Questions

1. What is procedural justice and police legitimacy? Explain shortly. Is it effective based on
the empirical research?

2. What are the four procedural justice principles? Explain each of them.

3. Please apply procedural justice principles to a scenario related to SQFs (traffic stops or
pedestrian stops), or victim of any crime, or suspect of any crime, or any type of police
citizen encounter. Choose one of them and write a SCRIPT (i.e., conversation) that
includes procedural justice principles. DO NOT DESCRIBE THE SITUTATION,
EXACLTY WRITE THE CONVERSATION. Write the principle first and then write the
script under it and do it for each principle.

4. Explain your own opinions about procedural justice. Do you think it works? Is it
practical? Can procedural justice principles reduce complaints about police in general?
Provide your own justifications.

Instructions

1- Paper is to be submitted via Moodle.

2- The word document will have “.doc” extension.

3- The assignment should be no more than three double-spaced excluding references with
1-inch margins, and must be typed in Times New Roman, 12-font size.

4- The paper should be formatted in the American Psychological Association (APA)

5- CITATIONS MUST BE DONE APPROPRIATELY WHEN NECESSARY. PAPERS


WITHOUT CITATIONS WILL NOT BE GRADED.

6- Approximately, the first two and half pages (it might be a bit less) should be based on the
assigned readings. The remaining part of the paper (between the quarter and half page)
should include your opinions about the questions.

Grading
The paper will be graded as:
 “Check plus”: It means that you have mastered the material, incorporated all of the
assigned readings, and provided very interesting commentary.

 “Check”: It means that you have understood the material, incorporated some of the
assigned readings, and provided relevant commentary.
 “Check minus”: It means that you missed the point on the material, failed to incorporate
the assigned readings appropriately and/or did not provide relevant commentary.
 This grading will be converted to numerical grade.
 Based on this rubric, please grade yourself. Put your grade at the end of your paper just
to give insight to me. That does not mean that this will be your grade. Your actual grade
may be the same, may be higher, or lower.
