PART 1
“PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
Pemisire is the name...Yes! That is my name, this might be the first time
you may have ever heard the name because it's not one of those names you
hear on the Street, every now and then... Pemisire literally means "To be
called for good things, or to be beckoned on for good things..." The literal
translation is this;

PÈ = call
MÍ = me
SÍRE = to goodness

I heard my father who was a carpenter was at his workshop when he was
called upon that my mother had given birth to me". On hanging up, it
seemed like my coming to planet earth was an opening of the windows of
Heaven for him...Almost immediately, his phone was on fire, different calls
from clients who had forgotten him, new clients who wanted him to work
for them, debtors who felt the urgent need to pay him back his
money.....and the icing on top of his cake…he received a call from the
Embassy to come and pick up his Visa... That was how I got my name, my
father said, my birth brought about him being called for good and great
things, hence I was a carrier of goodness...

But...

PART 2
“PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde

But.....

Something was wrong with the carrier of goodness... I wasn't complete...

My mother had me at a small hospital, the room was a dark room dimly lit
by a small lantern, as the community had not had electricity supply for 2
years and using the generator was a luxury the small clinic could not afford...

The moment I was birthed by my mother, the electricity supply that had been
an issue for two years suddenly resurfaced...

The hospital staff couldn’t contain their joy, the country was in its hot season
and they were always sweating profusely. My mother told me the general
talk in the hospital was that I was a special child who had brought light back
to our community...The hospital staff gave me a name immediately "Imole"
(Light).

All these and more were great signs of how special a child people thought I
was, but barely two months after my birth the story changed...

I started drooling excessively, my eyeballs danced a lot. My mother told me

that at times it looked like I had crossed eyes, other times, it looked like my
eyeballs were upside down...

As I grew, I had the challenge of sitting still, my neck was tilted to one side,
and my face structure wasn’t like the regular...

At the time, My mother was working as a secretary at a small law firm but
my coming to her life took that job from her... No Daycare centre was ready
to accept such a child, also she couldn't leave me with my father who was not
happy with the child she had given birth to...

My mother had narrated some of her ordeals to me...

"Gbenga, please I need you to help me watch over Pemisire during my

working hours, as no daycare centre is ready to accept him"

"Watch him where?" he asked with irritation

"At your carpentry workshop of course" My mother had said...

"So that his mere sight will send away all my clients"

"But he is your son!”

"This thing is not my son, Only God knows where you got this abami
(mysterious creature) from...."

"My son is not an abami, my son is a gift from God…"

"Then go and give that child to God to keep for you while you are at work,
Nonsense!" Mother said Father had stormed out after saying this...

My parent's marriage suffered a great deal as there was no more cordial

relationship between them anymore...I became a curse to my mother...

8
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

My mother needed to find a way to survive, while taking care of a child

everyone avoided. She had become jobless and my father wasn’t ready to
spend his money on her or the abomination she called a child.

PART 3
“PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
My father stopped providing for my mother’s needs...Her in-laws made
things worse by saying my mother was possessed and that was the reason she
gave birth to a "Mysterious looking child"... My mother told me that by the
time I was eight months, she had grown so lean she knew she needed help. I
was a handful and with no financial support, life was becoming unbearable
for her.
After much thoughts, she went to my grandfather who was a pastor. *****
Baba mii (My father), why did God decide to punish me by giving me a child
like this? I got married as a virgin, I was never promiscuous. You taught me
the ways of God and I followed that way, so why would God give me an
imbecile as a child?” My mother lamented " Stop it, my grandson is not an
imbecile, but a special child who is hidden under the shadow of the Almighty,
because of the magnitude of great destiny he carries...When the right time
comes for him, He will manifest" My grandfather had said

My mother said she thought to herself what could ever come out of an
imbecile child... "Baba mii, Look at him, at eight months, he looks like a 2
months old baby, Baba mii, my life is at a standstill, my marriage is suffering,
my husband now has several girlfriends, he no longer gives me money...he.."
"Abigail, is money your problem? If that is your problem, I am ready to stand
by you till Pemisire fulfils the great purpose God has for him. God doesn't
make mistakes...Pemisire was created for a purpose". My mother told me my
grandfather was her rock. With those encouraging words, my mother
returned to her husband's house only to find an empty house... My father had
travelled to the United Kingdom.

PART 4
“PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi O. Akintunde

My mother's life turned upside down, no husband, no money, no confidant

as most of her friends stylishly stopped befriending her. They were of the
opinion that she was under God's curse.

My Mother had to look for a way out of her lack. She did all sorts of menial
jobs but they never lasted because of me. My sight was always a put-off...

She said there was a time, she worked at a food canteen and days after she
started working there, the patronage of the canteen dropped drastically. The
Owner of the canteen made her findings and she realized that people could
not eat where an imbecile child was. My mother was fired because of me.

‘Rejection’ was my first name and that forced my mother to relocate.

On getting to the new vicinity, she came up with a way out of the lack. She
started frying beancake at a major bus stop. However, to avoid buyers from
seeing me, she would lock me up in the house for the hours she was out
selling.

This was how she continued for 5 years, locking me up in the house every day
for 3 hours. She said the neighbours knew she had a child in the house but
no one was willing to have me in their houses as my face was scary.

Whenever my mother brought me out during the day to play and I wanted to
play football with the other kids, they would run back indoors...

I wanted to play like them, I never knew why they didn't want to play with
me...I would always smile, despite I was drooling, but they never smiled back.
11
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

My words were not coherent, but my mother understood my eyes even

without me saying a word.

I managed to ask her once, why the other children never wanted to play with
me and without replying me, she went out...

She returned with a big mirror. She placed it right in front of me and for the
first time ever I saw my image and...
I saw who I was.....a piece of garbage, God’s creation mistake...When God
was creating me He probably made a mistake and instead of trashing me, he
gave me to the poor woman who I had become a misery to.

I wept...

“PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I must say, that step my mother took must have been the greatest mistake
she made with me. Before this, I thought I was a regular child, but with the
mirror experience, I realized I looked like a monster...

Several things followed this... I recoiled, I never spoke again, I never smiled
again, I never wanted to play again, I wanted to stay indoors all through
until my grandpa came visiting again...

" Great Pemisire, the great deliverer of our time, a mighty man of valour,
Wisest among men, Fearfully and wonderfully made by God to confuse the
enemies, the one specially created by the ABBA Father... "My grandpa was
my only friend, he made me smile, he always tickled me, and he bought me
a pack of cartoon character handkerchiefs... Those were the days of
Spiderman... He told to always wipe my mouth, he said it in a way that didn't
make my drooling a bad thing...

" Pemisire, you need to learn to wipe your drool, do you know I also sweat
a lot, sometimes I sweat so much it looks like someone poured a bucket of
water on me, and I have to carry 5 handkerchiefs with me everywhere I go
everyday... So everyone has their peculiar issues, you just need to learn how
to manage it... "

Grandpa stayed with me for three days and those were one of my happiest
days on earth, but before he left, he sat my mother down and told her I
needed to go to school... He promised to take full responsibility for my
education... Grandpa also spoke to me at length...

"Great Pemisire, education is very important. I want you to go to school, I

want you to put on school uniform like other kids... I am sure you want it?”

13
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“No! I don’t want to.... be in school” I said, although deep down I wanted to.
My neighbours had a lesson teacher who came around to teach them every
evening and from my window, I watched them. From there, I learnt the
Alphabets, so going to school would have been great news for me but...

But I was scared of the looks I would get. The few times I had gone out of our
house had always been a heartbreaking Experience. I didn’t give grandpa an
outright. No! I went mute.

*****
“My name is Abigail, by the time you will be reading this, I Probably may not
be alive... Pemisire insisted I write some chapters in his book.

Pemisire is my only child, but the only child with a BIG CLAUSE...He was
not the regular child, he was the child you couldn’t take out to the park with
you, a child that made heads turn, not in a good way but with the look of
despair, disgust, fear and ultimately hatred...

Sometimes, the thought of strangulating him or suffocating him crossed my

mind, Would you blame me?... I know a lot of people would say, how can a
mother think of such concerning her child but listen, this is the child who
took away everything from me, he took away my marriage, my friends, my
career and my time which is my life...I lost my fashion sense because of this
boy, days passed me by and I didn’t care...

My mother had married another man at my young age, so the only person I
had left was my father, my only ray of hope...He would tell me God told him,
Pemisire was going to be great...but it didn't make sense, a child who looked
like a mysterious creature...

His name Pemisire did not reflect one bit in his life, I had the feeling he was
Pemisiibanuje (Called for sorrow).

15

I obeyed my father and took Pemisire to school...I cannot tell who was more
scared, Pemisire ( the deformed looking child of mine) or I ( the mother of
the abominable child). From the neighbours to the bike man who was to pick
us from the house, I could tell Pemisire and I were in for real trouble...

“Madam, I am sorry I can’t pick you and your son... I am sorry, please look
for another bike man...” said the bike man...

PART 7
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi O. Akintunde

The bike man left with no pity on his face. We stood for another 15 minutes
with no bike man stopping for Pemisire and I. Ordinarily, I would have been
discouraged by the looks I was getting and would have retreated to the house,
but I had this unusual strength from within...

“Pemisire, we will get to school today! You will be educated whether the devil
likes it or not”. I took my scarf and wrapped it around Pemisire’s large head
to avoid people seeing his weird head.

A tricycle stopped beside us and I mentioned the name of the school we were
headed. Obviously, the driver and the two other passengers did not see
Pemisire’s features properly, so they were not bothered.

As we journeyed in the Tricycle, Pemisire started acting strangely. He started

hitting the driver’s head in anger...

“Eleda Mii (my creator) “I screamed.

The driver also screamed and became unstable. Pemisire’s act was sudden.
The driver started swerving as Pemisire kept hitting the man’s head
continuously...

The driver managed to pull up and he jumped out of the vehicle, Likewise
other passengers...

I broke into tears...By this time the scarf had gone off Pemisire’s Head. The
driver and the other passengers stood outside the tricycle calling out other
passersby...
17

“Omo Abirun Lon gbami Lori“(An abominable child was hitting my head in
the vehicle) said the driver

“Omo Esu ni, O FE pa wa je” (He is the child of the devil, he wants to kill us
and make a meal out of us) said the first passenger...

The second passenger kept rolling on the floor and screaming...

“No wonder, my priest said I should not go out throughout this week, but
because I wanted to get drugs for my daughter I disobeyed today... My God,
is this how this mysterious being would have killed me today.” Said the
second passenger.

I stayed in the tricycle not wanting to come out, it was going to be a walk of
shame. Pemisire was not helping matters either... he was throwing tantrums
because he couldn’t reach the driver... He wanted desperately to reach the
driver...

“Stop it Pemisire!” I cried “Please!” I begged

“Get out of my tricycle, “the driver said in Yoruba language...

