DETAILED LESSON PLAN

School North Central Grade level V

Mindanao College
Student Teacher Regine G. Malana Learning Area Mathematics
Teaching date Quarter
Teaching time Section

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard Demonstrates understanding of the concept of time, perimeter,
area, and
volume.
B. Performance Standard Is able to apply the concept of volume to mathematical
problems and real life-situations.
C. Learning Competencies Solves routine and non-routine problems in real-life situations
(write LC code for each) involving the perimeter and area involving squares, rectangles,
triangles, parallelogram, and trapezoid.
II. Content Measurement

IV. Procedures Teachers Activity Pupils Activity
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Class are you excited for our lesson
presenting the new lesson for today? Yes, teacher.
Ok, very good!
So, class our lesson for today is all
about solving routine and non-
routine problems in real-life
situations involving the perimeter
and area involving squares,
rectangles, triangles, parallelogram,
and trapezoid.
B. Establishing a purpose for the Ok, class do you have any idea No, teacher.
lesson what perimeter is?
.
Ok, the perimeter is the length of
the outline of a shape.
To find the perimeter of a
rectangle or square you have to
add the lengths of all the four
sides. x is in this case the length
of the rectangle while y is the
width of the rectangle.
So, the formula is.

The perimeter, P, is:

P=x+x+y+y
P=2x+2y
P=2(x+y)

And now let’s proceed to area.

Ok class, what is area?
The area is
measurement of the
Ok very good. So, area is surface of a shape.
measurement of the surface of a
shape.
ok now, to find the area of a
rectangle or a square you need to
multiply the length and the width
of a rectangle or a square.

Area, A, is x times y.
A=x⋅y

Did you understand class?

Very Good.
Yes, teacher.
C. Presenting I have an example here. About
examples/instances of the lesson the perimeter and area.

Example:

Find the perimeter of this

rectangle:

P=7+7+4+4
P=2⋅7+2⋅4
P=2⋅(7+4)
P=2⋅11
P=22in
So, the perimeter of this
rectangle is 22 in.

Find the area of this square.

A=x⋅y
A=5⋅5
A=25in2
Ok class remember that there are
different units for perimeter and area.
The perimeter has the same units as
the length of the sides of rectangle or
square whereas the area's unit is
squared.
D. Discussing the new concept
and practicing new skills #1

E. Discussing the new concept Very good class. Since you already
and practicing new skills #2 understand our lesson for today let’s
have an activity.

I want you to group into two. Each

group will be given different problem,
after answering I want one
representative to explain your work.
The group that can explain their
solution properly will be given 100
points.
Understood? Yes, teacher.

Group 1. The volume of a rectangular GROUP1

prism is 192 cm3. If the prism’s length is Solution
twice the height and width of 6 cm, find Given,
the dimensions of the rectangular Let the height be x.
prism. Length = 2x
Width = 6 cm.
Volume = 192.
By volume of a
rectangular prism,
⇒ 192 = x(2x) (6)
⇒ 192 = 12x2
On dividing both sides by
12, we get
⇒ 16 = x2
⇒ x = 4, -4
Substitute
Length = 2x ⇒ 2x 4 =8 cm
Height = x ⇒ 4 cm
Therefore, the dimensions
of the rectangular prism
are 8cm, 6cm, and 4
Group 2. The volume and base area of a
rectangular cargo container is 778 GROUP2
m3 and 120 m2. Find the height of the Solution
container? Volume of a rectangular
prism = base area x height
778 = 120 x height
Divide 120 on both sides.
778/120 = height
height = 6.48 m
So, the height of the
container is 6.48 m.

F. Application Draw the indicate figure and solve the

problem.
1. A Sewing box is 12 cm by 9 cm by 6
cm.  what is its volume?
2. How many cubic meters of soil has
to be removed for the for the
foundations of a building 52 m long
and 35 m wide if the hole is to be 1.5
m deep?
3. How many jewelry boxes 10 cm by
6 cm by 4 cm can be packed into a
box 50dm long, 4 dm wide and 3 dm
high?

G. Making generalization and  How do you solve for the volume of

abstraction about the lesson. rectangular prism? -by multiplying length x
What is the formula used? width x height -V=lwh
-V=Bh

Very good!
Is there any questions or
clarifications regarding to our lesson
for today? No, teacher.
Very good. So, let’s have a quiz.
H. Evaluating Learning

B. Read and answer each question.

1. A cube is a rectangular prism

with the same measurement for
length, width and height. If a
cube is 4 inches tall, what is its
volume?
2. 2. A desk is 1.5 feet wide and 5
feet long. It is 3 feet above the
floor. What is the volume of
space under the desk?
3. 3. A drawer is 5 feet wide, 4 feet
deep and 2 feet tall. What is the
volume of the drawer?
4. 4. A block that is 2 inches wide,
3 inches long, and 2 inches tall.
What is the volume of a tower
that is built by 3 blocks?
5. 5. The closet is 6 feet wide, 5
feet deep and 8 feet tall. In the
closet, there is a suitcase that is
2 feet wide, 3 feet long and 4
feet tall. How much room is left
in the closet?
