Exercise 5.2 Answers:

Question No# Answer

Any difference in the carrier and BFO
15 frequencies would cause distortion in message
signal, which may be recovered properly
17 0.333 ms
18 3 kHz
The 3 kHz LSB frequency is the recovered 3
19
kHz message signal
20 (455 + 452) kHz = 907 kHz
Yes, waveform is the 907 kHz USB output of

the PRODUCT DETECTOR
Yes. The recovered message has same 3 kHz
23 frequency as the message signal to the
MODULATOR

Conclusion:

This lab strengthened our knowledge of modulation using multi-channel software and hardware.
We are now able to describe how an RF filter is tuned for an SSB signal, calculate the power
gain of an RF amplifier, and adjust the mixer to produce a 455 kHz SSB signal from the IF filter.
We are also able to describe the operation of a product detector and an audio filter, and explain
how the automatic gain control (AGC) circuit maintains the amplitude of the recovered message
signal. Book exercise and questions were used to enforce this learning.
