BRIEFINGS
There are as many ways to conduct a briefing as there are instructors. The content, layout and
presentation will also vary depending on the students, location, available briefing aids etc.
Instructors all work from an instructor guide to provide standardisation.
Below are a few general guidelines/suggestions that will assist you with preparation of simulator
sessions.

SIMULATOR
General considerations
All students will be briefed on the simulator safety and emergency equipment and the
emergency procedures for the training facility in use (location of extinguishers, exits,
rendezvous points etc), pay attention to these safety briefings, if unsure, ask for clarification.
Do not bring any liquids or food into a simulator.
Seatbelts, shoulder harnesses and headsets, where fitted shall be used.
Instructors will inform the students of any simulator defects that may have an influence on
the training session.
If you or other students are ‘jumpseating’ in the simulator, they will be briefed not to
participate in, or disturb, the running of the session. In this case write down any questions
you have while watching and clarify these in the break or after the session.
The type rating sessions are designed in a “Line Oriented Simulation” (LOS) concept. This means
that the exercises shall be allowed to run as close as possible to “real life”, while at the same time
allowing the instructor to give appropriate guidance and prompts to the student before during and
after the exercise, as appropriate. As per the lesson plan, some exercises run from takeoff to
landing, while others are cleared & the airplane re-set once the relevant actions and/or checklists
have been performed. Instructors should again inform the students when an exercise is completed
and inform them what the new situation and aircraft status is.
An instructor may advise you to “touch drill” any major handling/procedure exercise prior to
performing it. For example, ask each student to review their actions out loud prior to inserting the
“Rapid Depressurisation” malfunction. This gives the students a greater chance of completing the
exercise correctly on the first attempt, thus building confidence and creating a positive learning
experience.
Prior to turning the flight controls ON (control loading), resetting flight control malfunctions,
performing “snap shot” recalls and repositioning, the cockpit seat occupants must be advised to
keep clear of the flight controls envelope until the simulation function is completed [feet on floor
clear of pedals, arms to sides of body, back straight against backrest].

DEBRIEFING
The debriefing will take many different forms and will depend on the lesson conducted, the overall
result and progress of the student, the amount of topics that need addressing, and much more.
Briefings will be structured to obtain the best overall result.
Instructors will ‘facilitate’ the debriefing: Discuss the session with the students and ask for their
impression of their performance & result (self-critique).
Listen, take notes and ask questions. The debriefing is VERY valuable as it will help you
understand what areas require improvement and how to achieve it
The debriefing will normally finish with a summary & a review of the next session
Instructors will be honest & constructive
Instructors will review comments that have been written in the training file, you must read
and understand what has been written and sign the page. If you want a copy of comments
you may ask the Instructor

FLIGHT TRAINING DEPARTMENT (CADET)
The focus during Fixed Base is on aircraft systems and standard operating procedures.
Each training day in the simulator has three parts: a 90 minute briefing, a four hour simulator
session (two hours per crew) and a debriefing of 1hour.
Each lesson contains briefing items which are referenced to sections in the Operations Manual or the
Flight Crew Training Manual. Crews are expected to become thoroughly familiar with these items
prior to each simulator session.
The simulator session is designed for each crew to fly a two hour detail. Normally two crews will be
rostered together and both crews will be expected to attend a joint briefing and debriefing. The Pilot
Flying will be rotated between every session.
All exercises may be signed off for both students regardless of acting as PF or PM.
After each simulator session the instructor will conduct a debriefing. Each debriefing will include a
constructive review of the trainee’s performance and items to study for the next simulator session.
The trainee is expected to demonstrate a satisfactory level of knowledge and skill of all manoeuvres
and procedures.
In Full Flight Simulator, the crew will focus on the handling aspect of the type rating, while
continuing to practise the procedures learnt during Fixed Base. Certain manoeuvres are specified as
hand flown exercises, but always try to maximise the amount of handling in each session, to
improve scanning, knowledge of pitch & thrust targets etc.
Each lesson contains briefing items, which are referenced to sections in the Operations Manual or
the Flight Crew Training Manual. Crews are expected to become thoroughly familiar with these items
prior to each simulator session.
Each training day on the simulator has three parts: a 90 minute briefing, a four hour simulator
session which is divided into 2 segments, and a debriefing of 1 hour.
The four-hour simulator session is designed for each pilot to fly a two-hour detail.
All exercises involving any element of handling must be practised by both students
operating as PF in their normal seat. However, “pure checklist” exercises may be signed off for
both students while acting as PF or PM, subject to time available (I.E. an “ELEC DRIVE NNC” may be
completed once during a session for both candidates acting as a crew).
After each simulator session the instructor will conduct a debriefing. Each debriefing will include a
constructive review of the student’s performance and items to study for the next simulator session.
The student is expected to demonstrate a satisfactory level of knowledge and skill of all manoeuvres
and procedures for the stage of training.

