Creating a B-Size template drawing (with attributes)

All drawings for this course will be output to a B-size (11x17) sheet. Although
this is not a "usual" size for civil drawings, it is sufficient for our purposes.

1. Follow the instructions/specifications to create a B-size title/border template

drawing.

2. Insert attributes for the title block.

3. Insert the drawing into a layout.

4. Create layers as specified.

5. Set linetypes as specified.

6. Save as a dwg file.

Create three layers representing:

attributes

border

titles

Do not place dimensions onto the drawing.

Draw the outlines on the border layer.

The title text must be on the titles layer.

Add the text into the positions shown.

All text is 2mm height (non-annotative)

Blocks and Block Attributes

Blocks are also referred to as SYMBOLS.

A block is a collection of drawing entities and embedded objects (other than

drawing components) that is given a name and is grouped into ONE object.
These complex grouped objects (blocks) may be inserted into drawings
multiple times, and reused over and over again. One of the main benefits is
not having to repeat complex drawing creation. Any drawing may be made
into a block and saved for further insertion into any other file.

A block will take on the object properties that are current at the time of
insertion. In general, it is good practice to insert a block on Layer0, and move
it afterward to the preferred layer. As well, if a block is created with a layer
composition, these will be inserted as part of the block definition (colour,
linetype and so forth). These parameters may be edited later if they are
unsuitable.

Block Attributes - text type information that is stored in a block definition.

The purpose of this segment of the exercise is to create a block definition that
will be saved as a TEMPLATE. This template will have an embedded
title/border with attributes.

Use the table below to create Attributes definitions for the titleblock:

Attributes
TAG PROMPT Default Justification Height
DATE Date Drawn mm/dd/yy Left 2.5
SCALE Drawing Scale NTS Left 2.5
DWN_BY Drawn By AAA Left 2.5
DRW_# Project Number WXX Left 2.5
SHT Sheet Number 1 Left 3
TOT Total Number of Sheets in set XX Left 3
NO Revision Number A R1 Left 3
DATE Date of Revision mm/dd/yy Left 2
REVISION Revision Description Description Left 2
The attribute definitions will be placed as shown in the following diagram. The
Revision attributes will be placed at 90 degrees (use the option in the
ATTDEF dialogue for insertion angle).

WBLOCK is short for "write block". This command writes a block definition to
an external drawing file with the file name and location that you specify.

Type WBLOCK

The write block dialogue box will display.

You may pick the base point (lower left corner) or type in the coordinates.

The OBJECT select button allows you to drag a window about the entire
drawing. Alternately you could use the "entire drawing" button
(recommended).

You MUST give the block a NAME and DESTINATION (location in your
directory) to store the block as a new drawing file.

Close your drawing file (save it first)

Select LAYOUT1 tab at the bottom of the drawing screen.

Right click in the layout tab to open the Page Setup Manager dialogue box.

Select Modify...
Select the printer/plotter appropriate (pdf)

Set the paper size to 11x17 and OK the dialogue box. Close the Page Setup
Manager dialogue.

Insert the block you have just created into the new drawing file.

The Enhanced Attribute Editor dialogue will display. Select OK to dismiss it.

Right click in the Layout1 tab and RENAME the layout to Civil2021.
