So, hello class as of today I’m your substitute teacher because you’re teacher messaged me that I have

to discuss this topic, so we will not waste any time. So first, since I don’t know your names we will have a
short interview for ourselves (Name, and Hobbies). I’m Jeremy V. Makalintal and you can call me Sir J my

Before we proceed to our topic, let’s first have our attendance (Kristel, Clarence, Kim, Marianne, Aero)

Ok class, everything is good and let’s proceed. So our topic for today is Criteria in Selecting,
Citing, and Synthesizing Related Literature.

So first, writing a Literature Review is not a simple task because you need to have these skills, first one is
the time management skills and note taking skills. Writing this work is hard unless you know on how to
manage your time because this part takes time to finish. Also, Note taking skills is the most important,
why? For example, your group is conducting a research about the Efficiency of Using Cellphones for
Online Class, and you’re searching for the web related to your topic. You should consider what to take
down notes on your study because we do not want to write information that is not related to our topic
because that may weaken or lead to downfall of your study. Also, when your reading some data, be sure
to write it down because if you finish reading the whole data, you may get lost on what you have to
write down and that may waste your time. You also must know what to look at and where to look at.
Moreover, when you’re searching for the web for related data to your study, be sure to look at the
author’s name, page number, details of publication, and the websites because these may help you to
save your time in the most proficient way. Secondly, how important literature review is? Because, these
part involves the critiquing or looking over again what other researchers have done in relation to the
present study. We are also able to identify any strength and weaknesses in previous studies and
eliminate these weaknesses and bring fourth to potential strengths.

So here are things to consider when we search for studies and literatures

1. This part is important because, what is true yesterday may not be true today. For example,
when we were at elementary days, we are taught that there a total of 9 planets in our system,
that is the Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto. However, today
there are only a total of 8 planets because Pluto is not considered as a planet anymore. So we
need materials that must be recent as possible.
2. Some materials that can be found at the website are biased but some of them are not. These
should be avoided; all results of research must be based on observed facts and not opinion.
3. Only materials that have some similarities or related to the problem should be included. Also, if
the findings of other researchers doing the same study as yours are logically opposite, disregard
it and use it to dig more and to uncover the truth.
4. The materials should be sufficient enough to give the researcher insight to their study, because a
good research study is not based on how thick the pages of the literature but on how relevant
the information are on the literature.
5. This is important because this will make your data valid and reliable. Hearsay or rather rumors
must be totally avoided.