FLIGHT TRAINING DEPARTMENT (CADET)
The progress assessment is designed to ensure that a student attains a required level of competence
(for that stage in the Type Rating) before continuing to a more demanding stage of training. A
Progress Assessment is a training session and NOT a check. The Progress Assessment sessions are
to be conducted as a normal training session with the instructor engaging fully in the teaching
process. The assessment must be made in conjunction with the training function, not instead of it.
We most definitely do not want four mini-checks developing in the type rating course as a result of
introducing these assessments.
On a Progress Assessment training day, the instructor shall, in addition to entering normal session
comments, make an overall progress assessment and compare the student to the assessment
criteria for the lesson (see following pages).
The assessment shall only be made after the debriefing; the debriefing is considered an integral
part of the training session and therefore an element of training which is weak during the simulator
session may be recovered by the instructor during the debriefing. Therefore, a BELOW STANDARD
performance may be improved to a FAIR if the instructor is confident that a thorough and positive
debriefing has improved the students’ knowledge and/or skill to an acceptable standard. If so the
student can be allowed to continue to the next stage.
The student will be assessed on a scale from 1-5 in various categories (see tables below); this grade
is relative to the stage in training. Any grade 5 will require that the student undergo remedial
training. The SI (Standards Instructor) or CI-SIM shall be informed.
The assessment comments and grade shall reflect the standard achieved at the end of the session
(repeats are of course allowed).
If in doubt about allowing a student to continue with repeat/deferred items, or requesting an extra
training session, contact the local Standards Instructor or CI-Sim. See below.
* NOTE: Assessment scale: 1-Excellent; 2-Very Good; 3-Good; 4-Fair; 5-Below Standard
A student with any grade 5 must not proceed to next stage without remedial training in the affected
area.

FBS 2 continues with normal pre-flight procedures and briefings. Take off, climb and cruise normal procedures. AFDS usage
and modes will be practiced and reviewed. Students will consolidate procedures already learnt in FBS1 relating to pushback,
engine start and taxi.
The pre-simulator brief will stress the importance of FMA annunciations, and for the most part, the remainder of this lesson
will expose the student to different pitch and roll modes and how they are represented on the FMA.
Lesson objectives
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FBS2)
Students shall practice a full setup. The instructor will highlight some important issues relating to the fuel system,
emphasising the correct configuration of the fuel pumps
A normal takeoff and climb out will be accomplished
Reinforcement of the correct after takeoff checklist procedures and scanning of air conditioning and pressurisation
panel in a coherent manner during these checks is essential. Reference the SOP document and the instructor will
insist on the correct reverse “L” method being followed
During the climb out, the instructor will review AFDS pitch modes and annunciations
Altimetry setting procedure (climb and descent) - Pay particular attention to PF leading this call at the correct time.
The call and setting of STD/QNH should not be delayed. This is part of Ryanair’s level bust avoidance scheme and
any lapse in SOPs governing altimeter settings should be brought to the attention of the student
In the cruise, practice & discuss AFDS roll modes & annunciations
Instructor will demonstrate and explain the correct autopilot / autothrottle engagement & disengagement procedure
Student shall practice FMC route modifications procedure / removing route discontinuities
Finish the lesson when the students have reached cruise level
If there is time left; instructor can introduce the approach setup & briefings. Students can perform a normal ECON
descent towards destination for a normal autopilot ILS approach. While descending, observe and discuss AFDS pitch
modes & the differences compared to pitch modes while in climb

