NOTE: Throughout this project, we will be working in a spiral. Do NOT slip stitch
at the end of your rows, place a stitch marker in the first or last stitch of your row
so that you can keep track.
NOTE: The body and head will be worked in one piece. Be sure to
stuff as you go.
Starting with the legs, using the color BLACK and a 9MM hook
Round 13: On the second leg, SC 4 to make sure the the color
changes are facing the same direction on both legs, this will be
the backside of your chunky cow. SC into the other leg, and
continue to SC around both legs. (24)
At this point, you may notice a gap or hole between the legs. To close the hole, simply
take a strand of the white yarn and weave it between the legs, cinch it and double/
triple knot it closed.
Don’t forget to stuff as you go! You will want to make sure you stuff your cow firmly.
Here is where we will start the head. Don’t forget to stuff the body firmly!
At this point, we will insert our safety eyes. Place the eyes
between rounds 31 and 32 about 5 stitches apart.
Now, you may finish stuffing (making sure your cow is stuffed firmly) and sew the
head closed going through the front loop of each 6 stitches, then pull it closed.
Secure your end, and hide it inside the body.
Make 2 arms. Using your yarn needle, sew the arm shut
across.
Fasten off. Make 2. Do NOT stuff the ears. At the opening of the ear, fold it in half to
form the ear shape. Sew the ear shut using the tail of the yarn. Leave a long tail for
sewing to the body.
Fasten off. Make 2. Stuff the horns. Leave a long tail for sewing to the body.
Round 1: Chain 4. SC in the 2nd chain from the hook. SC 1, then place 3 SC in the last stitch,
turning your work to start crocheting down the opposite side of the chain. SC 1, then place 2 SC in
the last stitch. (8)
Round 2: Place 2 SC in the first stitch. SC 1, then place 2 SC in each of the next three stitches. SC
1, then place 2 SC in each of the last two stitches. (14)
Note: Keep in mind the stitches for the cow spots aren’t that important. I usually just
randomly place DC’s, HDC’s and SC’s. So feel free to make your own spots!
Round 2: Place 1 HDC and 2 DC’s in the next stitch. Then place 2 DC’s in the next. Place a HDC
and SC in the next stitch. Place 2 DC’s in the next stitch. Place 2 DC’s and 1 HDC in the next
stitch. Place a SC in the next stitch. Place 2 DC’s in the next stitch. HDC in the next stitch. Slip
stitch into the next stitch.
Fasten off. Make 4 spots. Leave a long tail for sewing onto the body.