“Madam get out...!” Everyone kept saying...

With pains and tears to God, I covered Pemisire’s Head with the scarf and
got down. I pulled him forcefully as he didn’t want to get down from the
vehicle...

“Noo...ooo” He slurred angrily splashing his saliva all over the place...

PÈMÍSÍRE”

With pains and tears to God, I covered Pemisire’s Head with the scarf and
got down. I pulled him forcefully as he didn’t want to get down from the
vehicle...

“Noo...ooo” He slurred angrily splashing his saliva all over the place...

“Please! Please Pemisire!” I pleaded with my tears pouring ceaselessly...

At that point, he looked me in the eye and saw my tears. Some unspoken
words were said between us through our eyes. I could read him saying...

“I am sorry mummy, I never meant to disgrace you, but there is something

about that man...” I could read those words in his eyes as he looked towards
where the driver was.

I believe Pemisire must have chosen my happiness over whatever was going
on between him and the driver as he willingly alighted from the tricycle and
followed me...

I saw people spitting in disgust, some covering their faces like my child was
something horrific.

I took the walk of shame as I earlier imagined. I wrapped his head properly
with the scarf with the intention of returning home but it seemed Pemisire
was in my head and he didn’t like what I was thinking. He tapped me and
shook his head in the negative...
“No... oooo...S.c.h...ooo...llll” He slurred

20

I thought he meant “No school” so I said...

“Yes! No school... I understand... things will be worse in a school setting. I

will teach you from home!” I said

“No... I....g..o tooooo S..c...hoool” Pemisire insisted and he would not let me
pull him towards home.

We had become the center of focus. I was confused and I felt like I was going
to pass out with the different echoes of terrible words

“The mother is probably a witch and has eaten the brain of the child!”

“When She was pregnant, She must have walked under the scorching hot sun
and the evil spirits chased out the real baby and replaced the baby.”

“Or she must have offended some witches when she was pregnant!”

“No! These kind of Children come from God to punish a woman who has
offended Him...”

The words kept pouring out of people’s mouth in different dimensions. The
different school of thoughts of why I had a deformed-looking child was
tearing at my heart and the last I remembered was looking straight into
Pemisire’s eyes and blanking out.

However, even in my unconscious state, my hand found a way of holding

onto him...God had given me this child and I wasn’t going to let go of him...

PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde

I could hear Pemisire’s incoherent voice calling me, but my Spirit was
drifting away.

****
(Pemisire’s P.O.V)
I watched mama drop on the floor. I lost interest in what was happening to
the driver. My Mama was on the floor, but my terrible look kept people away.

I looked around, instinct told me the passersby ought to come to help my

mother but no, everyone stood far away, except a local trader who was selling
oranges. He was coming towards my mother when someone pulled him back
pointing at me...

I sensed I was the obstacle to my mother. So I knew what I had to do…

I wobbled away from my mother although she held on tight onto me. As I
noticed I was far away from her, I beckoned on them to help her.

They got my message and people moved towards her pouring water on her...

Mama snapped out of her unconsciousness...and I promised myself never to

act the way I did with the driver again.

People donated money for my mother out of pity but no one came close to
me. The zeal for school left me and we returned home.

“Pemisire, tell me why you decided to disgrace me in public?” My mother
asked me “Listen to me, you are not an imbecile, I will not treat you like one
and you Pemisire will not act like one. The next time you try that again, I will
beat you blue black” Mama said and I saw a lion coming out of Mama... The
lion wanted to bite me. I ran and sat in a corner...I shivered in tears...

“Mama… p...l..ea...s..e” I cried, but she kept charging towards me. I didn’t see
Mama again, I was seeing a fierce Lion... I knew I needed to run...I started
throwing tantrums.

“Ma..Ma... Wh..e..rrrreee a..rrrre yo.u?” (Mama where are you)

I could see my excess drooling....

“Grandpa wouldn’t want me drooling...?” I thought as I kept crying and

screaming...

How come I had been seeing strange things all day? That was not my first
time of seeing things my Mama said she didn’t see... but that day was
different, I was seeing strange fearful things. First I had seen that the driver
had a lot of ants on his head, and out of being helpful, I was hitting his head
and Secondly mama had suddenly turned to a Lion...

What was happening?

PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi .O. Akintunde

(FROM ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)

I had never seen my son that fearful before. Pemisire looked like he had seen
a ghost. The motherly instinct in me kicked in.

I moved closer to him in pity and I saw him recoil.

“Pemisire, I am sorry...I just got angry...you know how difficult things have
been, and what you did today was strange, I saw a new you. You hardly throw
tantrums, so you hitting a stranger’s head was uncalled for. Did you think
that was fun? No! That was not fun. If the world sees you as an imbecile, don’t
act like one. Pemisire, you have more work to do. If other normal children do
what you did today, the driver might have just smiled at the child or worse
scolded him a little, but you are different... You are ABNORMAL…which
means ABOVE NORMAL. Pemisire, you are above Normal, God raised the
bar when creating you that is why people see you differently. You are a higher
Spec, and that places a high responsibility on you, you shouldn’t play childish
games. You can play with me, but not playing rough with strangers. Do you
get me?” I said with a loud voice trying to charge him up

*****
(FROM PEMISIRE’S ANGLE)
I didn’t hear anything she said…. To me it was a Lion roaring at me, and all I
did was cry profusely to the point of urinating on myself. Mama saw my urine
on the floor and that made her crazier. She went into the room and brought
out one of my belts and flogged me silly. I saw the Lion biting me and at a
point, I knew I needed to fight back. I started hitting the Lion.

“Are you hitting me? You don’t hit your mother back” I heard the Lion saying.

24
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

The scenario of the room changed, I saw myself in a forest. It looked like one
of the cartoons I watched on T.V. I was a baby Lion, a cub in a forest being
chased by a fierce-looking Lion. The cub decided not to run anymore, it faced
its mother and started biting the mother lion violently, to the point of
scratching her, but when the cub saw blood on his mother’s mouth, he
stopped. The mother and child bond did the magic. He looked into her eyes
and had compassion on him…

“Mama!’ the cub said with the regret in his eyes

*****
(FROM ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
I saw a different Pemisire, he became very wild and launched at me. He
attacked me fiercely like I was a demon sent to attack him. His high level of
self-defence was second to none. His bones became like strong metal. He
fought against me till he punched me on my lips.

“My mouth!” I said as I touched my lips

“Pemisire!” I screamed as I moved back in fear…

It felt like a veil was taken off Pemisire’s face, as he looked closely at me and
he realized it was me, he said…

“Mama”

“Mama”… I guess when he saw the blood on my lips, he knew he had done
something wrong. He moved closer to me with the most compassionate eyes
ever, but I no longer saw him as my son. I was scared of him and thought
there was something really fearful about him…

25

“Mama, Mama” his tears rolled down as he reached out for me and out of
fear I moved away…

PART 11
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde

Though he was my son, from that day I started believing what other people
believed. I started thinking I had given birth to a demon. I bought the lie that
Pemisire was a punishment.

Few months after Pemisire’s public show, I met a friend who made me see
things differently...

He was the carpenter beside the house I was living. What attracted me to him
was the fact that he was doing the same business as my husband. I saw a bit
of my husband in him and that endeared me to him.

Pemisire wasn’t so much of a bother to him as he told me to drop off Pemisire

with him, most times on my way out.

“Pemisire’s Mum” That was Adio’s way of calling me.

“Yes, Adio!”

“Pemisire’s case is beyond the ordinary. I can see the hands of the witches in
his matter. This boy can be fine if you seek traditional help.” Adio said

“Traditional help? Like Herbalist traditional help?” I questioned out of

utmost surprise. My father raised me in the way of the Lord and traditional
help had been presented to me as an evil way.

“Yes!” Adio answered...

I refused his offer stating the fact that I was a Christian and could not go to
the devil for help.

“We all serve the same god, we just have different ways of Approaching Him.
Even the Bible says Satan still attends meeting in Heaven, so he still has
access to God, so sometimes he can take your prayers too” Adio said

“Adio, Satan can never take your prayers to God, the meeting you are talking
about that he attended in heaven, he wasn’t taking the side of Job, he was
even speaking against Job. It was obvious by his words that he goes to
humans to touch them negatively. He has no good intentions for humans. He
must have tried hurting Job before, but the edge of the Lord was around him.
Yes, I don’t deny the fact that the devil may have certain powers as a fallen
angel because the gift of God is without repentance. He still has the powers
he had as an angel, but one thing I know for sure, there is an enmity between
man and the devil. He has always hated mankind, therefore even if he is
offering a stretching hand of help, you should know it will come with
thorns...” I said emphatically but Adio found a way of encouraging me in a
different direction

“What about visiting one of these prophets?” He said “They can chase out
the deformed spirit out of him”

Adio wouldn’t let me be for two months straight until a day came when he
deceived us into going there...

Adio told me he wanted to take us to a party but shockingly we found

ourselves in a strange church...

PART 12
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi O.Akintunde

“This child is demon-possessed, he was sent to destroy your life. Aunty, Let
me tell you this, You have a glorious destiny, but the devil doesn’t want you
to fulfil that destiny, so he sent you a demon in form of a child to waste your
time and energy.” The Priest at the Church told my mother as I sat close to
my mother.

I wondered what he was talking about. How was I sent to destroy my mother?
At that age, I could understand that my mother meant a lot to me, so it didn’t
make sense to me, that I would want to destroy her...

“By this time, you should have started counting your millions, but this thing
sends away the angels of prosperity from you.” The priest said emphatically

“So what do you suggest I do?” My mother asked

“I don’t know how you will go about it, but the child has to be far from you...
Send him to the village to go stay with any of your relatives or dump him
somewhere.” The priest said

I saw the look in my mother’s eyes, she looked confused. I believe she was
torn between a mother’s love and the desire to have a good life.

I didn’t have the opportunity to say a word... but the Priest told my mother

“We need to take him through a deliverance session so that whatever he has
deposited in your life, the evil Spirit in Him can take it away from your life.”

29
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

The priest advised my mother and there was no doubt that she had bought
into it.

My mother was told to go home and come back for me in three days. She was
told the three days would give her enough time to know where to take me to.

I wept seriously when my mother was leaving, it felt like she was deserting
me. And the environment changed as usual, as Mama was leaving and some
of the pastors of the church were coming to me, I saw things differently.

I saw a Lioness leaving her cub behind, and big Black foxes came out in mass
against her cub.

Her cub watched how the lioness walked away defeatedly unlike her proud
strut, looking behind occasionally with tears in her eyes...

As the black foxes were coming closer to the cub, the cub cried with his eyes
looking into his Mama’s eye as she looked back...

“Mama... Mama...” but the Lioness looked away and moved on.

The black foxes closed up on the little cub and the pain the black foxes
inflicted on the cub was second to none...