FLIGHT TRAINING DEPARTMENT (CADET)
During FBS 3, a complete flight from A to B shall be performed, including full setup and briefings. During
climb/cruise/descent, AFDS roll & pitch modes will be practiced and reviewed in more detail with a demonstration of AFDS &
A/T mode reversion & command speed limiting.
Throughout the session the student will be asked to complete a number of exercises including: VOR navigation, using the FMC
to intercept a course, ATC Immediate Level Off Procedure etc. Once these exercises have been completed, the student will
setup and brief for a CATI ILS approach into Stansted.
Lesson objectives
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FBS3)
A full setup will be performed by the students, followed by engine start, taxi and takeoff (all in accordance with
FCOM1.NP.21/SOP)
During the climb, students will continue to carefully monitor FMA annunciations. After selecting different pitch/roll
modes, the students should be able to predict what associated annunciations will be displayed on the FMA
As briefed in the classroom, the instructor will issue a “STOP CLIMB” ATC instruction, and the students will be
expected to perform the ATC Immediate Level Off Procedure
In cruise, students will practice basic VOR navigation as well as using LNAV to obtain the same result. Instructor will
arrange exercises during the cruise to allow sufficient time for the descent/approach/landing
Instructor will demonstrate FIX page as a source of information
Instructor will demonstrate AFDS & A/T reversion modes and speed limiting
Once destination ATIS has been received the student will setup and brief for an approach using D.A.L.T.A. Excellent
guidance available in FCOM1 and SOP. Assume landing performance calculations complete
VNAV Path shall be used during the descent
The landing shall be an autoland, but based on Cat1 ILS callouts and procedures
Instructor will show the students the correct hand position on the thrust levers during approach
Instructor will show the students the correct hand position on the reverse thrust levers during the landing roll
(No handling shall be practiced during approach and landing. Our main focus at this stage of training is to become
comfortable with standard calls & procedures and the attitude-thrust relationship during approach)
After landing, students shall practice normal taxi-in and “FULL” shutdown procedures
Instructor will finish the lesson when the shutdown checklist is complete

FLIGHT TRAINING DEPARTMENT (CADET)
Continue practice of normal procedures from pre-flight to transit shutdown including further use of FMC modes.
Lesson objectives
Session conducted within the criteria specified for the progress assessment
Practice troubleshooting a system failure during pre-flight - fire detector loop INOP
Recognise & manage threats that exist when updating the FMC before takeoff
Practice intercept of track and radial
Practice & understand VNAV SPD mode
Understand how to enter/exit holding patterns
Practice transit shutdown
Understand special IRS entries and IRS fast alignment
Understand how to calculate fly speed and crosswind limitations
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FBS5)
A full setup will be performed by the students, followed by engine start, taxi and takeoff (all in accordance with
FCOM1.NP.21)
During pre-flight, instructor will insert a “Fire OVHT Test with one loop INOP” failure. Upon recognition of this
malfunction, the students will be expected to refer to the supplementary procedures for guidance on how to
troubleshoot this failure. Instructors must train the use of the MEL
During pre-flight, the instructor will ask the students, in conjunction with supplementary procedures, to manually
enter the GPS L position into the ISDU
During taxi, the instructor will discuss ‘FMC update before takeoff’ including the possible threats that exist, and how
these should be managed to ensure a safe flight.
In the cruise, students will practice intercepting VOR Radials, using both VOR/LOC and LNAV roll modes
Students will practice creating waypoints before and after current waypoints
Instructor will demonstrate the OFFSET function and students will practice creating abeam points
Instructor will introduce VNAV SPD during descent. Discuss differences to VNAV PATH and LVL CHG
Students will enter a hold into the route and practice entering/exiting holding patterns
During setup for approach, review fly-speed calculations & crosswind limitations. Assume landing performance
calculations complete
ILS approach and go-around will be flown dual channel, using normal CAT1 callouts, to be followed by an autoland
ILS approach to land
After landing, students shall practice normal taxi-in and ‘TRANSIT’ shutdown procedures
Once the checks have been completed, the instructor will demonstrate the ‘IRS Fast Alignment Procedure’ and will
also discuss runway incursion prevention with the students
Simulator Debriefing
(The following items are to be discussed once ALL FBS5 items have been debriefed.)
Although there are no Non-Normal exercises within FB5 that necessitate the use of the QRH, students will
benefit if an instructor was to demonstrate the correct technique to be used when reading the QRH before
they break for the day. This will allow the students to go home with a clear idea on how this document is to
be read correctly in preparation for FBS6.
The instructor will take the students through a number of these checklist items, demonstrating the actions of both PF
and PM.

