parents’ Perception on the New Normal Education”
HUMSS C - “Traditional vs. Modular Learning: Its Disparities based on the
Teachers’ Lens”
STEM A - “Level of Awareness of Tandag National Science High School
Students towards COVID-19 Pandemic”
STEM B - “Impact of Lockdown to Child-Parent Relationship”

Activity 2
Directions: Craft your frameworks of the study in accordance to your research topic
stated in the previous activity. For theoretical framework, search two theories
that will support your study. For each theory, have two (2) paragraphs: the first
shall contain the description of the theory and the second is the relation of the
theory to your study. For conceptual framework, use Cause-Effect/ Content
Framework that has only two rectangular boxes.
