ABSTRACT

Education is the key in obtaining the future that we want for our lives. It is in every

student’s goal to graduate from a higher education and earn a college degree from their

chosen field, in hopes of achieving the job they desire and gaining more opportunities in

the process. Recently, the Philippine’s old education system have been updated in the

implementation of the K-12 Program, adding the Senior High School (Grade 11 and 12)

in the education curriculum. The promised of the program was to fixed the old issues of

the education system and administer changes within the society, in which it will provide

graduates with the skills and competencies that will guide them to prepare for higher

education. In correlation to this matter, one of these issues is the lack of readiness of the

students for higher education. The students are having a difficult time transitioning from

high school to college and adjusting to the higher level of course-works, entirely different

from what they are used to way back in high school. The researchers decided to conduct

the research to look upon the issue regarding the college readiness. The main objective is

to interpret a quantitative analysis on the program and the students' college readiness. The

grade 12 s\students under the Academic Track (ABM, HUMMS and STEM) of Perpetual

Help College of Manila were chosen to be the respondents of the study since they were

the ones who were under the program and experiencing it. Quota Sampling Method was

utilized in the study. The researchers also distributed surveys to the respondents, in which

it follows the Likert Scale Questionnaire. Findings reveal that the Senior High School

Program is a factor in enhancing a student to be "college-ready", through the skills,

competencies and knowledge they have attained and improved from the program. As a

recommendation, the outcome of the research shall be exercised as a ground in

conducting another supplementary trace research of this study, assessing a much more

accurate practice assessment due to the fact, that the local standardized tests are scarce

and lastly, another study should be conducted that are applicable to all of the strands

about the senior high school program.