FLIGHT TRAINING DEPARTMENT (CADET)
This lesson will introduce the following items for the first time:
Before Taxi Checklist – Freezing Conditions
QRH and Non-Normal Checklist Management
External Air Start Procedure & Engine Cross Bleed Start
Non Precision Approaches (NPA’s) are introduced
Active runway for departure has a published emergency turn
In-flight fire will be encountered during the flight
Lesson objectives
Develop a systematic approach when dealing with non-normal events
Demonstrate effective management/reading of a non-normal checklist
Practice a wide variety of non-normal checklists. (ranging from electrical to FIRE)
Practice External Air Start / Engine Cross Bleed Start, with reference to supplementary procedures
Understand the implications associated with an emergency turn procedure
Understand the additional procedures associated with ‘freezing conditions’
Practice engine/wing anti-ice procedures during ground / flight operations
Understanding “Double Briefing” concept associated with non-precision approaches
Practice non-precision approach using VNAV to a go-around and landing
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FBS6)
During pre-flight, the instructor will insert a “CDS Fault” failure. Once it has been recognised and handled correctly,
the malfunction will be cleared allowing the crew to continue with remainder of the pre-flight setup
Insert the ‘APU FAULT’ malfunction. The instructor must ensure correct use of the MEL. Students shall use
supplementary procedures and after ensuring all necessary equipment has been attached to the aircraft and the air
conditioning panel correctly configured, an external air start of engine no. 1, followed by a cross bleed start of engine
no. 2 will take place.
After start, the instructor will ensure students correctly use the ‘Before Taxi checklist – Freezing conditions’. The
instructor must also ensure correct use of engine and wing anti ice.
During the cruise, various (bleed trip off, elec source off, wheel well fire) non-normal checklists are accomplished, to
familiarise the students with non-normal checklist management. Once each checklist is complete, the fault will be re-
set and the next fault inserted.
Instructor will allow the students sufficient time to setup and brief for a NPA using VNAV (LOC ONLY). Instructor will
ensure Double Briefing is completed correctly. Assume landing performance calculations complete. One NPA will be
flown to a go-around, followed by re-positioning and a NPA using VNAV to landing.
Review visual landing cues / transition from instrument to visual conditions, aiming point etc
The lesson is finished once (transit) shutdown checks are completed.
Use any extra time to emphasise the non-normal checklist management.
Fixed Base 6 (FBS 6-NG) Training Record (Note: Record 2 hours per crew only)
Simulator Debriefing
In addition to the standard debriefing include the following mandatory discussion item:
Go Around – Two engine go around not in the landing configuration
Although there are no two engine go around exercises within the Type Rating with the aircraft not in the landing
configuration, students will benefit if an instructor emphasises the correct procedure to be used.
Refer to Simulator Study Guide – Go arounds.

FLIGHT TRAINING DEPARTMENT (CADET)
This lesson is a flight from A to B, with an enroute diversion to airport C. Various Non-Normal scenarios will be introduced
relating to the landing gear and hydraulic systems. Further use of the FMC will be practiced. Further practice on NPA’s with
the introduction of the V/S NPA.
Lesson objectives
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FBS7)
During the pre-sim briefing and debriefing, instructor will introduce the QRH Performance-inflight chapter, non-
normal landing distances
Instructor will accomplish the pre-flight setup, and the students can assume Before Start Checklist completed to the
line when entering the simulator
Student will attempt to start an engine however upon recognition of an aborted engine start condition; the student is
expected to carry out the appropriate memory items, before then calling for the aborted engine start check list
During the takeoff, the landing gear will not move to up, the students shall accomplish the appropriate NNC once
reaching a safe altitude. With the NNC complete, the PF will call for the After Takeoff Checklist
In the cruise, instructor demonstrates a number of non-normal checklists including the loss of system A and the loss
of system B (in sequence, avoid manual reversion). During these exercises, the simulator may be frozen, in order for
both students to be able to observe indications and non-normal checklist actions
Once faults are cleared, the students will complete an operational diversion to an enroute airport. ATC will instruct a
direct routing to a holding fix near the airfield, followed by radar vectors for a straight-in NDB DME Rwy 09
Instructor will demonstrate what FMC entries are required when diverting to another airfield. The students will
determine ETA and fuel remaining for the new destination. The pressurisation panel may need to be reset depending
on airfield elevation
Once briefed, setup and double brief completed, the students shall fly a V/S NPA to a go-around followed by V/S NPA
to a landing. Assume landing performance calculations complete. Lesson is finished on landing from the V/S NPA.
Remaining time may be used to practice another V/S approach

