Google Search Tips and Tricks

1. Explicit Phrase: When searching for something specific, to minimize the guesswork for Google
search, use quotes. When you put your search parameters in quotes, it tells the search engine to

m
search for the whole phrase. If you are looking for content about online marketing. Instead of

er as
just typing online marketing into the Google search box, simply enclose the search phrase within

co
double quotes; “online marketing”.

eH w
2. Exclude Words: Let’s say you want to search for content about online marketing, but you want

o.
to exclude any results that contain the term advertising. To do this, simply use the “-“ sign in

rs e
front of the word you want to exclude; online marketing –advertising
ou urc
3. This OR That: By default, when you do a search, Google will include all the terms specified in the
search. If you are looking for any one of one or more terms to match, then you can use the OR
operator. (Note: The OR has to be capitalized); online marketing OR advertising
o

4. Words in the Text: If you want to find a webpage where all the terms you're searching for
appear in the text of that page (but not necessarily beside each other), type in allintext:
aC s

followed immediately by words or phrases; allintext : online marketing

vi y re

5. How to Search Within a Website : Often, you want to search a specific website for content
that matches a certain phrase. Even if the site doesn’t support a built-in search feature,
you can use Google to search the site for your term. Simply use the site:somesite.com
ed d

modifier; site: www.forbes.com “online marketing”

ar stu

6. Related Search: If you want to find new websites with similar content to a website you already
know of, use the related:somesite.com modifier; related: google.com.
7. Similar Words and Synonyms: Let’s say you want to include a word in your search, but also
want to include results that contain similar words or synonyms. To do this, use the ~ in front of
is

the word; “online marketing” ~professional

Th

8. Word Definitions :If you need to quickly look up the definition of a word or phrase, simply use
the define: command. You can listen to the word's pronunciation by pressing the megaphone
icon; define: marketing
9. Specific Document Types : If you’re looking to find results that are of a specific type, you can
sh

use the modifier filetype:. For example, you might want to find only PowerPoint presentations
related to online marketing; “online marketing” filetype:ppt

c. What will be the role of ICT in the context of your professional track? What role will ICT play
vi y re

in your future profession?

Answer: When used pedagogically, ICT can enhance students' learning outcomes and digital
competence. Evidence shows that an early exposure to STEM and ICT has a positive impact
on students' perceptions towards those subjects, and can ensure that students are digitally
ed d

competent when they leave school. Businesses can facilitate this early exposure through
ar stu

meaningful partnerships with schools, therefore making STEM careers more attractive to
students. In addition, the school and home environment have a shared role to play in
ensuring this early exposure, in view of the fact that technology has a positive effect on
students' motivation, self-confidence and self-esteem, especially when students have a say
is

in choosing the technology they use. Engineering is not only about the experimentation and
Th

learning. It is about the impact it has on the society. Information and Communication
Technology has been the branch of Engineering that humans have used all through the
evolution process for being the most advanced creature on the Earth. Moreover developing
countries try to improve their lives and gain a competitive edge using Information and
sh

Communication.
