A. Circle the letter that corresponds to the correct answer.

1) B
2) C
3) A
4) C
5) B

B. Answer the following questions

1) Gases are in gaseous state under ordinary conditions like at room temperature and one
atmospheric pressure. Vapors are in solid or liquid state in ordinary conditions, but change into
gaseous state under specific conditions. Therefore, we can say that acetone in the gaseous state a
vapor.
2) In solids, particles are tightly packed with ordered arrangement. In liquids, particles have a
disordered arrangement. In gases, particles have a totally disordered arrangement.
3) The aim for simple distillation is to purify drinking water of unwanted chemicals and minerals
such as salt. Simple distillation is achieved using two primary methods known as flash distillation
and fractional distillation.
4) The formula of Carbon Dioxide is (CO2) which clearly tells us that it is composed of two oxygen
atoms covalently bonded to one/single carbon atom.
5) Mass cannot be used as a property to identify a sample of matter as it is an extensive physical
property which depends on the amount of matter in a sample, not the type of matter it is.
6) Solids are not as easy to compress as gases because solids are in a rigid arrangement with the
particles packed closely together while gases have their particles relatively far apart and can move
freely.
7) a. Blue-gray color – physical
b. Brittle – physical
c. Does not dissolve in water – physical
d. melts at 1410℃ - physical
e. reacts vigorously with fluorine – chemical

8) a. Methanol
b. Sulfur
