1. What have you learned with the different topics that have been discussed under
General Geology?
The first thing I learned in the report of group 1 is the importance of Geology in
Civil Engineering. As engineering focuses on structures and buildings, studying geology
may play a vital role in becoming a good civil engineer. I also learned the introductory
knowledge of earth structures, earthquake, ground water, and weather. And also, their
importance in the field of civil engineering.
Since geology teaches us all the knowledge about the site used in the
construction of buildings, dams, tunnels, etc. Additionally, it also play an important role
in designing and construction of structures and buildings. This knowledge may help us
until we are engineer.
2. Describe and explain the role of geology in the design and construction process of
underground openings in rock.
Geology educates us all the knowledge we should know about sites and
geography. It also teaches us all things about rocks, which is the most common material
used in the construction. So, geology played a vital role in the design and construction
process of underground openings.
Having a knowledge of geology helps in designing the opening of the underground.
As the dimensioning of the opening is important, geology can helps determine the right
size and shape of the underground so that the underground will be stable and durable.
Geology can also help in choosing the right materials to be used in constructing the
underground, as it is also important to use the proper material because it will depend
on these the safeness of the underground. Lastly, geology can help us in choosing the
best place to be constructed on, as geology main focus is to study the structure of the
earth. We will have some knowledge to choose a place with great geography and
weather.
