OBJECTIVE:
To design and simulate Clipper & Clamper circuit Design.

THEORY:
Clippers are networks that employ diodes to “clip” away a portion of an input signal without distorting
the remaining part of the applied waveform. A clipping circuit consists of linear elements like resistors
and non-linear elements like junction diodes or transistors, but it does not contain energy-storage
elements like capacitors.

A clamper is a network constructed of a diode, a resistor, and a capacitor that shifts a waveform to a
different dc level without changing the appearance of the applied signal. A clamping network must
have a capacitor, a diode and a resistive element. The magnitude R and C must be chosen such that
the time constant RC is large enough to ensure that the voltage across the capacitor does not
discharge significantly during the interval the diode is non- conducting.

EQUIPMENT:
(1) Adjustable DC Power Supply

(2) Signal diodes

(3) Resistor

(4) Capacitor

(5) Function generator

(6) Connecting wires.

DISCUSSION:
For clipper circuit, theoretically we get Vo = 2.7V when Vi >= 2.7V for (+)ve half cycle. But in
experiment we got around 3.7V. Theoretically we assume that, the diode is silicon diode and
voltage drop through diode is 0.7V. Voltage drop through the diode used in experiment was
around 1.7V. For this reason, this error occur.