PÈMÍSÍRE”

“Slash! Slash!” Was the sound of the whip on my body. I looked at the pastors
who were abusing me with the brooms they held; they were so zealous about
it.

On the other side of my vision, my eyes saw the foxes approaching the lion
cub, they all stood on their hind feet fighting the Lion cub.

I felt the pain the Lion Cub was going through, and out of the blues, I felt I
needed to fight the foxes...I knew my bones instantly felt like iron and with
mad anger I fought against the devilish pastors. About 8 of them were on the
floor by the time I was through with them.

“It is the demon In him that is giving him that strength,” Said one of the
amazed pastors...

The torture continued... At some point, my hands were tied at my back and
the torture I went through brought blood out of my body...I became more
erratic splashing more saliva and I am sure from the point of view of whoever
that was watching, they would have concluded that I was really an erratic
imbecile as seen, of which unfortunately I wasn’t, I could only see what they
could not see.

Would anyone keep still when foxes were attacking him or her...?

(ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
Every step I took away from Pemisire tore at my heart, but I had to make a
decision. I needed my life back... I kept assuring myself that in three days I
would see Pemisire and hopefully they would have cast the demon out of him.

Adio who had brought me to the Church had left us the moment we got there
so I was returning home alone...

In the public bus that I boarded, a woman sat behind me and I heard the way
she spoke with her son who was around 22 years of age. She was speaking to
him like he was a child… I turned back on several occasions because the
young man looked physically alright but the words that came out of his
mouth was like the words of a 2-year-old child...

“Mummy, why does the man have a blue shirt on?” He asked

“Maybe Blue is his favorite color!”

“Why blue? He should have chosen red as his best colour because it is
bright…”

“Well, remember I have told you, Life is a Choice... “

“Ok, but I cannot remember when you told me that. Was it when I was a
baby?”

I wanted to laugh at that childish talk. He was still a child in an adult’s body,
but I found it appalling because I felt his mother must have over-pampered
him to the point of not reasoning by himself.

I must have looked back like 15 times before the woman finally said...

“He is a Special child” the mother defended.

32
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“Oh, I am sorry, I didn’t mean to pry, it’s just that I have a different kind of
special Child” I said trying to be nice

“Really?” She asked with a bright look of interest.

“Yes!”

“Where is he?”

“He is undergoing deliverance at a church!” I said with excitement mixed

with hope. I said hoping if Pemisire was delivered, I could recommend the
place to the woman.

“Ok? For what precisely?” She asked with the voice of scepticism

“For him to become a normal human being, although the story is more
complicated,” I said further, hoping the woman could also bring her child to
the church for deliverance.

“What is his case?”

“Case?”

“Challenge? Like what has he been diagnosed of?”

“Diagnosed? I don’t get, He is not sick, he just looks strange and sometimes
acts strange. I was told a demon lives in him...

33
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“What?” The woman looked at me very bewildered and the only thing she
said was...

“Take me to where your child is ?” and with the tone she used, Abigail knew
she shouldn’t say no...

PART 14
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde

The woman I later discovered was Mrs Ayomide followed me back to the
church and on getting there, I went numb at what I saw...

My son! My only son, Pemisire had been tied up, bound with a very tight
rope. Pemisire had been battered, he had several wounds all over his body, I
saw the brooms on the floor which obviously was the cause of the torture
marks on his body.

I expected Pemisire to look away from me and hate me for what I made him
go through but instead, he still longed for me in love... that broke me... the
unconditional love in his eyes haunted me...

“What happened to him?” Mrs Ayo’s eyes popped out... Her son hid behind
her like a child, because Pemisire’s sight was horrible.

I gathered the necessary momentum to walk up to my child, the pastors were

shocked to see I was back. The head pastor quickly rushed towards me...

“Don’t go near him, the demons are still under the torture of the angels.” The
Head pastor said and the Lion in me came out...

****
(PEMISIRE’S ANGLE)
My entire body was on fire, I couldn’t tell where I was feeling pain because
my entire body was in pain! As I sat bound on the floor crying, I saw the
mother Lioness returning with a bigger Lioness behind her. The Bigger
Lioness had a small cub walking by her.

35
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

When my Lioness saw my cub as battered as I was, tears dropped from the
Lioness’ face. The cub was happy his Mama had come back for him. He was
happy the Lioness was around to save him from the foxes.

“Don’t go near him, the demons are still under the torture of the angels” The
Head Fox Said and that stopped the Lioness in her tracks. The Lioness turned
towards the fox, she landed on him slapping him with her paws and with her
teeth she tore his flesh. The head fox kept screaming for help and though
other foxes came to his rescue, the fury of the Lion and what she was capable
of doing made them have a rethink of touching her. The Lioness choked him
till he started vomiting blood. At that point, the new Lioness that came with
my Mother walked towards her and with her right paw, she tapped my
mother Lioness on her shoulder telling her killing the head Fox wasn’t worth
it.

The Bigger Lioness reached out to me and with her big mouth, she carried
me. At first, I cringed away from her but I looked into her eyes and I saw the
Look I always saw in my mother’s eye...

The Look of Love and assurance...

******
(ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
Mrs Ayo took us to her house and all I did was shed tears. Guilt wouldn’t
make me touch Pemisire. The wounds all over his body were tearing at my
heart. All I kept uttering was...

“I am sorry...”

36
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

Mrs Ayo cleaned his wounds and was applying first aid. Her 22-year-old son
who was behaving like a 2-year-old boy was the one helping with picking up
things she needed...

“We need to talk...!” Mrs Ayo said as she cleaned Pemisire...

I knew we had to talk and I could tell it would be a talk on how much of a
terrible mother I was.

*****
(PRMISIRE’S ANGLE)
I saw the guilt in my mother’s eyes and though I was in pain I wanted to wrap
my hands around her and be in her embrace the way the lion cub does with
his Lioness Mother but Mama stood far away from me...

“Mama.. Ma..ma... co..m.e” I slurred

The Bigger Lioness looked at my Mother Lioness and shook her head...

“ This is how special they are, they don’t keep grudges, they love you even
when you love them less...I hope you don’t lose what you have before you
realize how precious they are...” She said

“I know He is Special, but why would God make him disfigured? “

“Was this God’s work?” She asked but Mother looked like she wasn’t sure of
the answer to give.

37
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“Bible says, every good and perfect gift comes from Above, but though
Pemisire is a good boy, he is not Perfect!” My mother said breaking into a
loud cry birthed out of frustration.

PART 15
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde

“Take a seat,” Mrs Ayomide said. “I believe our meeting today was not a
mistake but ordained by God. I feel in this case I am like Elizabeth in the
scripture who was already far gone in her pregnancy. When the Angel told
Mary about Elizabeth being pregnant, Mary had to go to her place and live
there for three months, I believe that period was a learning period for Mary.
I have passed through this road you are on and I am willing to help you...

Abigail, Special children become who they are because of different reasons.
It was in my quest of finding a solution to my son’s challenge that I came
across a scripture that will answer your question ...” Mrs Ayomide said as she
walked towards the bookshelf to pick her up her Bible.

“For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who
have been made eunuchs by others--and there are those who choose to live
like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept
this should accept it. Matthew 19:12” Mrs Ayomide read out...

I wondered what eunuchs had to do with me, I was not a castrated male,
neither was Pemisire one.

“I know you are confused as to where this is headed. A Eunuch is someone

who has been castrated and cannot produce forth. In essence, you can say
the person is ineffectual

The case of most special people is like of Eunuchs, they are imperfect and if
we check that scripture, it states that there are three types of eunuchs... Can
you tell me the types...?” MRS Ayomide lectured on

39
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“Firstly, The ones that were born that way!” I said

“Secondly?” She asked

“The ones made eunuchs by men!”

“Thirdly?”

“The ones who decide to be eunuchs for the work of God”

“Great, so bringing this home my dear... there are Special kids who were born
that way and that can be attributed to two different sources...”

“God or the devil…” I said getting her point...

“Yes... So it is your duty as a mother to know why your child was born the
way he was... “

“Was your son born that way?” I asked

“No, he was made this way by humans, which is the second point I was going
to...” Mrs Ayomide was saying

“What happened to him?”

Mrs Ayomide looked away and with regrets she said...

40
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“I made him this way...”

I knew my eyes must have popped...

“What? I mean how? and why?”

“Which mother would do this to her child?” I reasoned within, though my

heart was racing in fear...

PÈMÍSÍRE”

“We can’t talk about that now it’s a lengthy story, why don’t you have a little
rest, we will continue this talk much later. Pemisire needs you by his side, he
will need your succour after so much pain he has been through!” Mrs
Ayomide said

At the time we were discussing, Pemisire had fallen asleep. Mrs Ayomide
took me to the visitor’s room. I laid Pemisire on the bed and though I was as
exhausted as a well-ridden horse, I couldn’t force my eyes shut, I wondered
why a woman would say she was the source of her son’s ineffectuality. I kept
counting the ceiling boxes. I just didn’t understand what she meant by that.

I thought of a million reasons as to why she would say that. While I was at it,
I slept off.

Then I saw a vision...

I found myself in my hometown, in particular my parent’s compound. I saw

my Father beckoning on me...

“Abigail!” He called

“Yes, Father!”

“I have a gift for you.” He said smiling

I raced towards him in joy. I wondered what my father wanted to give me.

42
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

He took me by the hand and showed me three clay pots turned upside down.

“Abigail, your gift is under one of these pots, choose one”

I looked at the three pots and I tried hard to find out the one I was going to
pick. The first pot looked so beautiful, it had been decorated with chalk
artistry. The second pot was plain. Whereas the third pot looked deformed
and unappealing. Some parts of it were broken...

I did a little back-and-forth several times and I decided that my Father would
put my gift under the most beautiful pot. I knew my Father was a
perfectionist, so the third pot was definitely not his thing. I moved to the first
pot but quickly cast a glance at my father looking for answers on his face, but
he kept a straight face.

“Father, I choose the first pot,” I said

“Are you sure?”

“Yes!”

Father lifted the first pot and there laid a pretty little box. I jumped in
excitement... I was so right. I knew my father so well...

I took the gift and gave my father a big hug...He smiled and said...

“Well, the other pots had gifts as well, let’s check them out!”

43
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“Really?” I said

Father lifted the second pot, it was the plain one. The gift was much bigger
than the gift I had won from the pretty pot.

When Father lifted the third pot that was ugly looking, deformed and broken,
I almost collapsed.... Five different gifts were hidden under the deformed
pot...

I looked at father disappointed at my vanity, but Father raised my chin up

and with a great smile he said...

“I hide my best treasures in unlikely vessels!”

PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi O. Akintunde

“I hide my best treasures in unlikely vessels” I kept hearing the echo of those
words as I felt Pemisire tapping me from sleep...

“Mama...Pee...pee...” Pemisire said...

