“PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
Pemisire is the name...Yes! That is my name, this might be the first time
you may have ever heard the name because it's not one of those names you
hear on the Street, every now and then... Pemisire literally means "To be
called for good things, or to be beckoned on for good things..." The literal
translation is this;
PÈ = call
MÍ = me
SÍRE = to goodness
I heard my father who was a carpenter was at his workshop when he was
called upon that my mother had given birth to me". On hanging up, it
seemed like my coming to planet earth was an opening of the windows of
Heaven for him...Almost immediately, his phone was on fire, different calls
from clients who had forgotten him, new clients who wanted him to work
for them, debtors who felt the urgent need to pay him back his
money.....and the icing on top of his cake…he received a call from the
Embassy to come and pick up his Visa... That was how I got my name, my
father said, my birth brought about him being called for good and great
things, hence I was a carrier of goodness...
But...

But.....
My mother had me at a small hospital, the room was a dark room dimly lit
by a small lantern, as the community had not had electricity supply for 2
years and using the generator was a luxury the small clinic could not afford...
The moment I was birthed by my mother, the electricity supply that had been
an issue for two years suddenly resurfaced...
The hospital staff couldn’t contain their joy, the country was in its hot season
and they were always sweating profusely. My mother told me the general
talk in the hospital was that I was a special child who had brought light back
to our community...The hospital staff gave me a name immediately "Imole"
(Light).
All these and more were great signs of how special a child people thought I
was, but barely two months after my birth the story changed...
As I grew, I had the challenge of sitting still, my neck was tilted to one side,
and my face structure wasn’t like the regular...

At the time, My mother was working as a secretary at a small law firm but
my coming to her life took that job from her... No Daycare centre was ready
to accept such a child, also she couldn't leave me with my father who was not
happy with the child she had given birth to...
"So that his mere sight will send away all my clients"
"This thing is not my son, Only God knows where you got this abami
(mysterious creature) from...."
"Then go and give that child to God to keep for you while you are at work,
Nonsense!" Mother said Father had stormed out after saying this...

My father stopped providing for my mother’s needs...Her in-laws made
things worse by saying my mother was possessed and that was the reason she
gave birth to a "Mysterious looking child"... My mother told me that by the
time I was eight months, she had grown so lean she knew she needed help. I
was a handful and with no financial support, life was becoming unbearable
for her.
After much thoughts, she went to my grandfather who was a pastor. *****
Baba mii (My father), why did God decide to punish me by giving me a child
like this? I got married as a virgin, I was never promiscuous. You taught me
the ways of God and I followed that way, so why would God give me an
imbecile as a child?” My mother lamented " Stop it, my grandson is not an
imbecile, but a special child who is hidden under the shadow of the Almighty,
because of the magnitude of great destiny he carries...When the right time
comes for him, He will manifest" My grandfather had said
My mother said she thought to herself what could ever come out of an
imbecile child... "Baba mii, Look at him, at eight months, he looks like a 2
months old baby, Baba mii, my life is at a standstill, my marriage is suffering,
my husband now has several girlfriends, he no longer gives me money...he.."
"Abigail, is money your problem? If that is your problem, I am ready to stand
by you till Pemisire fulfils the great purpose God has for him. God doesn't
make mistakes...Pemisire was created for a purpose". My mother told me my
grandfather was her rock. With those encouraging words, my mother
returned to her husband's house only to find an empty house... My father had
travelled to the United Kingdom.

PART 4
“PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi O. Akintunde
My Mother had to look for a way out of her lack. She did all sorts of menial
jobs but they never lasted because of me. My sight was always a put-off...
She said there was a time, she worked at a food canteen and days after she
started working there, the patronage of the canteen dropped drastically. The
Owner of the canteen made her findings and she realized that people could
not eat where an imbecile child was. My mother was fired because of me.
On getting to the new vicinity, she came up with a way out of the lack. She
started frying beancake at a major bus stop. However, to avoid buyers from
seeing me, she would lock me up in the house for the hours she was out
selling.
This was how she continued for 5 years, locking me up in the house every day
for 3 hours. She said the neighbours knew she had a child in the house but
no one was willing to have me in their houses as my face was scary.
Whenever my mother brought me out during the day to play and I wanted to
play football with the other kids, they would run back indoors...
I wanted to play like them, I never knew why they didn't want to play with
me...I would always smile, despite I was drooling, but they never smiled back.
11

I managed to ask her once, why the other children never wanted to play with
me and without replying me, she went out...
She returned with a big mirror. She placed it right in front of me and for the
first time ever I saw my image and...
I saw who I was.....a piece of garbage, God’s creation mistake...When God
was creating me He probably made a mistake and instead of trashing me, he
gave me to the poor woman who I had become a misery to.
I wept...

I must say, that step my mother took must have been the greatest mistake
she made with me. Before this, I thought I was a regular child, but with the
mirror experience, I realized I looked like a monster...
Several things followed this... I recoiled, I never spoke again, I never smiled
again, I never wanted to play again, I wanted to stay indoors all through
until my grandpa came visiting again...
" Great Pemisire, the great deliverer of our time, a mighty man of valour,
Wisest among men, Fearfully and wonderfully made by God to confuse the
enemies, the one specially created by the ABBA Father... "My grandpa was
my only friend, he made me smile, he always tickled me, and he bought me
a pack of cartoon character handkerchiefs... Those were the days of
Spiderman... He told to always wipe my mouth, he said it in a way that didn't
make my drooling a bad thing...
" Pemisire, you need to learn to wipe your drool, do you know I also sweat
a lot, sometimes I sweat so much it looks like someone poured a bucket of
water on me, and I have to carry 5 handkerchiefs with me everywhere I go
everyday... So everyone has their peculiar issues, you just need to learn how
to manage it... "
Grandpa stayed with me for three days and those were one of my happiest
days on earth, but before he left, he sat my mother down and told her I
needed to go to school... He promised to take full responsibility for my
education... Grandpa also spoke to me at length...

