WEEK 1

NOTES
TERM DEFINITIONS
• A trinomial is only said to be a perfect square if;
- The first and last terms are both perfect squares
• Trinomial - an algebraic
- The middle term is the twice the product of the
expression that has three non-
zero terms and has more than square roots of the 1st and 3rd terms
one variable in the expression - The sign of the last term is always positive
• You can factor a perfect square with these steps;
Example 7x2 – 9x + 6
- Square the 1st and last term
• Factoring – is the reverse - Copy the sign of the middle term
process of finding a Example:
product x2 + 10x + 25
= (x + 5)2
• Perfect Square Trinomial Determining the missing term to make a trinomial
- is a trinomial that can be a perfect square;
written as the square of a ~ 1st/Last Term ~
binomial. - Divide the middle term by 2
- Find the square root of the 1st/3rd term
-Example: 4x2 -16x + 16
- Divide the result of the 1st step to result of the
2nd step
• The greatest common factor
- Square the result of step 3
(GCF) of a set of numbers is the
largest factor that all the ~ Middle Term ~
numbers share - Find the square root of the 1st term
- Find the square root of the 3rd term
- Example: 12, 20, 24 - Multiply the result of the 1st step to the 2nd step
GCF = 4 - Double the result of the 3rd step

REFLECTION
- For this week’s lesson we mostly learned about perfect square trinomials. A perfect square
trinomial is a trinomial that when factored, it will give you the square of a binomial. Also,
factoring is the process of finding a product but reversed. I think that this lesson was a little
bit difficult for me to grasp at the first time but then eventually got to understand it better,
this is because it had many steps involved especially since I believe my mind was still
adjusting to the brand-new school year; Nevertheless, I still consider this lesson as a
success since I eventually got the hang of it plus I think that this was a great refresher for my
mind since it involved past lessons from the last school year.