From sleep, I wondered why He was calling me as regards using the

restroom. I had trained him on helping himself...

“Pemisire. That is the restroom” I said pointing to the visible toilet

“Mama... pa..in, mmyyy bod...y is pain” Pemisire slurred and instant

understanding hit me. He was having body pains. I wished I had killed the
fake pastor who made my son go through pain...

“I am sorry Pemisire, I am sorry I let you go through the torture you went
through..”

“I.. am sorry Ma..ma... I wi..Sh I wassss a fine b...o..y” Pemisire said with
tears flowing down his face...

I paused in disbelief that my son knew what his problem was and then the
dream came back to my memory...

“Pemisire, you are perfect just the way you are, God hid his best treasure in
an unlikely vessel... God created you this way because he didn’t want people
to know and steal the greatness you carried... Jesus had to be born in a

45

manger so Herod wouldn’t find him and kill him. If Jesus had been born in
the hospital, Herod could have found out the location. Pemisire, in the past
I thought you were God’s mistake but now I know God hid a gem in a
deformed body... Come over here...” I said, I was bubbling with excitement.
Mrs Ayomide had told me to find out Why God made my son the way he was
and even without me praying about it, I had seen the vision...

I helped Pemisire to the standing mirror in the room and I corrected my first
error...

“Pemisire... this body, this face, this look does not describe you, this is just
an ordinary container, Pemisire is the boy on the inside, You are a fine
handsome boy...”

*******

As mama was saying those words... A transformation was going on in the

mirror I was staring at. I saw the deformed looking baby cub. As the Lioness
stood behind him and was charging the baby cub, the baby cub began to see
a different Him, the deformity disappeared, the baby cub saw a handsome
looking cub and for the first time, the baby cub smiled...

“I a..am.... a F..ine boy Mama” I said with confidence and excitement as tears
rolled down my face

“Yes you are...”

*****

“Pemisire..is a.. Fine ..boy..like Victor...Like... Joshua.. Like Seun, Like

Emeka...” I heard Pemisire say in excitement about himself.

46
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

That was shocking.. Pemisire was mentioning the names of the children of
our neighbours. I never would have thought he knew their names and to
think that he wanted to look like them pierced my heart...

“No Pemisire, don’t compare yourself with them, you look handsome in your
own way, because you are unique.” I said...

“You are special, You are Unique, You are God’s special design and I count it
a great privilege to be your mother... Pemisire you are not God’s mistake, You
are God’s masterpiece, You are God’s mystery hidden in an unlikely body...
Now let’s play a game...” I said intending to replicate the pot vision in a way
he could understand what God had revealed to me but surprisingly
Pemisire’s eyes lit up...

“Mama... game... me.... like... Victor...Me ... game... like Emeka...” he kept
saying “Me” like he never saw himself like a human who could play games.
Tears flowed down my eyes, I was also to be blamed because for almost 6
years of Pemisire’s life I never played with him, I never had fun with him, I
pitied him rather than love or befriend him...

I watched as he jumped despite the body pain... He was shouting in

excitement though in a slurry way and saliva was splattering everywhere... I
saw Pemisire happiness for the first time and I saw him for who he really
was...

“He was a human too, regardless of how he looked!”

Mrs Ayomide must have heard his voice, she rushed into the room, and when
she saw the way he was jumping up and down in excitement she said..,

“He is happy...Why? He prefers this place?”

47

I picked up three shoes from the visitor’s room, and I asked my son to close
his eyes. I hid our house key under the worse looking shoe. Afterwards, I told
my son to open his eyes and pick the one with the house key. Pemisire giggled
with joy. He went around the shoe and finally, he picked the worse looking
shoe...

I asked him why and he replied...

“G...o..d hides... treasu...re in UN...likely vesse...lllllsssss” He slurred and I

froze. How did he get that! I had only told him that quote just a few minutes
earlier and instantly he understood. Mrs Ayomide was shocked likewise.
Pemisire kept his smile...

“Mama... g..ameeee” Pemisire slurred

I really didn’t have any game to play with him.

“You can teach him Ludo..” MRS Ayomide said... Ludo was a game in which
players move counters round a board according to throws of a dice. I felt it
was too complex for him.

“You might be surprised!” It seemed Mrs Ayomide noticed my reservation...

MRS Ayomide didn’t wait for my approval, she brought the game out and
said...

“Pemisire I know you will like this game, David likes it as well. You only have
to watch and learn...” Mrs Ayomide said excitedly

Mrs Ayomide called on her son and together they played Ludo. Pemisire
watched with utmost attention as he bounced continuously on the chair. He
was tapping his fingers on his right leg as well. Silently I observed wondering
what he was up to...

After the first round of Ludo, Pemisire indicated he wanted to play the game.

“Pemisire, relax... you should study how the game works a few more times,”
I said

Pemisire shook his head in the negative. Ordinarily, I would have shouted at
him and be very assertive about him doing exactly what I wanted him to do,
but I decided to exercise a bit of patience with him...

Pemisire beat Mrs Ayomide, David and I, three times each. I watched in
amazement the wonder child who looked like a rotten deformed yam.

At that point I knew, PEMISIRE had to go to School....

But little did I know that not all trees could grow on mountains...

I got easily distracted, so as Mama talked about me becoming tall, I forgot

about my Lightning friends and I asked her how tall I was going to be..

On getting home, Mama sat me down and gave me a long lecture...

“ Pemisire, the past two days have been the best time of my life. I never knew
you are this smart...” Mama said smiling... I wanted that smile permanently
on her face...

“That has given me the confidence that you can make it in school.” Mother
said proudly

“ S..c...hoooo...l?” I asked very excitedly

“ Yes! But...” Mama said

“ Bu...t... no Troubleee” I said

******
( ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)

“ Bu...t... no Troubleee” Pemisire had said. That amazed me as well... He was

fast at understanding what I was probably trying to drive home...

The next day, Pemisire woke up very early. Ready to go to school...

I was excited as well. I played one of the old classics Pemisire loved to hum
to and we danced together...

My joy knew no bounds...because the boy I thought could not amount to

anything was probably the smartest boy ever... If only the world knew What
God had revealed to me...

On our way to the school, I cared less about who was watching, the
confidence God had given me had my shoulders squared. My son kept
watching me, I noticed he watched me in amazement and whenever our eyes
met, he gave me a smile that melted my heart...

No vehicle or bike stopped for my son and I because of Pemisire’s Look, so I

told him excitedly...

“ Pemisire, would you like to walk down to school and see the beautiful sights
of the town!”

Oh! The Joy and Lack of Shame I felt that morning was the happiest I had
felt in a lonnnnnngggggg time...

“ Ye...ssss Mam..aaaa” he said very excitedly and I felt a bit of guilt for how I
have denied my son the right to walk on the road for 6 years because of the
condemning look from people...

“ Ta lo ni Omo Abirun yiii” ( Who owns this mysterious looking child). A local
trader shouted in shock on seeing Pemisire as we walked by her ... People
were running into their houses and shops at the sight of my precious son...

The euphoria of Joy I was still in, made me burst out...

“ He is mine, Omo mi ni ( He is my Child) My gift from God, My beloved Son,

The mystery of God) ...

I literally could hear the echo of my voice on the noisy road that had suddenly
become quiet...

I spoke about my son and everyone had to listen. They were not the one to
dictate who my son was, I was the mother, the one to tell them who my son
was... His name from that day became...

PÈMÍSÍRE”

Mama must have shut everyone’s mouth with her loud proclamation because
no one uttered a statement.

Mama held my hand and we proceeded. Though I was young, something

strong registered on the inside of me...

“ I HAD A PERSON WHO CARED FOR ME”

We got to the school and right from the gate, it was obvious education was
going to be an uphill task. From the gateman who refused to open the gate at
first, to the Headmistress who needed to call the proprietress to find out if
they could accept Me, I could see the red flags ...

Eventually, the Headmistress said...

“ Can he read and write?”

“ No... He has never been to school”

“ Ok, that means he has to start from Kindergarten” She replied

“ Ok!” Mother said...

The woman passed the kindergarten bill to My mother. I saw how she
swallowed hard.

55

“ Is this the lowest tuition fee?” My mother asked

“ Yes... we don’t negotiate tuition fee ma... Ma in case you don’t think you will
be able to pay his fees, you can take him to another school..” The
headmistress said obviously looking for the best opportunity to discourage
my mother...

“ It’s fine, I will pay... When can he start?”

“ As soon as you pay...!”

“ I am ready to pay.”

“ Now?”

“ Yes...”

“ Ok... come with me to the Bursary.”

As we walked to the Bursary, the stares became more intense... I received

more attention than a celebrity.

“ Mama, ... ever..yyyone... likeeee me.” I said

“ Yes... because you are special.” My mother replied

56

After all payments had been made, I was taken to the Kindergarten class. I
looked around and I noticed I was the oldest. I knew something was instantly
wrong, so I told my mother...

“ Mama... W..rrong place, I s...t..ayyyy where Emeka issss” I said to my

mother as I had seen Emeka, my neighbour in one of the classes...

My mother smiled as she bent down to speak to me..

“ Pemisire, Emeka started from this class too, so because you are just starting
you have to start from this place...”

“ No... Mama...”

******
( ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)

Pemisire had been placed in the class of kids between the ages of 2&3 years
old. His brilliant mind must have realized that he was way older than
everyone... I thought of what I could do... An idea dropped in my heart.
Though I was tired I needed Pemisire to understand my point...

“ Game...?” I asked Pemisire

I saw his face brightened...

He must have thought I was referring to the Ludo...

57
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“ Pemisire it is called “ Race game”. You and I are to run and I want to see
who can be the fastest...” I said and Pemisire looked excited.

I told the teacher to give us few minutes...

I took my son out to the school field and everyone kept watching us...

I placed Pemisire far ahead almost close to the finish line and I went back to
the start line...

“ Once I say go, you run your best to the finish line. Make sure I don’t catch
up with you!” I said to him

“ Go!” I said and Pemisire ran off...

I started running, I knew my goal. As rigid as my body felt I ran my best till
I outran Pemisire... On getting the finish line I came out first very
exhausted... I wanted to crash on the floor out of pain and exhaustion but I
knew I needed to pass a message across really fast...

“ Pemisire, in the race of life. It doesn’t matter if people start earlier than you,
what matters is the effort you put into what you do. With great effort and
determination, you can outrun even someone who has gone far ahead of
you...”. I said and My greatest joy was the fact that my son understood what
I was trying to say because he looked up at me and said...

“ Mama....I will stilllll o..utrun... Emeka”. ( I will still Outrun Emeka). He said
with very teary eyes... Why he was teary, I couldn’t tell...

PART 21
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde

I got into the place I got to understand was called a “ Classroom”. I saw a lot
of colors on the wall. I didn’t like the multiple colors flashing at me. Numbers
1-10 were hung on the wall on different coloured cut out cardboards.