“No! I don’t want to.... be in school” I said, although deep down I wanted to.
My neighbours had a lesson teacher who came around to teach them every
evening and from my window, I watched them. From there, I learnt the

But I was scared of the looks I would get. The few times I had gone out of our

“My name is Abigail, by the time you will be reading this, I Probably may not
be alive... Pemisire insisted I write some chapters in his book.
Pemisire is my only child, but the only child with a BIG CLAUSE...He was
not the regular child, he was the child you couldn’t take out to the park with
you, a child that made heads turn, not in a good way but with the look of
despair, disgust, fear and ultimately hatred...
My mother had married another man at my young age, so the only person I
had left was my father, my only ray of hope...He would tell me God told him,
Pemisire was going to be great...but it didn't make sense, a child who looked
like a mysterious creature...
His name Pemisire did not reflect one bit in his life, I had the feeling he was
Pemisiibanuje (Called for sorrow).

I obeyed my father and took Pemisire to school...I cannot tell who was more
scared, Pemisire ( the deformed looking child of mine) or I ( the mother of
the abominable child). From the neighbours to the bike man who was to pick
us from the house, I could tell Pemisire and I were in for real trouble...
“Madam, I am sorry I can’t pick you and your son... I am sorry, please look
for another bike man...” said the bike man...

The bike man left with no pity on his face. We stood for another 15 minutes
with no bike man stopping for Pemisire and I. Ordinarily, I would have been
discouraged by the looks I was getting and would have retreated to the house,
but I had this unusual strength from within...
“Pemisire, we will get to school today! You will be educated whether the devil
likes it or not”. I took my scarf and wrapped it around Pemisire’s large head
to avoid people seeing his weird head.
A tricycle stopped beside us and I mentioned the name of the school we were
headed. Obviously, the driver and the two other passengers did not see
Pemisire’s features properly, so they were not bothered.
The driver also screamed and became unstable. Pemisire’s act was sudden.
The driver started swerving as Pemisire kept hitting the man’s head
continuously...
The driver managed to pull up and he jumped out of the vehicle, Likewise
other passengers...
I broke into tears...By this time the scarf had gone off Pemisire’s Head. The
driver and the other passengers stood outside the tricycle calling out other
passersby...

“Omo Abirun Lon gbami Lori“(An abominable child was hitting my head in
the vehicle) said the driver
“Omo Esu ni, O FE pa wa je” (He is the child of the devil, he wants to kill us
and make a meal out of us) said the first passenger...
“No wonder, my priest said I should not go out throughout this week, but
because I wanted to get drugs for my daughter I disobeyed today... My God,
is this how this mysterious being would have killed me today.” Said the
second passenger.
I stayed in the tricycle not wanting to come out, it was going to be a walk of
shame. Pemisire was not helping matters either... he was throwing tantrums
because he couldn’t reach the driver... He wanted desperately to reach the
driver...
With pains and tears to God, I covered Pemisire’s Head with the scarf and
got down. I pulled him forcefully as he didn’t want to get down from the
vehicle...
“Noo...ooo” He slurred angrily splashing his saliva all over the place...

With pains and tears to God, I covered Pemisire’s Head with the scarf and

vehicle...
“Noo...ooo” He slurred angrily splashing his saliva all over the place...
At that point, he looked me in the eye and saw my tears. Some unspoken
words were said between us through our eyes. I could read him saying...
I believe Pemisire must have chosen my happiness over whatever was going
on between him and the driver as he willingly alighted from the tricycle and
followed me...
I saw people spitting in disgust, some covering their faces like my child was
something horrific.
I took the walk of shame as I earlier imagined. I wrapped his head properly
with the scarf with the intention of returning home but it seemed Pemisire
was in my head and he didn’t like what I was thinking. He tapped me and
shook his head in the negative...
“No... oooo...S.c.h...ooo...llll” He slurred

“No... I....g..o tooooo S..c...hoool” Pemisire insisted and he would not let me
pull him towards home.
We had become the center of focus. I was confused and I felt like I was going
to pass out with the different echoes of terrible words
“The mother is probably a witch and has eaten the brain of the child!”
“When She was pregnant, She must have walked under the scorching hot sun
and the evil spirits chased out the real baby and replaced the baby.”
“Or she must have offended some witches when she was pregnant!”
“No! These kind of Children come from God to punish a woman who has
offended Him...”
The words kept pouring out of people’s mouth in different dimensions. The
different school of thoughts of why I had a deformed-looking child was
tearing at my heart and the last I remembered was looking straight into
Pemisire’s eyes and blanking out.

(Pemisire’s P.O.V)
I watched mama drop on the floor. I lost interest in what was happening to
the driver. My Mama was on the floor, but my terrible look kept people away.
I wobbled away from my mother although she held on tight onto me. As I
noticed I was far away from her, I beckoned on them to help her.
They got my message and people moved towards her pouring water on her...
People donated money for my mother out of pity but no one came close to
me. The zeal for school left me and we returned home.

“Pemisire, tell me why you decided to disgrace me in public?” My mother
asked me “Listen to me, you are not an imbecile, I will not treat you like one
and you Pemisire will not act like one. The next time you try that again, I will
beat you blue black” Mama said and I saw a lion coming out of Mama... The
lion wanted to bite me. I ran and sat in a corner...I shivered in tears...
“Mama… p...l..ea...s..e” I cried, but she kept charging towards me. I didn’t see
Mama again, I was seeing a fierce Lion... I knew I needed to run...I started
throwing tantrums.
How come I had been seeing strange things all day? That was not my first
time of seeing things my Mama said she didn’t see... but that day was
different, I was seeing strange fearful things. First I had seen that the driver
had a lot of ants on his head, and out of being helpful, I was hitting his head
and Secondly mama had suddenly turned to a Lion...

