The World is an Apple by Alberto S. Florentino

Characters:
 Gloria - The wife of Mario. She loves his husband so much.
 Mario - The husband of Gloria. He loves his daughter so much. He shows his fatherly
love by saying that he can sacrifice his job just to get an apple for his daughter.
 Pablo - An old “friend” of Mario. He is the antagonist of the story because he is a bad
influence to Mario.

Setting:
 An improvised home behind a portion of the Intramuros walls. Two wooden boxes flank
the doorway. At left is an acacia tree with a wooden bench under it. It was here that the
poor family lived, and it was here that the story began with how life was going on and
ended with the complexity of life in which the main character found himself with no
choice but to return to his former habits.
Plot:
 Mario enters from the left side of the roadway. He's in his late twenties, dressed
shabbily and with hair that hasn't been cut in weeks. Gloria greeted him, and Mario
asked about the condition of their child.
 Gloria asked money to his husband but Mario can’t give him anything because he lost
his job a week ago. He thought that he can find a job in a week but he didn’t.
 Mario went to Pablo for a job and Gloria didn’t knew about it. So, when Pablo showed
up in their house Gloria got angry and Pablo told her why he is really there. Pablo’s job
offer is a dirty job that Mario hated doing before.
 Gloria thought that Pablo just poisoned Mario’s mind again but he admitted that he was
the one who came to Pablo first since e is desperate.
 Mario accepted Pablo’s offer so he went with him and left her crying with their
daughter.

Dialogue:
 The dialogue can clearly tell the story. The conversation between the characters is very
expressive since I can feel and read the emotions, feelings, and understand their
thoughts. And I can definitely acknowledge the actions of the characters that motivates
the plot. The conversation between them is written in a concise and clear manner.