I loved only one colour, White, though I didn’t hate the other colors but I
couldn’t deal with the multiple colors flashing at me.

I bowed my head to avoid the flashing lights...

“ Hey, boy... you are not a baby and don’t expect me to be like your mother
who has to run round the school in the name of making you happy... You are
not a god that I have to worship... God! What kind of nonsense is this? Why
will they bring this monster to my class.. to think that I have been praying
for a child, will this “ebora” (strange being) not be used by the devil against
me...” the teacher said loudly

The scenario changed: the world appeared to me in the best way I

understood...

My teacher became a fierce looking dog barking at me...

“Recite 1-10” She barked at the little lion cub I was.

Reciting numbers 1-10 was not a big deal for me, because despite not
attending school, I always paid attention to Emeka’s lesson teacher...
I knew it was , “ won, tu, tri, for, fife, sis, sefun, hate, nin, ten..”.

60
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

That was the recitation I had memorized from eavesdropping.

If my “dog” teacher was not barking, maybe I might have impressed her with
my recitation but her bark made whatever I knew in my head to disappear.

“ Simple 1-10, you don’t know... raise your head, when I am talking to you”

I didn’t want to raise my head. The colored flashing lights would get into my
eyes..

“ I knew it... I knew strange beings like you are always disobedient, strong
willed but listen I won’t be sacked because of you. You will leave my class...”

I saw the dog charging towards me with a long stick. Fear gripped my heart
and as a way of defending myself I ran out of the class crying...

The teacher instead of coming after me, dashed off to the Headmistress’s
office... The headmistress came out and saw me standing under the tree that
sat in the middle of school... The headmistress approached me... As she
walked towards me, I saw who she was; a BIG Elephant. As she walked
towards me, I felt the shaking of the earth under us...

“ Hey... What is wrong?”

PÈMÍSÍRE”

( ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)

I didn’t feel as happy as I thought I would be. Sitting at the bus stop where I
fried my bean cake, my mind kept travelling towards Pemisire..

“ Pemisire is fine! Abigail calm down. God is with him” I tried as much as
possible to calm myself down

Suddenly, like someone under a very strong influence, I jumped up and

packed all the beancakes I had fried for sale. I closed for the day. I needed to
be with Pemisire immediately.

***************
“ What is wrong?” The elephant asked the Baby cub.

The baby cub didn’t know if she would understand his slurry baby language.
How was he going to explain that the teacher was barking at him. In other to
avoid problems, he kept quiet...

“ Can’t you talk? I thought your mother said you could talk... So answer me.
What is wrong? Why did you run out of class...” The headmistress’
elephantine voice was blaring loud in my ears.

The loud voices of both she and my class teacher ; that is the barking of a dog
and the trumpeting of the elephant was about to squeeze life out of me. I
started breathing hard, it felt like I was under water. I felt like they were

62

burying my head underwater. I felt like I was going to die any minute. I
started behaving very erratic which was a response of me trying to find air...

“What is happening here?” I heard Mama’s voice. I saw my mother Lioness

growl at them...

*************
(ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)

“ Oh madam, nothing ... Your son ran out of the classroom to stay here, so I
had to call the headmistress to come speak with him” The teacher said to me.

“ Speak with Him or shout on him!” I replied

“Madam, no way, why would we shout on a new student, especially someone

like him!” The headmistress said trying to defend she and her staff

“ Someone like Him?” I asked with a stern face

“ Em... I mean ...” the headmistress stuttered

“ Headmistress, will my son be judged and maltreated in the school because

of his look?” I asked firmly

“ No madam... as long as he cooperates with us, he may turn out our best
student ever...” the headmistress said hypocritically

“ Exactly, But I also need to say that you all need to cooperate with him, I
believe he won’t be the first child who runs out of class on the first day of
63
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

School. As good educators, I should not be teaching you that Most children
do not cope easily with a change of environment and new faces. I believe a
well read and trained teacher has to look for ways to make such a child relax
and adapt to the new faces and environment. “ I said authoritatively as I
needed to let them know my son was not someone they were going to trample
underfoot.

“Unless your school is not capable of handling different types of students. If

that is the case, I won’t hesitate to withdraw my son and go to the media to
ask people to recommend good schools that have better and well-trained
teachers unlike your school” I threatened

“ Madammmmm! That won’t be necessary...Our school is very capable, we

will bring out the best in your son.. Give us the benefit of doubt. Mrs Arole
will take care of Him better” the headmistress said quickly as she understood
what bad publicity could do to their school.

****************
(PEMISIRE’S ANGLE)

“ Pemisire darling... I am sorry if I was harsh on you... come over... You like
to play games, games you will play” Said the teacher

I didn’t know whether to believe her but something was sure...

As young as I was I understood that My mother was a gift to me. God had
sent her ahead as a waymaker for me...

PÈMÍSÍRE”

Instead of teaching me, Mrs Arole abandoned me in the class. Whenever I
came to school, all she did was

“ Pemisire, good morning how are you?”

“ I am fine!” I would slur.

Afterwards, I took my seat and bowed my head because of the multiple

flashing lights. She would teach the other students but left me in my own
world. Whenever it was break time, she would give me my food.

Towards the close of the school period, she would pick my class notes, come
to me and hold my hands, writing with my hands. I didn’t understand what
she was doing...

Whenever I got back from school, Mama would check my book and with joy,
she would pat my back. Mama had enough time for her business as she made
me stay in the after school class. So whenever she dropped me off at 7 in the
morning, she picked me up at 6 pm.

I was wasting away, all I did was eat and sleep.

****************
( ABIGAIL’S PART)
I was finally getting my life back. I had enough time on my hand since
Pemisire was in school all day. I decided it was time to look for a better job.
Mrs Ayomide’s name crossed my heart immediately... She would be the best
person to get me a job...
65
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

I had gone with Pemisire to her place four weekends after he started school...

“ A Corporate Job?” She had asked

“Yes !” I had answered very excitedly

“ What happens to Pemisire?” She asked

“ He will be fine, already he is doing great!”

“ What do you mean?”

“ I mean he has been doing well with me dropping him off at 7 am and picking
him up at 6 pm. The teacher says he is doing great and I am really surprised
at how fast he is catching up. He can write 1-20 already in four weeks... Thank
you, Aunty, for helping me discover how smart he is through the Ludo game.”

“ Hmm... Speaking of Ludo game, he doesn’t seem interested in the game

today” Mrs Ayomide pointed out as David was trying to pull Pemisire to the
Ludo game...

“ No... Noo...” Pemisire slurred.. “ I want to sleeeeppppp”

That caught my attention, that was the fourth time he wanted to sleep before
2 pm. After they had said their devotion that morning, he said he wanted to
sleep, of which I let him. In the two cabs that took us to Mrs Ayomide’s house,
Pemisire slept. Now he was asking to sleep again.

66
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“ This is the fourth time he is sleeping today, hope he is not coming down
with a fever...” I rose hastily to him

Mrs Ayomide went into her room as I moved towards my son.

“ Pemisire... are you okay?” I could feel the pain in my lower abdomen.
Whenever something was wrong with Pemisire, my stomach would always
react. I guess it had to do with the mother-child bond.

Mrs Ayomide came back with the thermometer. She told me to step back and
on getting the readings, it was normal.

“ He is fine, I don’t think What is happening to him has anything to do with

fever. You should ask him what is wrong...” Mrs Ayomide said

“ Pemisire, What is wrong? Talk to me...” I said pleading.

He looked at me and with tears dropping from his eyes he said...

“ Mama... Gooodd boyyyys shoulddd alwayssss sleeep and not disturbbbb”

Pemisire said and I felt my world stopped...

“ I knew it... I knew they had tampered with something... So you think you
can leave a child like Pemisire in the hands of some wicked teachers from 7
am to 6 pm and you will find him intact...?”

“ I was shaking my head in pity for you when you said He was doing fine. 12
hours in a school and you think your child will be fine...” Mrs Ayomide said
to me

“I wanted to make more money as to pay his fee and support ourselves.” I
defended

“At the expense of losing him. God favoured you a special seed and you want
farmers who have no understanding of the kind of seed he is to help you grow
him. What happened to picking up your son at 2 pm. Isn’t that the normal
school closing hours? Oh I get, you are seeing him as a burden and you found
the school as a burden bearer. For the past 4 weeks, what time have you had
together...?” She chided

“Before we get home, he is always asleep, but on Sundays, we are always at

home,” I said shedding tears.

It began to make sense, the past two weekends, he slept all through the
weekend. I thought the school had exhausted him, little did I know the school
was training my son to be dumb and sleepy...

“Pemisire, come over here...” Mrs Ayomide beckoned on Him. She made him
sit on the dining table. She offered him a sheet of paper and a pencil...

“Pemisire, your mother told me you can now write 1-20, write for me...” Mrs
Ayomide said but Pemisire looked on like he didn’t understand what she was
talking about..

68

I wept and wept profusely as he kept looking like a dummy...

“Pemisire write please...” I pleaded. I didn’t want to believe what I was

seeing..

****************
I didn’t like seeing mama in tears, but I couldn’t write on my own. The
teacher was always holding my hand to write whatever it was she was trying
to write.

“Mama... teeecher... holdddd myyy handdd to wrrrite” I said in defence.

All I saw was that my mother’s body hit the floor. I didn’t know what it meant
but I knew it wasn’t right. Mrs Ayomide jumped from the chair to help her..
she took a bottle of water and poured it on her and Mama woke up...

***********
( ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
Few hours after I passed out and woke up, I sat down sober. Pemisire sat
beside me curling up against me...

“ I told you once that I was the cause of my son’s ineffectuality but I never
told you how, but I will tell you today.” Mrs Ayomide said

I looked on like a moron with no strength to talk.

“I gave birth to David as a normal child, everything about him was fine. I was
working in the bank at the time and I was already on the level of the internal
auditor. I was aiming for the position of a branch Manager. My husband was

69
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

also working in an oil company but died when David was 3 months which
made me take a long leave...
Therefore immediately after my one year leave, I enrolled David in a crèche
that had a school. The 1 year I spent at home nursing my son was the longest
I spent with him for over 4 years.

I never crosschecked my son’s books. I was confident my son was doing well
in school.

My world came crashing down when I was summoned to his school...

“ Mrs Ayomide, I asked to see you because of David. We think David may
need to see a doctor...” the headmistress had said to me

“ Why? He is not sick .?” I asked

“ Emm... academically he is not doing well. You know in this school we don’t
grade students with positions, but if we did David would probably take the
last position in class”

“ That means the school is not doing its job, I am sorry to say...”

“ Madam, before calling you I have done several things to help your son. All
his teachers have been complaining about him, and as a way of finding out
the problem, I asked a friend who is a psychologist to please come to evaluate
your son. I wanted to know if there was a way of imparting knowledge into
him...”