“Pemisire, I am sorry...I just got angry...you know how difficult things have
been, and what you did today was strange, I saw a new you. You hardly throw
tantrums, so you hitting a stranger’s head was uncalled for. Did you think
that was fun? No! That was not fun. If the world sees you as an imbecile, don’t
act like one. Pemisire, you have more work to do. If other normal children do
what you did today, the driver might have just smiled at the child or worse
scolded him a little, but you are different... You are ABNORMAL…which
means ABOVE NORMAL. Pemisire, you are above Normal, God raised the
bar when creating you that is why people see you differently. You are a higher
Spec, and that places a high responsibility on you, you shouldn’t play childish
games. You can play with me, but not playing rough with strangers. Do you
get me?” I said with a loud voice trying to charge him up
*****
(FROM PEMISIRE’S ANGLE)
I didn’t hear anything she said…. To me it was a Lion roaring at me, and all I
did was cry profusely to the point of urinating on myself. Mama saw my urine
on the floor and that made her crazier. She went into the room and brought
out one of my belts and flogged me silly. I saw the Lion biting me and at a
point, I knew I needed to fight back. I started hitting the Lion.
“Are you hitting me? You don’t hit your mother back” I heard the Lion saying.
24

The scenario of the room changed, I saw myself in a forest. It looked like one
of the cartoons I watched on T.V. I was a baby Lion, a cub in a forest being
chased by a fierce-looking Lion. The cub decided not to run anymore, it faced
its mother and started biting the mother lion violently, to the point of
scratching her, but when the cub saw blood on his mother’s mouth, he
stopped. The mother and child bond did the magic. He looked into her eyes
and had compassion on him…
*****
(FROM ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
I saw a different Pemisire, he became very wild and launched at me. He
attacked me fiercely like I was a demon sent to attack him. His high level of
self-defence was second to none. His bones became like strong metal. He
fought against me till he punched me on my lips.
It felt like a veil was taken off Pemisire’s face, as he looked closely at me and
he realized it was me, he said…
“Mama”
“Mama”… I guess when he saw the blood on my lips, he knew he had done
something wrong. He moved closer to me with the most compassionate eyes
ever, but I no longer saw him as my son. I was scared of him and thought
there was something really fearful about him…

Though he was my son, from that day I started believing what other people
believed. I started thinking I had given birth to a demon. I bought the lie that
Pemisire was a punishment.
Few months after Pemisire’s public show, I met a friend who made me see
things differently...
He was the carpenter beside the house I was living. What attracted me to him
was the fact that he was doing the same business as my husband. I saw a bit
of my husband in him and that endeared me to him.
“Yes, Adio!”
“Pemisire’s case is beyond the ordinary. I can see the hands of the witches in
his matter. This boy can be fine if you seek traditional help.” Adio said
“We all serve the same god, we just have different ways of Approaching Him.
Even the Bible says Satan still attends meeting in Heaven, so he still has
access to God, so sometimes he can take your prayers too” Adio said
“Adio, Satan can never take your prayers to God, the meeting you are talking
about that he attended in heaven, he wasn’t taking the side of Job, he was
even speaking against Job. It was obvious by his words that he goes to
humans to touch them negatively. He has no good intentions for humans. He
must have tried hurting Job before, but the edge of the Lord was around him.
Yes, I don’t deny the fact that the devil may have certain powers as a fallen
angel because the gift of God is without repentance. He still has the powers
he had as an angel, but one thing I know for sure, there is an enmity between
man and the devil. He has always hated mankind, therefore even if he is
offering a stretching hand of help, you should know it will come with
thorns...” I said emphatically but Adio found a way of encouraging me in a
different direction
“What about visiting one of these prophets?” He said “They can chase out
the deformed spirit out of him”
Adio wouldn’t let me be for two months straight until a day came when he
deceived us into going there...

“This child is demon-possessed, he was sent to destroy your life. Aunty, Let
me tell you this, You have a glorious destiny, but the devil doesn’t want you
to fulfil that destiny, so he sent you a demon in form of a child to waste your
time and energy.” The Priest at the Church told my mother as I sat close to
my mother.
I wondered what he was talking about. How was I sent to destroy my mother?
At that age, I could understand that my mother meant a lot to me, so it didn’t
make sense to me, that I would want to destroy her...
“By this time, you should have started counting your millions, but this thing
sends away the angels of prosperity from you.” The priest said emphatically
“I don’t know how you will go about it, but the child has to be far from you...
Send him to the village to go stay with any of your relatives or dump him
somewhere.” The priest said
I saw the look in my mother’s eyes, she looked confused. I believe she was
torn between a mother’s love and the desire to have a good life.
I didn’t have the opportunity to say a word... but the Priest told my mother
“We need to take him through a deliverance session so that whatever he has
deposited in your life, the evil Spirit in Him can take it away from your life.”

The priest advised my mother and there was no doubt that she had bought
into it.
My mother was told to go home and come back for me in three days. She was
told the three days would give her enough time to know where to take me to.
I wept seriously when my mother was leaving, it felt like she was deserting
me. And the environment changed as usual, as Mama was leaving and some
of the pastors of the church were coming to me, I saw things differently.
I saw a Lioness leaving her cub behind, and big Black foxes came out in mass
against her cub.
Her cub watched how the lioness walked away defeatedly unlike her proud
strut, looking behind occasionally with tears in her eyes...
As the black foxes were coming closer to the cub, the cub cried with his eyes
looking into his Mama’s eye as she looked back...
“Mama... Mama...” but the Lioness looked away and moved on.
The black foxes closed up on the little cub and the pain the black foxes
inflicted on the cub was second to none...

