Overview ETMA stands for embedded telemonitoring and telealarming, meaning that the ETMA
system features a telemonitoring and telealarming capability integrated in a single platform.
The telemonitoring function provides data of the elevator installation to TACC.
The telealarming function provides alarming of and voice communication with TACC
(or any other point of assistance) to the occupants of the elevator car.
– The telealarming complies with EN81-28 and EN81-70.
– The firefighter intercom functionality complies with EN81-72.
– In case of a power failure, the ETMA system receives emergency power from the
controller backup battery
(> 1 hour for EU installations and > 4 hours for NA installations).
ETMA can be used with elevator controllers of type CO BIC 5, CO BX and CO MX.
The basic ETMA system consists of two ETMA modules, one in the machine room
(or LDU) and the other one on the car roof.
The ETMA system is hierarchical with one master and one or more slaves. The master
only communicates with TACC.
The communication within the ETMA system uses a 2-wire link, called ETMA link.
Each ETMA module has a DC power supply.
The ETMA system can be extended with:
– Intercom communication (between machine room/LDU, car and firefighter)
– Triphonie (voice communication for the technician on the car roof or underneath the
car)
– Inductive loop device to assist car occupants with impaired hearing.

Range of The ETMA system can be used with the following elevator configurations:
Application Simplex elevator
Duplex elevator
Multiplex elevator (up to 8 elevators).
Not available for ETMA with CGW for GSM transmission.
Each ETMA system serves exactly one elevator as shown in the overview graphic.
Restrictions ETMA is not a stand-alone system and requires compatible ETM software in the
elevator controller.
ETMA cannot be operated in together with other telealarming and telemonitoring
products such as TM2-TAM2, for example.
ETMA has to be connected directly with a public PSTN line, it is not allowed to have
PBX/PABX interfaced to ETMA or any other phone line emulating solution.

System The telemonitoring function of the ETMA system provides data of the elevator installation
Description to TACC.
The telealarming function provides alarming of and voice communication with TACC (or any
other point of assistance) to the occupants of the elevator car.
The telealarming complies with EN81-28 and EN81-70.
The firefighter intercom functionality complies with EN81-72.
Concept
The ETMA system is hierarchical with one master module and one up to three slave
modules.
– The master module exclusively communicates with TACC, the elevator controller
and the slave modules.
– The slave modules do not communicate between them.
– Exactly one slave module ETMA-CAR-* must be connected (directly or indirectly)
to the master module.
– The ETMA system is "plug and play". There is no manual configuration needed.
The communication between master and slave module uses a 2-wire serial data link,
called ETMA link.
No additional cables apart from the ETMA link cables are required.
The basic ETMA system consists of two ETMA modules, one in the machine room
(or LDU) and the other one on the car roof.
The ETMA system can be extended with:
– Intercom communication (between machine room/LDU, car and firefighter)
– Triphonie (voice communication for the technician on the car roof or underneath
the car)
– Inductive loop device to assist car occupants with impaired hearing.
Power Supply
Each ETMA module draws DC power from the elevator control power supply.
In case of a power failure, emergency power from the controller backup battery is fed to
the ETMA modules (> 1 hour for EU installations, > 4 hours for NA installations).
Diagnostic
The ETMA system features a diagnostic function based on interpretation of the signaling of
a pair of LEDs (green, red) at each ETMA link port of an ETMA module.
For details, refer to EJ 41700383 Diagnostic AC TMA 1.
ETMA-CAR The basic slave module ETMA-CAR is connected to a master module ETMA-MR-PSTN
and to COP in the car.
The basic ETMA system uses ETMA-CAR.
Extended ETMA systems use ETMA-CAR-T.
Features
One upstream ETMA link interface
Loudspeaker and microphone (for alarming and intercom)
Push-to-talk button (for intercom)
Alarm input (DAKI with AMD)
Signaling LARC and LAGC (on COP) (for alarming)
Power and emergency power from the power supply of the elevator controller
A pair of diagnostic LEDs at each ETMA link port
Sticker with part identification and connector designations.
ETMA-TRI The two optional extension modules ETMA-TRI are connected to the slave module
ETMA-CAR-T and provide alarming and intercom functionality to the technician working on
the car roof or underneath the car.
Features
Interface to ETMA-CAR-T
Loudspeaker and microphone (for alarming and intercom)
Push-to-talk button (for intercom)
Alarm button DAKA without AMD (for alarming)
Signaling LARC and LAGC (for alarming)
Sticker with part identification and connector designations.
SW Update All ETMA modules feature a MMC/SD card slot for the loading of new software versions.
For improved data integrity, the SW transfer is enhanced by a checksum function.