“ And ?”

70
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

“ I am not allowed to disclose the result to you, so I suggest you take him for
the test your self”

I left her office very angry. I took my son away from that school. My son was
very active when it came to playing, he was also fluent in speaking so I
wondered what they meant by my son needed help...

The new school was more expensive and in two weeks I had been
summoned... The headmistress also expressed her concern about him having
learning disabilities. She asked if they could carry out a test on him. I agreed
and when I was told the result of the evaluation I almost passed out...

PÈMÍSÍRE”

“Madam, your son has a learning disability called dyslexia and he shows
signs of ADHD!” The proprietress said to me

“ADHD? What is that? I have heard about dyslexia though I don’t know much
about it. But what is ADHD?”

“It is a disorder that includes difficulty staying focused and paying attention,
difficulty controlling behaviour and hyperactivity. Although ADHD is not
considered a learning disability, research indicates that a large percentage of
children with ADHD also have a specific learning disability and that the two
conditions can interact to make learning extremely challenging, which is
where dyslexia comes in. Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects reading
and related language-based processing skills. The severity can differ in each
individual but can affect reading fluency, decoding, reading comprehension,
recall, writing, spelling, and sometimes speech. However, in David’s case, he
talks but if you pay attention and spend time with him, you will realize he
talks lower than his age.” The proprietress had said

“Abigail, my life crashed. My husband and I had agreed that we only wanted
a child, so we could give him the best life. I wept profusely in front of the
proprietress. I asked questions as to why me?”

“Why not you?” The proprietress has asked

“Are you different from the women who have these type of Children. I don’t
know what caused this in your child, but whatever this child turns out to be
in future lies in your hands...”

72

“For you not to have discovered this in your child very early, it shows that
you have not been very observant.”

“My son was not born with this disability. In fact when he was around 10
months, while I was on leave, he had started identifying alphabets.”

“ Who taught him the alphabets at that time?” The proprietress asked

“ Myself...”

“ So what happened?”

“ I had to go back to work, so I enrolled him at the sunshine crèche.”

“ Sunshine Crèche? The same sunshine crèche on Bentley street?”

“ Yes, ma... “

“ My goodness, this is going to be the 5th case that can be traced to Sunshine
crèche... The school is owned by “ schoolpreneurs”, where everything starts
and ends with money.” The proprietress said...

*************
“ Abigail, I got to know that the crèche added sleeping syrup into the meals
of the children, and all the children would sleep all day. Therefore, whenever
the children returned home they were always hyperactive. Abigail, my son
lived on sleeping syrup daily for 6 months. The sleeping syrup had
overwhelmed his brain. He became physically overactive but mentally
drained...

73

Abigail I suffered, no school was willing to accept him. The proprietress

advised we took him to a Special School but I was stubborn about it...

I didn’t want to accept that my child had a learning disorder...

Abigail for 10 years I lived in denial. I got the best lesson teachers who tried
hard. I kept spending all my salary on multivitamins that could boost his
brain. I enrolled him for different therapy sessions... Abigail what had been
broken had been broken...

At that point, no school was ready to accept a 14 year old boy into Nursery
One....

(ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)

I watched Mrs Ayomide in amazement, she was right about her being the
cause of her son’s ineffectuality. However, you couldn’t blame her in totality.
She had her own life to live...

“Ma, stop crying, don’t blame yourself. You had your life to live, you had to
face your career as well. You had to pay the bills...” I said in a bid to encourage
her but Mrs Ayomide cut in...

“Exactly where I missed it... Listen Abigail, there are children whom the Lord
may demand certain sacrifices from you as a way of nurturing them for His
great Work. You may have to lose your career, family for a while so that you
can train that Child in the way the Lord wants..”

“I don’t understand...” I said

“God interrupted the plans of Mary and Joseph in the Bible when He gave
them Jesus. Do you know how they must have felt? If it had happened in this
time, and you were Mary, won’t you have second thoughts about it? Won’t
you at times ask yourself, “Is this Child really from God?”. Then to make
matters worse after having the baby, God tells you to relocate to Egypt
because of the safety of the child...”

“ Hmmm...”

75

“ Can you imagine Mary having to leave her career, imagine Joseph who was
not even the biological father. He also had to relocate to Egypt, where they
knew “no one”. I am sure Joseph might have had a rough start telling people
he was a carpenter that could be trusted... All these just to keep a Strange
child safe.”

The room was quiet...

Mrs Ayomide didn’t have to say much any longer. I understood what she
wanted of me. She wanted me to take Pemisire as God’s project in my hand.
I would have to make certain sacrifices by getting a job that would make me
stay closer to him...

“ Does it mean that Pemisire won’t go to school?” I asked

“ No... Not unless you want to homeschool him. You can take him to the
Special school David attends, but it is really expensive.” Mrs Ayomide
replied..

“ How much?” I asked

“ The exact amount you pay for your one year rent is the tuition fee for one
term.”

“ What!”

I took to Mrs Ayomide’s advice and I stayed with my bean cake frying
business, but I made it mandatory that I pick up Pemisire by 2 pm.

I couldn’t afford the school David was attending. Pemisire went back to his
school but that was after I spoke extensively with the headmistress. I told her
what her teacher was doing with my son. The headmistress crosschecked his
books and saw the game the teacher was trying to play...

“ Mrs Arole, this is not the heart of a good teacher, you don’t help a student
to the point where the child actually knows nothing… You are to help a child
become the best he can be...this is cheating..” the headmistress said
disappointedly

“ I am sorry!” Mrs Arole replied “I thought I was helping him”

“ You are going on a three weeks suspension, Mrs Arole”

Pemisire was handed over to another teacher.

( PEMISIRE’ S ANGLE)

Mother made it possible for my teacher to be changed. The name of my new

teacher was Miss Sandra. She was a young beautiful lady. The smile she gave
me the first time I got into her class caught me plus she called me...

“ Handsome Pemisire!”

That warmed my heart...

But...

The problem was the same, the multiple flashing lights... I wanted to raise
my head up in class to listen to Miss Sandra but I couldn’t. The light was
flashing and disturbing my brain. I started raising my hands to block the ray
of light from the coloured cardboards...

“ Pemisire, are you okay?” Miss Sandra asked me...

“ Lightttttt... my eyes” I said

Miss Sandra walked to the light switch and turned off the light... Surprisingly
the flashing lights reduced, but there were still a few lights ... the other
children looked surprised at the light going off...

“ How about now?”

“ Small!”

Miss Sandra went to the window blind and closed the window... Finally! The
lights disappeared...

“How about now?”

“ Fine!” I said and I saw Miss Sandra smile...

“ Aunty... Light... I can’t see” Said one of the other children

“ Auntyy... Ojuju( dark masquerade) will eat me” another one said

“Sh...Sh... calm down you all, we all need to take away the light for a while so
that our new friend can see...”

“ Is he a monster that can only see in the dark?” Said by a child who seems
the oldest in the class...

“A vampire?” Said another 4 year old child

“ No... he has special powers...” said Miss Sandra..

“Powers like power rangers?” Said one of the students

“Yes... “ Miss Sharon said

Albert, one of the boys in the class walked up to me and said...

“ My name is Albert... what is your name?”

“ Pemisire...” But I must have pronounced it as “ Demifire”, so Miss Sandra

helped me out...

I smiled not knowing what to do but suddenly I saw a snake wrapped around

his hand to the back. I grabbed his hand and forcefully removed the snake
off him and crushed it under my foot killing it. As soon as I killed it I walked
to the trash and threw the snake them...

“ My Hand! My hand! “ Albert was screaming when I was removing the snake
because I needed to twist his hand back to the front...

“ Pemisire stop it!” Miss Sandra had screamed. I didn’t listen I wanted to
complete my job.

When I did, Albert said...

“ My Hand does hurt anymore... Miss Sandra, Pemisire has powers “.

Miss Sandra looked at me strangely...

“Good!” She managed to say “ Let’s continue the class”

A girl named Becca who sat in front looked at me strangely with evil
intentions...

PÈMÍSÍRE”

On getting home that day I chatted off in excitement... but all Mama wanted
to hear about was what I had learnt that day. She wanted to know if I had
learnt to write any number or alphabet. She wasn’t interested in the story
about Albert and Miss Sandra finding a solution to the flashing lights. When
I noticed, I kept quiet about it and focused on pleasing her in my academics...

Miss Sandra was a gift to me, we used very low lighting in my class, so I could
learn.

I made a few friends...John, Albert, Sade and Beatrice. Beatrice was the one
who sat next to me in class. She was particularly nice to me. She did one of
the nicest things ever to me...

“ Pemisire, take!” She handed me a pack of handkerchief

“ My mummy sells them, I asked my mummy to give me some for you, so you
can clean your mouth with it anytime you have saliva on your mouth.. My
mummy uses it for my baby brother too...” Beatrice had said

“ Thank you!” those little handkerchiefs became a forever treasure for me.

I had already learnt how to write 1-4 in 3 weeks and I was improving by the
day.

One day, a stranger came into the class with Miss Sandra. He was a dark
looking masculine creature. Miss Sandra was not her usual and happy self.

81

She gave all of us classwork that would last the whole day. The masculine
creature kept caressing her hair as she cried...

When it was lunchtime and everyone had gone to the playground, I walked
to Miss Sandra’s table where she laid her head...

“ Miss ...sssanda...” I Said

She looked up and jumped back in fear obviously because of my scary face,
but she quickly recovered..

“ Pemisire, What do you want? Don’t you have lunch?”

“ Whyyyy are you cryyying , you arrreee not happyyyyy... “

“ Aww, Pemisire thank you, I am fine, I am just a bit down. I will be better
soon..”

“Is it because of the dirtyyyyy man?” I said referring to the man standing by
her who was looking at me madly...

“ What do you want? She is my wife!” The dirty man said

“ I am not your wife ... Shut up... I said stop saying that!” Miss Sandra replied

I was surprised my teacher could hear the man...

“Pemisire, you can see him?” Miss Sandra asked and I nodded in the positive

82

“ I knew you were Special ...” Miss Sandra said

“Pemisire, you healed Albert’s hand the other day, can you chase him away
from me. He has been chasing away all the men I ought to marry. This
morning, the man that ought to get married to me called off our engagement,
says he saw me in his dream and an angel told him I am a witch. Pemisire, I
am not a witch, this evil thing is destroying me...”

“ Shame on you Sandra, you are sending a little boy against me” he laughed
with his annoying robotic voice.

Then the room was filled with bright Light that wasn’t disturbing my eyes. It
was my lightning friends who cheered me up during my Ludo game that were
around..

One of them walked up to me and said...

“He just called you a little boy, remember the Bible story your mama taught
you about the little boy and Goliath. What did the little boy use against the
big Goliath?”

“ Stones”

“ How many ?”