“Slash! Slash!” Was the sound of the whip on my body. I looked at the pastors
who were abusing me with the brooms they held; they were so zealous about
it.
On the other side of my vision, my eyes saw the foxes approaching the lion
cub, they all stood on their hind feet fighting the Lion cub.
I felt the pain the Lion Cub was going through, and out of the blues, I felt I
needed to fight the foxes...I knew my bones instantly felt like iron and with
mad anger I fought against the devilish pastors. About 8 of them were on the
floor by the time I was through with them.
“It is the demon In him that is giving him that strength,” Said one of the
amazed pastors...
The torture continued... At some point, my hands were tied at my back and
the torture I went through brought blood out of my body...I became more
erratic splashing more saliva and I am sure from the point of view of whoever
that was watching, they would have concluded that I was really an erratic
imbecile as seen, of which unfortunately I wasn’t, I could only see what they
could not see.
Would anyone keep still when foxes were attacking him or her...?
(ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
Every step I took away from Pemisire tore at my heart, but I had to make a
decision. I needed my life back... I kept assuring myself that in three days I
would see Pemisire and hopefully they would have cast the demon out of him.

Adio who had brought me to the Church had left us the moment we got there
so I was returning home alone...
In the public bus that I boarded, a woman sat behind me and I heard the way
she spoke with her son who was around 22 years of age. She was speaking to
him like he was a child… I turned back on several occasions because the
young man looked physically alright but the words that came out of his
mouth was like the words of a 2-year-old child...
“Mummy, why does the man have a blue shirt on?” He asked
“Why blue? He should have chosen red as his best colour because it is
bright…”
“Ok, but I cannot remember when you told me that. Was it when I was a
baby?”
I wanted to laugh at that childish talk. He was still a child in an adult’s body,
but I found it appalling because I felt his mother must have over-pampered
him to the point of not reasoning by himself.
I must have looked back like 15 times before the woman finally said...

“Yes!”
“Where is he?”
“Ok? For what precisely?” She asked with the voice of scepticism
“For him to become a normal human being, although the story is more
complicated,” I said further, hoping the woman could also bring her child to
the church for deliverance.
“Case?”
“Diagnosed? I don’t get, He is not sick, he just looks strange and sometimes
acts strange. I was told a demon lives in him...

The woman I later discovered was Mrs Ayomide followed me back to the
church and on getting there, I went numb at what I saw...
My son! My only son, Pemisire had been tied up, bound with a very tight
rope. Pemisire had been battered, he had several wounds all over his body, I
saw the brooms on the floor which obviously was the cause of the torture
marks on his body.
I expected Pemisire to look away from me and hate me for what I made him
go through but instead, he still longed for me in love... that broke me... the
unconditional love in his eyes haunted me...
“What happened to him?” Mrs Ayo’s eyes popped out... Her son hid behind
her like a child, because Pemisire’s sight was horrible.
“Don’t go near him, the demons are still under the torture of the angels.” The
Head pastor said and the Lion in me came out...

mother Lioness returning with a bigger Lioness behind her. The Bigger
Lioness had a small cub walking by her.

When my Lioness saw my cub as battered as I was, tears dropped from the
Lioness’ face. The cub was happy his Mama had come back for him. He was
happy the Lioness was around to save him from the foxes.
“Don’t go near him, the demons are still under the torture of the angels” The
Head Fox Said and that stopped the Lioness in her tracks. The Lioness turned
towards the fox, she landed on him slapping him with her paws and with her
teeth she tore his flesh. The head fox kept screaming for help and though
other foxes came to his rescue, the fury of the Lion and what she was capable
of doing made them have a rethink of touching her. The Lioness choked him
till he started vomiting blood. At that point, the new Lioness that came with
my Mother walked towards her and with her right paw, she tapped my
mother Lioness on her shoulder telling her killing the head Fox wasn’t worth
it.
The Bigger Lioness reached out to me and with her big mouth, she carried
me. At first, I cringed away from her but I looked into her eyes and I saw the

Mrs Ayo took us to her house and all I did was shed tears. Guilt wouldn’t
make me touch Pemisire. The wounds all over his body were tearing at my
heart. All I kept uttering was...
“I am sorry...”

Mrs Ayo cleaned his wounds and was applying first aid. Her 22-year-old son
who was behaving like a 2-year-old boy was the one helping with picking up
things she needed...
I knew we had to talk and I could tell it would be a talk on how much of a
terrible mother I was.

I saw the guilt in my mother’s eyes and though I was in pain I wanted to wrap
my hands around her and be in her embrace the way the lion cub does with
his Lioness Mother but Mama stood far away from me...
The Bigger Lioness looked at my Mother Lioness and shook her head...
“ This is how special they are, they don’t keep grudges, they love you even
when you love them less...I hope you don’t lose what you have before you
realize how precious they are...” She said
“Was this God’s work?” She asked but Mother looked like she wasn’t sure of
the answer to give.

“Take a seat,” Mrs Ayomide said. “I believe our meeting today was not a
mistake but ordained by God. I feel in this case I am like Elizabeth in the
scripture who was already far gone in her pregnancy. When the Angel told
Mary about Elizabeth being pregnant, Mary had to go to her place and live
there for three months, I believe that period was a learning period for Mary.
I have passed through this road you are on and I am willing to help you...
Abigail, Special children become who they are because of different reasons.
It was in my quest of finding a solution to my son’s challenge that I came
across a scripture that will answer your question ...” Mrs Ayomide said as she
walked towards the bookshelf to pick her up her Bible.
“For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who
have been made eunuchs by others--and there are those who choose to live
like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept
this should accept it. Matthew 19:12” Mrs Ayomide read out...
I wondered what eunuchs had to do with me, I was not a castrated male,
neither was Pemisire one.
The case of most special people is like of Eunuchs, they are imperfect and if
we check that scripture, it states that there are three types of eunuchs... Can
you tell me the types...?” MRS Ayomide lectured on

“Great, so bringing this home my dear... there are Special kids who were born

way he was... “
“No, he was made this way by humans, which is the second point I was going
to...” Mrs Ayomide was saying

“We can’t talk about that now it’s a lengthy story, why don’t you have a little
rest, we will continue this talk much later. Pemisire needs you by his side, he
will need your succour after so much pain he has been through!” Mrs
Ayomide said
At the time we were discussing, Pemisire had fallen asleep. Mrs Ayomide
took me to the visitor’s room. I laid Pemisire on the bed and though I was as
exhausted as a well-ridden horse, I couldn’t force my eyes shut, I wondered
why a woman would say she was the source of her son’s ineffectuality. I kept
counting the ceiling boxes. I just didn’t understand what she meant by that.
I thought of a million reasons as to why she would say that. While I was at it,
I slept off.
“Abigail!” He called
“Yes, Father!”
I raced towards him in joy. I wondered what my father wanted to give me.
42

He took me by the hand and showed me three clay pots turned upside down.
I looked at the three pots and I tried hard to find out the one I was going to
pick. The first pot looked so beautiful, it had been decorated with chalk
artistry. The second pot was plain. Whereas the third pot looked deformed
and unappealing. Some parts of it were broken...
I did a little back-and-forth several times and I decided that my Father would
put my gift under the most beautiful pot. I knew my Father was a
perfectionist, so the third pot was definitely not his thing. I moved to the first
pot but quickly cast a glance at my father looking for answers on his face, but
he kept a straight face.
“Yes!”
Father lifted the first pot and there laid a pretty little box. I jumped in
excitement... I was so right. I knew my father so well...
I took the gift and gave my father a big hug...He smiled and said...
“Well, the other pots had gifts as well, let’s check them out!”

Father lifted the second pot, it was the plain one. The gift was much bigger
than the gift I had won from the pretty pot.

I almost collapsed.... Five different gifts were hidden under the deformed
pot...

“I.. am sorry Ma..ma... I wi..Sh I wassss a fine b...o..y” Pemisire said with

I paused in disbelief that my son knew what his problem was and then the
dream came back to my memory...
“Pemisire, you are perfect just the way you are, God hid his best treasure in
an unlikely vessel... God created you this way because he didn’t want people
to know and steal the greatness you carried... Jesus had to be born in a

I thought you were God’s mistake but now I know God hid a gem in a
deformed body... Come over here...” I said, I was bubbling with excitement.
Mrs Ayomide had told me to find out Why God made my son the way he was
and even without me praying about it, I had seen the vision...
I helped Pemisire to the standing mirror in the room and I corrected my first
error...
“Pemisire... this body, this face, this look does not describe you, this is just

“No Pemisire, don’t compare yourself with them, you look handsome in your
own way, because you are unique.” I said...
“You are special, You are Unique, You are God’s special design and I count it
a great privilege to be your mother... Pemisire you are not God’s mistake, You
are God’s masterpiece, You are God’s mystery hidden in an unlikely body...
Now let’s play a game...” I said intending to replicate the pot vision in a way
he could understand what God had revealed to me but surprisingly
Pemisire’s eyes lit up...
“Mama... game... me.... like... Victor...Me ... game... like Emeka...” he kept
saying “Me” like he never saw himself like a human who could play games.
Tears flowed down my eyes, I was also to be blamed because for almost 6
years of Pemisire’s life I never played with him, I never had fun with him, I
pitied him rather than love or befriend him...
Mrs Ayomide must have heard his voice, she rushed into the room, and when
she saw the way he was jumping up and down in excitement she said..,
“He is happy I told him I wanted to play a game with him... and that would
be the first time everrrrrr....” I broke down in tears as I said those words...

my son to open his eyes and pick the one with the house key. Pemisire giggled
with joy. He went around the shoe and finally, he picked the worse looking
shoe...
“You can teach him Ludo..” MRS Ayomide said... Ludo was a game in which
players move counters round a board according to throws of a dice. I felt it
was too complex for him.

After the first round of Ludo, Pemisire indicated he wanted to play the game.
“Pemisire, relax... you should study how the game works a few more times,”
I said
Pemisire shook his head in the negative. Ordinarily, I would have shouted at
him and be very assertive about him doing exactly what I wanted him to do,

We had so much fun within the two days. It was the happiest I ever saw my

I got into the place I got to understand was called a “ Classroom”. I saw a lot

1-10 were hung on the wall on different coloured cut out cardboards.
I loved only one colour, White, though I didn’t hate the other colors but I
couldn’t deal with the multiple colors flashing at me.
“ Hey, boy... you are not a baby and don’t expect me to be like your mother

Reciting numbers 1-10 was not a big deal for me, because despite not

I didn’t want to raise my head. The colored flashing lights would get into my
eyes..

willed but listen I won’t be sacked because of you. You will leave my class...”
I saw the dog charging towards me with a long stick. Fear gripped my heart
and as a way of defending myself I ran out of the class crying...
The teacher instead of coming after me, dashed off to the Headmistress’s
office... The headmistress came out and saw me standing under the tree that

That caught my attention, that was the fourth time he wanted to sleep before

need to see a doctor...” the headmistress had said to me
“ Emm... academically he is not doing well. You know in this school we don’t
grade students with positions, but if we did David would probably take the
last position in class”
“ That means the school is not doing its job, I am sorry to say...”
“ Madam, before calling you I have done several things to help your son. All
his teachers have been complaining about him, and as a way of finding out
the problem, I asked a friend who is a psychologist to please come to evaluate
your son. I wanted to know if there was a way of imparting knowledge into
him...”