“ Five”

“ You need Five stones ? For what” Miss Sandra said as she saw the way I was
looking

get the stone, she couldn’t help but say “ Pemisire, you are speaking fluently”

“ Five Stones” I said to her....

“ Yes, Five Stones” Miss Sandra rushed out and brought the stones...

“You want to use stones against me, do I look like a dog?” Said the dirty
creature

I remembered when his mother told him the story, he remembered she said
David said “I come against you in the name of the Lord.”

I did just that and the result was .....

“ I come against you in the name of the Lord,” I said and I threw the first
stone at his forehead. He staggered. I threw the second one and he staggered
more, till the Five Stones landed on the figure. His fall was mighty...

Miss Sandra could not control her tears, I saw the joy on her face. She hugged
me so tightly....

“Thank you, Thank you Pemisire... I knew there was something about you..”

“ Yes, something very odd “ said the only girl who didn’t like me in Class. She
must have walked in on us unnoticed.

Her name was Becca and it was obvious I irritated her...

I saw who she really was, a very huge hawk...

Miss Sandra didn’t see her for who she was, so she dismissed her...

“Becca, you can stay outside till lunch break is over. I need some time with
Pemisire.” She said and Becca opened her mouth. What followed was an
arrow. I held the arrow before it could hit Mrs Sandra.

“ You will leave this school” Becca said authoritatively

Miss Sandra became shocked at Becca’s audacity

85

“ Am I missing something?” Miss Sandra said

I didn’t say a word but she figured out...

“She is evil?”

“ Miss Sandra if you don’t want the dirty man to come back, stop watching
those dirty movies and try to know a lot of Bible stories in your heart that will
give you the right weapon to fight,” I said fluently. I know at that time I wasn’t
the one who spoke because Miss Sandra said...

“ Pemisire, I think you have gotten your miracle, you are talking fluently”

“ Yessss, I thiinnnk so “ I immediately started slurring...

There was an immediate look of disappointment on her face and I was also
disappointed. I wished I could continue speaking fluently like other kids...

Miss Sandra bent in front of me and looked at me...

“ Regardless of what you look like, that’s not who you are, you are what is on
the inside. Today you were my prophet, my agent of deliverance so anytime
anyone wants to define you, remember what God has done through you
today. PEMISIRE, you are a Special Child.

Mama made it a duty to pick me up every day at 2 pm. Whenever we got

home, it was Food, and Lesson time.

Playing Ludo was my reward.

Miss Sandra was always kind and calm towards me. No more flashing lights
because everyone became used to the dimly lit class...

I became conscious of my saliva because of Beatrice. She became my best

friend. Once, I saw her for who she was, she was a white dove.

All of a sudden, trouble came into my Paradise...

“🎶Good Morning Ma, we are happy to have you. God bless you ma’am🎶”

I heard the Usual rhyme whenever the Headmistress or the visitors came into
the class. I was with Miss Sandra, it was a free period, she was showing me
the picture of her Fiance who broke his engagement with her. She was
sharing her testimony with me that he called back apologizing, saying it was
the devil’s work. Indeed it was the devil’s work. After the dirty Spirit had left,
the Fiance must have seen clearly.

“Good Morning Pupils!” The headmistress said... She was followed closely by
Becca’s mother.

“It’s exactly what I was told. Why do you switch off the lights in your
classroom.”

“It is to help Pemisire’s Learning, the lights affect him” Miss Sandra said

“And you don’t care that the absence of light affects other children.” Becca’s
mother spoke up

“No..ma’am, the kids are fine with it...They all agreed to help Pemisire” Miss
Sandra said

“My daughter is not fine with it, she can’t see under low light,” Becca’s mum
said

“She never told me that, I could have found a better seat for her..”

“Miss Sandra, Becca tells me you Favour the deformed boy more than other
students. Is there a reason why?” Becca’s mum asked

“ I ... do no such thing.” Miss Sharon said.

“Well, since what my daughter told me about the poor lighting is correct, if
there cannot be bright Light in her classroom by tomorrow because of one
student I would enrol her in another school. I can’t have my daughter
straining her eyes in class.” Becca’s mum strutted out, but as she was about
to leave. I saw her for what she was. She was a giant Vulture. At that age, I
didn’t know the difference in birds, I thought they were all big birds, but
growing up I realized the different kinds of birds and what they stood for.
Hawks like Becca are people who advocates aggressive in a warlike manner
against the carriers of Light. While her mother who was a vulture was one of
those who live to feast on sick or dying people.

“I can not lose a major financier of this school because of a strange child.
Send a letter to his mother that I would like to see her.” The headmistress
said before walking out.

( ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)
My heart thudded when Pemisire handed over the letter. On seeing the
content, I asked

“ Did you do anything wrong ?”

“ No mama!,”

“ Are you sure?”

“ Yes mama...but...”

Pemisire took his time to explain all that had been happening and I sighed
heavily.

I knew where this was going to end and I wasn’t sure if I was ready for it...

THE SACRIFICE Mrs Ayomide Spoke about.

The next day I went to Pemisire’s School.

“Madam, we want to advise that you withdraw Pemisire to a school for the
Special Needs students. His teacher has been able to discover that a well-lit
room has a way of distracting him and disturbing his learning. Therefore, he
needs a dimly lit room which our school can not create for him only. I have a
list of Special schools recommendation for you.”

“ Thank you !” Was all I said.

I knew arguing or begging was not the solution.

She took me to Pemisire’s classroom. She spoke silently to the class teacher.
It was obvious the teacher was not happy with the decision.

“If Pemisire leaves this school, I will leave!” She said out loud.

“ Pemisire is leaving?”
“ Pemisire is going?”

The pulpits were saying to themselves...

“ It’s Becca’s fault!”

“ I am no longer Becca’s friend”

there is a new path Pemisire must follow. He is a Special Child hence must
be treated specially. If the headmistress will permit me, I could bring him
anytime you have excursions or social days.”

The room of little children was very silent...

Miss Sandra walked up to me and said...

“ What are you doing ma’am? Where are you taking him to, Pemisire is
already improving, please ma...”

“ I am not taking him anywhere, I want to do what God would want me to do

for him.”

“ What?”

“Pemisire, tells me you are a Christian?” I wanted confirmation

Mama withdrew me from the School and just like she told Miss Sandra, She
started homeschooling me. However, the time table was different. Due to the
peak period of her beancake sale, we usually go out in the morning to sell her
beancake and return home by 2 pm. I started school from 3 pm till 8 pm,
Mondays to Friday. Miss Sandra became a very close Family Friend. She gave
mother the scheme of Work I needed for that academic session. She bought
me Special books that were for the Special needs kids. The books could not
be bought in any of the bookstores, but she used her position as a teacher to
get them for me. She Spent Saturday mostly in our house, as a way of helping
in areas Mama may not have done it right. Sometimes, she was the one who
stayed with me at home, whenever Mama had a party to attend on Saturdays.

Mrs Ayomide also gave Mother some of the old books David used from the
Special School. She also got the scheme of Work of the Special needs school
for my Mother. Mrs Ayomide surprised Mama, with a Laptop and an android
Phone.

“ You will need this to surf the internet for materials to help you homeschool
Pemisire.” Mrs Ayomide had told Mama on giving her the gift.

Mother made Learning fun for me. I learnt from basically everything around
me. I learnt mathematics from helping her at her beancake spot. I was in
charge of keeping her money. So I learnt addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division through money.

93

Mother was no longer ashamed of me. She took me along to her frying spot.
I was always helping her to wash all the Utensils she used in frying. However,
I had my reservations...

“Mamaaaa, won’t people run awayyyy from beannncake if they see me there”
I had asked her once

“ Whoever does not want Pemisire, can not have Pemisire’s mother’s
beancake....” she said smiling

Initially, when I started following my mother to her beancake stand, her

buyers reduced drastically. People called her names. Some other beancake
seller instigated people against Mother, saying she was a witch who had
donated her son’s brain in other to sell lots of beancake....

People bought the lie, but mother never gave up. I saw her tenacity and I
learnt from it. Some days she would only sell few pieces and by the next day
she would reheat the ones left from the previous day.

The day everything changed started like a normal day. We usually got to the
spot very early...

We sat waiting for the few customers to buy, just then I heard my name very
loudly....

“ PEMISIREEEEEE” I heard my name

“ PEMISIREEEEEE” I heard my name

On looking up, it was Beatrice calling me. There was thick traffic that
morning, a tanker loaded with fuel had fallen to its side, and the fuel was
licking. There was no movement and everyone was stuck...

When Mother saw the scenario, she started frying more beancakes. As a
result, I was up and doing helping her. Beatrice’s vehicle must have stopped
in front of us....

“ PEMISIREEEEEE” She called again.

“ Beatriceeeeee” I was so excited about seeing her. I started jumping out of

excitement. Beatrice also wanted to get down from the vehicle.

Her parents must have asked her if she knew me and she told them yes. She
told them she wanted to say hi to me. Her parents let her down and Beatrice
ran towards me with so much excitement hugging me tightly.

My excitement took the best of me... I started weeping and Beatrice was
weeping as well. Everyone at the bus stop including my mother, her business
rivals, those who had despised me couldn’t help but stare at us. A lot of
people found themselves in tears ...

“ Mama... Mama my frienddddd, Beatrice gave me handkerchiefff” I said

excitedly.

Beatrice’s mother and Father alighted from their vehicle carrying Beatrice’s
brother. The traffic was a Lockdown, so they couldn’t move anymore...

Out of excitement I packed some of Mama’s beancake and gave to Beatrice

and her parents...

“ You are going to give Mummy’s beancake for free” Beatrice’s mother said
jokingly...

“ Yes... Free, Beatrice is my frienddddd” I said very excitedly...

“ PEMISIREEEE” I heard another person call my name...

I turned back and it was Albert from his parent’s car... They were all on their
way to school that morning... I ran towards his vehicle in excitement and he
shook my hand from the vehicle. I couldn’t control my tears... I was seeing
my friends... I greeted his parents and ran back to my mother’s beancake. I
packed a few more for Albert and his family.

“ Mum, this is my friend Pemisire that has super powers and made my hand
pain go away.” Albert said to his mother

Everyone kept watching in amazement.... I saw my lightning friends, they

were so excited...

Before long, about Five of my classmates had alighted from their parents’
Vehicle.

Mother got a lot of money that day from my friends' parent and the presence
of the parents of my friends served as a validation for my mother and me.

At some point, the parents called Mama aside while I was playing with my
friends.

That day was the happiest day of my life. If someone had told me that
Pemisire will attract wealthy people to my beancake stand, I wouldn’t have
believed it.