I left her office very angry. I took my son away from that school. My son was
very active when it came to playing, he was also fluent in speaking so I
wondered what they meant by my son needed help...
The new school was more expensive and in two weeks I had been
summoned... The headmistress also expressed her concern about him having
learning disabilities. She asked if they could carry out a test on him. I agreed
and when I was told the result of the evaluation I almost passed out...

“Madam, your son has a learning disability called dyslexia and he shows
signs of ADHD!” The proprietress said to me
“ADHD? What is that? I have heard about dyslexia though I don’t know much
about it. But what is ADHD?”
“It is a disorder that includes difficulty staying focused and paying attention,
difficulty controlling behaviour and hyperactivity. Although ADHD is not
considered a learning disability, research indicates that a large percentage of
children with ADHD also have a specific learning disability and that the two
conditions can interact to make learning extremely challenging, which is
where dyslexia comes in. Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects reading
and related language-based processing skills. The severity can differ in each
individual but can affect reading fluency, decoding, reading comprehension,
recall, writing, spelling, and sometimes speech. However, in David’s case, he
talks but if you pay attention and spend time with him, you will realize he
talks lower than his age.” The proprietress had said
“Abigail, my life crashed. My husband and I had agreed that we only wanted
a child, so we could give him the best life. I wept profusely in front of the
proprietress. I asked questions as to why me?”
“Are you different from the women who have these type of Children. I don’t
know what caused this in your child, but whatever this child turns out to be
in future lies in your hands...”

“For you not to have discovered this in your child very early, it shows that
you have not been very observant.”
“My son was not born with this disability. In fact when he was around 10
months, while I was on leave, he had started identifying alphabets.”
“ Who taught him the alphabets at that time?” The proprietress asked
“ Myself...”
“ So what happened?”
“ Yes, ma... “
“ My goodness, this is going to be the 5th case that can be traced to Sunshine
crèche... The school is owned by “ schoolpreneurs”, where everything starts
and ends with money.” The proprietress said...
*************
“ Abigail, I got to know that the crèche added sleeping syrup into the meals
of the children, and all the children would sleep all day. Therefore, whenever
the children returned home they were always hyperactive. Abigail, my son
lived on sleeping syrup daily for 6 months. The sleeping syrup had
overwhelmed his brain. He became physically overactive but mentally
drained...

I watched Mrs Ayomide in amazement, she was right about her being the
cause of her son’s ineffectuality. However, you couldn’t blame her in totality.
She had her own life to live...
“Ma, stop crying, don’t blame yourself. You had your life to live, you had to
face your career as well. You had to pay the bills...” I said in a bid to encourage
her but Mrs Ayomide cut in...
“Exactly where I missed it... Listen Abigail, there are children whom the Lord
may demand certain sacrifices from you as a way of nurturing them for His
great Work. You may have to lose your career, family for a while so that you
can train that Child in the way the Lord wants..”
“God interrupted the plans of Mary and Joseph in the Bible when He gave
them Jesus. Do you know how they must have felt? If it had happened in this
time, and you were Mary, won’t you have second thoughts about it? Won’t
you at times ask yourself, “Is this Child really from God?”. Then to make
matters worse after having the baby, God tells you to relocate to Egypt
because of the safety of the child...”
“ Hmmm...”

not even the biological father. He also had to relocate to Egypt, where they
knew “no one”. I am sure Joseph might have had a rough start telling people
he was a carpenter that could be trusted... All these just to keep a Strange
child safe.”
Mrs Ayomide didn’t have to say much any longer. I understood what she
wanted of me. She wanted me to take Pemisire as God’s project in my hand.
I would have to make certain sacrifices by getting a job that would make me
stay closer to him...
“ No... Not unless you want to homeschool him. You can take him to the
Special school David attends, but it is really expensive.” Mrs Ayomide
replied..
“ The exact amount you pay for your one year rent is the tuition fee for one

what her teacher was doing with my son. The headmistress crosschecked his
books and saw the game the teacher was trying to play...
“ Mrs Arole, this is not the heart of a good teacher, you don’t help a student

The problem was the same, the multiple flashing lights... I wanted to raise

flashing and disturbing my brain. I started raising my hands to block the ray
of light from the coloured cardboards...
Miss Sandra walked to the light switch and turned off the light... Surprisingly
the flashing lights reduced, but there were still a few lights ... the other
children looked surprised at the light going off...
“ Small!”
Miss Sandra went to the window blind and closed the window... Finally! The
lights disappeared...

On getting home that day I chatted off in excitement... but all Mama wanted
to hear about was what I had learnt that day. She wanted to know if I had
learnt to write any number or alphabet. She wasn’t interested in the story
about Albert and Miss Sandra finding a solution to the flashing lights. When
I noticed, I kept quiet about it and focused on pleasing her in my academics...
Miss Sandra was a gift to me, we used very low lighting in my class, so I could
learn.
I made a few friends...John, Albert, Sade and Beatrice. Beatrice was the one
who sat next to me in class. She was particularly nice to me. She did one of
the nicest things ever to me...
“ My mummy sells them, I asked my mummy to give me some for you, so you
can clean your mouth with it anytime you have saliva on your mouth.. My
mummy uses it for my baby brother too...” Beatrice had said
“ Thank you!” those little handkerchiefs became a forever treasure for me.
I had already learnt how to write 1-4 in 3 weeks and I was improving by the
day.
One day, a stranger came into the class with Miss Sandra. He was a dark
looking masculine creature. Miss Sandra was not her usual and happy self.

She gave all of us classwork that would last the whole day. The masculine
creature kept caressing her hair as she cried...
When it was lunchtime and everyone had gone to the playground, I walked
to Miss Sandra’s table where she laid her head...
She looked up and jumped back in fear obviously because of my scary face,
but she quickly recovered..
“ Aww, Pemisire thank you, I am fine, I am just a bit down. I will be better
soon..”
“Is it because of the dirtyyyyy man?” I said referring to the man standing by
her who was looking at me madly...
“ I am not your wife ... Shut up... I said stop saying that!” Miss Sandra replied
“Pemisire, you can see him?” Miss Sandra asked and I nodded in the positive

am not a witch, this evil thing is destroying me...”
“ Shame on you Sandra, you are sending a little boy against me” he laughed
with his annoying robotic voice.
Then the room was filled with bright Light that wasn’t disturbing my eyes. It
was my lightning friends who cheered me up during my Ludo game that were
around..
“He just called you a little boy, remember the Bible story your mama taught
you about the little boy and Goliath. What did the little boy use against the
big Goliath?”
“ Stones”
“ How many ?”
“ Five”
“ You need Five stones ? For what” Miss Sandra said as she saw the way I was
looking

“ Yes, Five Stones” Miss Sandra rushed out and brought the stones...

David said “I come against you in the name of the Lord.”

“ I come against you in the name of the Lord,” I said and I threw the first

Miss Sandra could not control her tears, I saw the joy on her face. She hugged
me so tightly....
“Thank you, Thank you Pemisire... I knew there was something about you..”
“ Yes, something very odd “ said the only girl who didn’t like me in Class. She
must have walked in on us unnoticed.
Miss Sandra didn’t see her for who she was, so she dismissed her...
“Becca, you can stay outside till lunch break is over. I need some time with
Pemisire.” She said and Becca opened her mouth. What followed was an
arrow. I held the arrow before it could hit Mrs Sandra.

the one who spoke because Miss Sandra said...
“ Pemisire, I think you have gotten your miracle, you are talking fluently”
There was an immediate look of disappointment on her face and I was also
disappointed. I wished I could continue speaking fluently like other kids...
“ Regardless of what you look like, that’s not who you are, you are what is on
the inside. Today you were my prophet, my agent of deliverance so anytime
anyone wants to define you, remember what God has done through you
today. PEMISIRE, you are a Special Child.

Miss Sandra was always kind and calm towards me. No more flashing lights
because everyone became used to the dimly lit class...
“🎶Good Morning Ma, we are happy to have you. God bless you ma’am🎶”
I heard the Usual rhyme whenever the Headmistress or the visitors came into
the class. I was with Miss Sandra, it was a free period, she was showing me
the picture of her Fiance who broke his engagement with her. She was
sharing her testimony with me that he called back apologizing, saying it was
the devil’s work. Indeed it was the devil’s work. After the dirty Spirit had left,
the Fiance must have seen clearly.
“Good Morning Pupils!” The headmistress said... She was followed closely by
Becca’s mother.

mother spoke up
“No..ma’am, the kids are fine with it...They all agreed to help Pemisire” Miss
Sandra said
“My daughter is not fine with it, she can’t see under low light,” Becca’s mum
said
“She never told me that, I could have found a better seat for her..”
“Miss Sandra, Becca tells me you Favour the deformed boy more than other
students. Is there a reason why?” Becca’s mum asked
“Well, since what my daughter told me about the poor lighting is correct, if
there cannot be bright Light in her classroom by tomorrow because of one
student I would enrol her in another school. I can’t have my daughter
straining her eyes in class.” Becca’s mum strutted out, but as she was about
to leave. I saw her for what she was. She was a giant Vulture. At that age, I
didn’t know the difference in birds, I thought they were all big birds, but
growing up I realized the different kinds of birds and what they stood for.
Hawks like Becca are people who advocates aggressive in a warlike manner
against the carriers of Light. While her mother who was a vulture was one of
those who live to feast on sick or dying people.

Mama withdrew me from the School and just like she told Miss Sandra, She
started homeschooling me. However, the time table was different. Due to the
peak period of her beancake sale, we usually go out in the morning to sell her
beancake and return home by 2 pm. I started school from 3 pm till 8 pm,
Mondays to Friday. Miss Sandra became a very close Family Friend. She gave
mother the scheme of Work I needed for that academic session. She bought
me Special books that were for the Special needs kids. The books could not
be bought in any of the bookstores, but she used her position as a teacher to
get them for me. She Spent Saturday mostly in our house, as a way of helping
in areas Mama may not have done it right. Sometimes, she was the one who
stayed with me at home, whenever Mama had a party to attend on Saturdays.
Mrs Ayomide also gave Mother some of the old books David used from the
Special School. She also got the scheme of Work of the Special needs school
for my Mother. Mrs Ayomide surprised Mama, with a Laptop and an android
Phone.
“ You will need this to surf the internet for materials to help you homeschool
Pemisire.” Mrs Ayomide had told Mama on giving her the gift.
Mother made Learning fun for me. I learnt from basically everything around
me. I learnt mathematics from helping her at her beancake spot. I was in
charge of keeping her money. So I learnt addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division through money.