“ Madam why is Pemisire no more in School?” Beatrice’s Father asked me

“ He is a Special child, but as brilliant as he is, he can not learn in a distracting

environment where there is a lot of light. He loses focus easily. At first in
School, his teacher was helping him by switching the Light off, but a parent
complained her daughter could not work in low light. I therefore took it upon
myself to homeschool him and the results have been amazing.” I said

“Have you considered sending him to a Special School?” Albert’s mother

asked

“I will support you with half the payment every term if you ever consider
sending him there...” Beatrice’s Father said

I stood shocked with my mouth wide open. It took me a while to recover and
thank them wholeheartedly.

“ We will pay up the other half” Albert’s Mother said on behalf of their
family…

“ Well, since his education has been settled, i think if you have a better place
of business it will create more finance for you to care for him more... I will
support your business with half a million, your beancake taste really fine. I
am sure with more capital you can do better.”

I wondered what was happening...

PART 33
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi O. Akintunde
I felt my prayers had been answered. I got home and started worshipping
God. I was glad He became my husband even when my husband deserted
me.

I put a call through to my Earthly Father. Ever since I got the phone I spoke
to my father frequently. That helped me grow more Spiritually, in fact, days
before the miraculous happening, my father and I had prayed for 2 hours
over the phone at midnight thanks to the free calls given by the
telecommunication company.

One of the prophecies, my father had declared was that in God raising
Pemisire, he would raise me, but I must be ready to raise Pemisire well...

With the excitement that God was already raising Pemisire, I put a call
through...

“ Hmmm... that looks like the hand of God, but is it time for that now?” My
Father replied

“ I don’t understand Father!” I said as my heart started racing...

“ I don’t know if this Word is meant for you, this morning I kept hearing in
my Spirit “Elizabeth hid herself for 6 months”, that is Elizabeth nurtured and
hid the baby John for six months of conception. Abigail, I will suggest you
still work on Pemisire for a little more time before you return him to school.
Nurture him well, input what you want him to have, if possible homeschool
him for the 6 years of his primary education...”

“ Baba Mii, he won’t have any form of interpersonal relationship...”

“No, that depends on you! Build a learning system for him that will involve
an interpersonal relationship with people and Most importantly there is a
part of Pemisire I believe you are yet to see. Abigail, I know what it feels like...
I know you want your life back and pursue your dream of becoming a lawyer,
but relax and show God that you are faithful in the little he has placed in your
hand, so he can commit much more in your hands....”

I wept after that heart to heart discussion with my father. I knelt before God
and I cried to the Almighty God...

“ Father, I don’t know why of all people you would give me a son like
Pemisire. I have prayed and checked within myself. I didn’t live a sinful life
while growing up, I got married as a virgin, but yet I thought I will live a
better life. My husband left me because of this child. Lord, I am about to serve
you by raising Pemisire the best I can, Lord do not let my efforts be a waste.
Bring something great out of Pemisire. Let his name reflect in his life. Let
Him be called for great things.

Today, I commit myself to serve you through this child, I know at some point
I thought he was your creation mistake but now I know he is a deliberate
work of art. Help me Oh Lord....”

As I raised my head, I was surprised at who I saw standing at the door...

A man walked in, he looked familiar but I couldn’t place where I knew him
from. My eyes saw who he was.

He was an old looking worn out rat, that had a lot of wounds on his body.
Over his shoulder was a rope that dragged a truck load of garbage after him.

“ Hello Children...please I...” The man on seeing me took a pause . He then

said

“ You must be Pemisire?”

“ Yes, his name is Pemisire” Emeka answered on my behalf

“ Hello, can I see your Mummy? I am your Daddy!” I kept on looking at him

piece of paper and drew a big rat carrying a truckload of garbage. He had
wounds all over his body. Right in front of it, he wrote HIM.

I took it from him but I didn’t understand it one bit. Out of desperation to
pass his message across, he took the paper from me and started drawing

animals with people’s names in front of it... From myself, Him , Mrs
Ayomide, Miss Sandra, Beatrice and others...

I was able to discern what he meant but that was an amazing gift he had...
He was telling spiritual things through the characters of animals. GBENGA
was a rat, which depicted poverty and he was carrying a lot of trash.
Immediately, in the midst of everything that was ongoing, my mind flashed
back to the driver of the tricycle, it seem Pemisire saw something... I ignored
GBENGA who was standing and I focused on Pemisire.

“Pemisire, That man you hit his head in the tricycle, what did you see on the
man...?” I waited anxiously to know if Pemisire seeing the invisible things
was part of the gift God had given him.”

“ Yessss... there werrrre antssss on his head.”

“Oh my God, I was living with a prophet and I didn’t know!” I exclaimed

“ Oh God forgive me, no wonder you hid him in an unlikely vessel so that the
evil ones will not spot him quickly...” I said loudly....Suddenly I remembered
GBENGA who was still standing in the door way.

“GBENGA, I don’t know what happened overseas that made you come back
to me, but what ever it is , I don’t care. Get out of my house.” I said

“ I was deported. I thought I would be able to get my papers but I couldn’t “

“ Well congratulations...but I don’t have space for you here.”

“ I brought him back to be your support in raising Pemisire. I frustrated his

efforts over there so he can be of help to you.” I heard those words loud and
clear in my heart...

“ No...!” I screamed very unhappy...

“ Mama..” my son ran towards me...

PART 35
PÈMÍSÍRE”
©️Opeyemi O. Akintunde

(ABIGAIL’S ANGLE)

Just like my Father and Mrs Ayomide advised, I sat with my precious Special
Child. I nursed Him into greatness...

I learnt a lot during the journey...

Special Children come in Unlikely Vessels. If you are not careful you may
judge them by the shortcomings you see and that blocks you from harvesting
the treasure in them...

Jesus was born in a manger, it wasn’t a noble birth. His birth disrupted his
parents’ plans. His father could not make love to His mother during the 9
months pregnancy. His entrance into their relationship came with its
sacrifice, but at the end, he became the Saviour of the world. If he had been
born in a fancy hospital, Herod would have found him out very quickly.

After I discovered Pemisire had the gift of prophecy and Healing, I made my
home His Bible College. I groomed him in the Lord. Academically, I did my
best at his pace.

During one of our Bible Study sessions, he said a word to me that changed
my life...

105

“ Mama... even Moses was a stammerer like me, God uses imperfect things
to do Perfect things.” Pemisire had said

Miss Sandra got married and she made Pemisire her best boy. The scenario
brought tears out of her eyes. She insisted on sharing the testimony of how
Pemisire was the one the Lord used for her...

I told Beatrice’s Father and the others of my decision to homeschool Pemisire

throughout His Primary education. They supported the decision and insisted
that they pay the money they had promised into an account as savings for his
Secondary education.

Gbenga rededicated his life to Christ, when he saw amazing things God did
through his Son’s life. In no time he had opened a Furniture business,
through the help of Albert’s Father. Albert’s Father was into importing
furniture. Albert had hinted his father that Pemisire’s dad was a carpenter.
Afterwards, they got talking and the rest they say is history.

Have I written about PEMISIRE INTERNATIONAL MODEL SCHOOL?

Well, I thought I was doing Pemisire a Favour by training Him for those six
years not knowing I was training myself. I came up with my own curriculum
for him, sports he could play, games that could improve his mental faculty,
Ethics and moral classes... He attended excursions with the students from
the regular schools. That way he mixed with other students. I organized
parties for.

Little did I know that Pemisire would become a proof of what a Special Needs
Child can achieve...

He came 2nd position at the African Spelling Bee Competition

And

He has met 7 Presidents within the Short existence of 30 years and

counting...

He gives motivational speeches all over the world.

The Quote He is known for is “ I AM NOT A MISTAKE, THOUGH I MAY

NOT LOOK LIKE YOU, BUT I AM A DELIBERATE HANDSOME WORK OF
ART.”

He has a Software development Company.

PEMISIRE turns 30 this year and it is with great pleasure I write this part of
his life story I can tell...

Through Him the Lord raised me up, I became a name in the educational
sector. PEMISIRE INTERNATIONAL MODEL SCHOOL caters for both the
regular students and the special kids ( who I refer to as the ABNORMAL-
ABOVE NORMAL KIDS).

Special Students are brought from different countries of the World to my

school and they turn out Grade A Students.

One of my greatest secrets is knowing the source of the Child’s ineffectuality

because once the source is known, the solution becomes easy.

I learnt that lesson from Mrs Ayomide. The scripture she shared about the
Eunuchs who were born like that, or Eunuch made by man and Eunuch made
by self...

My Sucess module was to find out if a Special Child was created:

1) By God that way

2)Did he become that way because of human influences, which could vary
from physical or Spiritual. There were Special kids who were dull or the way
they were because they were bewitched or cursed. I had to help them
Spiritually.

108
INSPIRED BY THE LIVING WORD OPEYEMI AKINTUNDE

3) Or were they Children who out of Laziness made themselves Special

needs...

The result from the evaluation gives My school the ability to train the
children in their own unique ways and thereafter give birth to great
Champions like Pemisire...

*******

(PEMISIRE’S ANGLE)

I have achieved a lot of Sucess by the age of 30, but the second greatest
achievement yet to be accomplished is the one I look forward to on my
birthday. I will be marrying my best friend...

Beatrice Ogar...

Through the help of her Parents, I went through Secondary school and
University. Together we went through school, and sometimes though I tell
her she is a gift to me, she would reply instead with a smile....

“ You rather are the gift, God packaged my gift in a Special Vessel so that
other ladies would be too blind to see the treasure.”

Now to my greatest achievement; USING my gift for the Lord. I am

Evangelist Pemisire. As I go around the world for different conferences I
make it a duty to have crusades in those countries and my gift of seeing
situations through animals make it easy for me to know the challenges people
are going through and the way out...

When I see a snake, I know it is a serpentine, seductive spirit

When I see a goat, I know it is a stubborn Spirit.

When I see a crab, I know it slow progress

And the list goes on and on...

Am I God’s Creation Mistake or God’s deliberate Work of Art hidden in an

unlikely vessel...?

Be the Judge....

THE END ....

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR AS INSPIRED BY GOD…..

To all the strong women with Special needs children. I salute your strength.
You are a great soldier in the army of God. You are not under a curse, rather
you on a course to bringing out champions from a great challenge. Don’t let
the world define you or that seed God gave to you. They can and will become
great with the Help of God...

To all those who have lived their lives thinking they are God’s Creation
Mistake, be it physically disabled, deaf, dumb, Obese, blind( Incase this is an
audio version you are listening to) or do you have a learning disability, know
that you are God’s Special creature in an Unlikely vessel. When the world
sees what comes out from you, the “ Wow” that pops out of their mouth is a
way of them giving Glory to God....

When Jesus did extraordinary things, it was said concerning Jesus “Can
anything good come from Nazareth?”
This means Where Jesus came from had been written off, therefore if you
have been written off, Follow Christ and see how God will make your hidden
treasures manifest.
Shalom

Prayers
 Oh Lord, Help my Child Fulfill his divine destiny in Jesus