I had asked her once
“ Whoever does not want Pemisire, can not have Pemisire’s mother’s
beancake....” she said smiling
People bought the lie, but mother never gave up. I saw her tenacity and I
learnt from it. Some days she would only sell few pieces and by the next day
she would reheat the ones left from the previous day.
The day everything changed started like a normal day. We usually got to the
spot very early...
We sat waiting for the few customers to buy, just then I heard my name very

On looking up, it was Beatrice calling me. There was thick traffic that
morning, a tanker loaded with fuel had fallen to its side, and the fuel was

When Mother saw the scenario, she started frying more beancakes. As a

Her parents must have asked her if she knew me and she told them yes. She
told them she wanted to say hi to me. Her parents let her down and Beatrice
ran towards me with so much excitement hugging me tightly.
My excitement took the best of me... I started weeping and Beatrice was
weeping as well. Everyone at the bus stop including my mother, her business
rivals, those who had despised me couldn’t help but stare at us. A lot of

I felt my prayers had been answered. I got home and started worshipping
God. I was glad He became my husband even when my husband deserted

I put a call through to my Earthly Father. Ever since I got the phone I spoke
to my father frequently. That helped me grow more Spiritually, in fact, days
before the miraculous happening, my father and I had prayed for 2 hours
over the phone at midnight thanks to the free calls given by the
telecommunication company.
One of the prophecies, my father had declared was that in God raising
Pemisire, he would raise me, but I must be ready to raise Pemisire well...
With the excitement that God was already raising Pemisire, I put a call
through...
“ Hmmm... that looks like the hand of God, but is it time for that now?” My
Father replied
“ I don’t know if this Word is meant for you, this morning I kept hearing in
my Spirit “Elizabeth hid herself for 6 months”, that is Elizabeth nurtured and
hid the baby John for six months of conception. Abigail, I will suggest you
still work on Pemisire for a little more time before you return him to school.
Nurture him well, input what you want him to have, if possible homeschool
him for the 6 years of his primary education...”

I know you want your life back and pursue your dream of becoming a lawyer,
but relax and show God that you are faithful in the little he has placed in your

I wept after that heart to heart discussion with my father. I knelt before God
and I cried to the Almighty God...
“ Father, I don’t know why of all people you would give me a son like
Pemisire. I have prayed and checked within myself. I didn’t live a sinful life
while growing up, I got married as a virgin, but yet I thought I will live a
better life. My husband left me because of this child. Lord, I am about to serve
you by raising Pemisire the best I can, Lord do not let my efforts be a waste.
Bring something great out of Pemisire. Let his name reflect in his life. Let
Him be called for great things.
Today, I commit myself to serve you through this child, I know at some point
I thought he was your creation mistake but now I know he is a deliberate

PÈMÍSÍRE”

(ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
Just like my Father and Mrs Ayomide advised, I sat with my precious Special
Child. I nursed Him into greatness...
Special Children come in Unlikely Vessels. If you are not careful you may
judge them by the shortcomings you see and that blocks you from harvesting
the treasure in them...
Jesus was born in a manger, it wasn’t a noble birth. His birth disrupted his
parents’ plans. His father could not make love to His mother during the 9
months pregnancy. His entrance into their relationship came with its
sacrifice, but at the end, he became the Saviour of the world. If he had been
born in a fancy hospital, Herod would have found him out very quickly.
After I discovered Pemisire had the gift of prophecy and Healing, I made my
home His Bible College. I groomed him in the Lord. Academically, I did my
best at his pace.
During one of our Bible Study sessions, he said a word to me that changed
my life...

“ Mama... even Moses was a stammerer like me, God uses imperfect things
to do Perfect things.” Pemisire had said
Miss Sandra got married and she made Pemisire her best boy. The scenario
brought tears out of her eyes. She insisted on sharing the testimony of how
Pemisire was the one the Lord used for her...
Gbenga rededicated his life to Christ, when he saw amazing things God did
through his Son’s life. In no time he had opened a Furniture business,
through the help of Albert’s Father. Albert’s Father was into importing
furniture. Albert had hinted his father that Pemisire’s dad was a carpenter.
Afterwards, they got talking and the rest they say is history.
Well, I thought I was doing Pemisire a Favour by training Him for those six
years not knowing I was training myself. I came up with my own curriculum
for him, sports he could play, games that could improve his mental faculty,
Ethics and moral classes... He attended excursions with the students from
the regular schools. That way he mixed with other students. I organized
parties for.
Little did I know that Pemisire would become a proof of what a Special Needs
Child can achieve...

He came out the First position three times in a row, at the African
Mathematics Competition.

PEMISIRE turns 30 this year and it is with great pleasure I write this part of
his life story I can tell...
Through Him the Lord raised me up, I became a name in the educational
sector. PEMISIRE INTERNATIONAL MODEL SCHOOL caters for both the
regular students and the special kids ( who I refer to as the ABNORMAL-
ABOVE NORMAL KIDS).
I learnt that lesson from Mrs Ayomide. The scripture she shared about the
Eunuchs who were born like that, or Eunuch made by man and Eunuch made
by self...
2)Did he become that way because of human influences, which could vary
from physical or Spiritual. There were Special kids who were dull or the way
they were because they were bewitched or cursed. I had to help them
Spiritually.

The result from the evaluation gives My school the ability to train the
children in their own unique ways and thereafter give birth to great
Champions like Pemisire...

(PEMISIRE’S ANGLE)
I have achieved a lot of Sucess by the age of 30, but the second greatest
achievement yet to be accomplished is the one I look forward to on my
birthday. I will be marrying my best friend...
Beatrice Ogar...
Through the help of her Parents, I went through Secondary school and
University. Together we went through school, and sometimes though I tell
her she is a gift to me, she would reply instead with a smile....
“ You rather are the gift, God packaged my gift in a Special Vessel so that
other ladies would be too blind to see the treasure.”

Be the Judge....
To all those who have lived their lives thinking they are God’s Creation
Mistake, be it physically disabled, deaf, dumb, Obese, blind( Incase this is an
audio version you are listening to) or do you have a learning disability, know
that you are God’s Special creature in an Unlikely vessel. When the world
sees what comes out from you, the “ Wow” that pops out of their mouth is a
way of them giving Glory to God....

When Jesus did extraordinary things, it was said concerning Jesus “Can
anything good come from Nazareth?”
This means Where Jesus came from had been written off, therefore if you
have been written off, Follow Christ and see how God will make your hidden
treasures manifest.
Shalom