FLIGHT TRAINING DEPARTMENT (CADET)
FF1 is the first Full Flight lesson. Main emphasis is on aircraft handling.
Lesson objectives
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FF1)
Instructor will accomplish the pre-flight setup, engine start & taxi out. On entering the simulator, the aircraft will be
at the holding point for Runway 28 in Dublin. Instructor will allow the students time to familiarise themselves with
the SID and all selections.
There will be no need to complete any briefings/instrument crosscheck etc. Instructor will provide you with a
completed loadsheet & flight plan, with the FMC data already entered. Once cleared for takeoff, the instructor will
ask the students to complete the Before Takeoff Checklist in its entirety.
During takeoff, instructor will focus on correct rotation rate and pitch, and repeat as necessary. Refer to the
Simulator Study Guide for correct rotation technique.
Students will engage A/P as per normal procedures and complete the After Takeoff Checklist.
Instructor will ensure that the PM carefully moves the gear handle from UP to OFF. Instructor will demonstrate and
discuss correct actions to be taken if the gear lever is accidentally moved to the DOWN position.
Students will disengage A/P and practice flying manually with F/D’s only during climb out.
In Cruise, students will practice the airwork exercises in accordance with training record FFS1. (Instructors must use
the FCTM as a guide when teaching the airwork exercises). Discuss pitch attitudes, thrust targets and primary
instrument indications.
o ACCEL to and DECEL from VMO/MMO. Demonstrate recovery from overspeed with partial speedbrakes and
discuss associated threats.
o EFFECTS of SPEEDBRAKES
o TURNS with and without spoilers
The purpose of this exercise is to highlight the effect that the spoilers have on the aircraft during
turns. Point out and note the different rate of roll with spoilers on and with spoilers off. Explain the
increased roll rate when turning with speedbrake deployed.
o STEEP Turns
While descending (Econ), instructor will demonstrate CWS operation in both PITCH and ROLL and demonstrate the
differences between using control column override and the MCP CWS engagement switch.
Note : Aircraft registrations EI-FIA and onwards are fitted with FCC software P8.0 and DO NOT
have the ability to automatically transition to Pitch and/or Roll CWS mode when the autopilot is
engaged by force override through the column or wheel.
The instructor will introduce TCAS to the students, demonstrating how traffic is represented on the ND. (Other
Traffic, Proximate Traffic). The instructor will proceed to insert a TRAFFIC ADVISORY, mentioning the correct
response from each pilot. Finally upon receiving a RESOLUTION ADVISORY, the students will perform a TCAS RA
manoeuvre.
Instructor will allow students to setup and brief for a CAT1 ILS approach. Assume landing performance calculations
complete.
Prior to commencing the approach at 2500ft, the instructor will perform the following Approach to Stall Recovery
exercises;
1. Level Off (flaps up)
2. Turning Base (flaps 5)
3. ILS Final Approach (flaps 30)
For further guidance on the Approach to Stall Recovery procedure refer to the Simulator Study Guide.
After completion of the ILS Final Approach Stall Recovery exercise, the instructor will provide radar vectors for an
autopilot flown CAT I ILS to land. Instructor will reposition for another Flap 5 takeoff. After takeoff practice hand
flying the aircraft with only the F/D’s engaged. Note pitch and thrust. Radar vector for return for F/D only ILS
approach to landing. Instructor will patter the approach and landing technique.
Review visual landing cues / transition from IFR to visual conditions, aiming point etc
Instructor will reposition for a Flap 1 takeoff. Discuss differences to Flap 5 takeoff.
Students will hand fly for return for another F/D only ILS to a landing.
The lesson is finished when the taxi-in and shutdown checklist are completed.

General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FF4)
Instructor will accomplish the pre-flight setup, engine start & taxi out. On entering the simulator, the aircraft will be
lined up on the runway in Stansted. Instructor will allow the students time to familiarise themselves with the SID and
all selections.
The first takeoff will be a RTO at low speed. Instructor will brief the students beforehand and ask them to ‘touchdrill’
their respective actions. After the RTO, re-position for a normal takeoff.
During the climb out, instructor will insert a Wheel Well Fire. Students will complete the respective NNC. Discuss and
clear fault.
At top of climb, students will practice High Altitude Approach to Stall Recovery and Mach Buffet. When demonstrating
Mach Buffet allow students to practice recovery from overspeed using partial speedbrakes.
Student will complete a Rapid Depressurisation and Emergency Descent. Instructor will allow them to ‘touchdrill’
their respective actions before executing the manoeuvre. Discuss, once levelled off, NNC completed, contact
correctly established with the Cabin Crew and clear fault.
Next exercise is the first Full Flight introduction to Engine Failure/Shutdown. Instructor will insert failure while
descending to illustrate how subtle a flameout can be. With one engine shutdown, the instructor will highlight what
additional FMC Information is available for One Engine INOP
Students complete the Engine Failure/Shutdown and One Engine Inoperative NNC’s and return for an A/P S/E ILS.
Instructor will ensure the students read the NNC correctly (in accordance with Study Guide guidance – QRH use,
Checklist Discipline and One Engine Inoperative Landing Checklist.). Instructors must emphasise at what stage
students should consult the Non-Normal Landing distance advisory information.
During the approach, students will observe pitch and thrust requirement. Students will practice One Engine
Inoperative Landing. Instructor may repeat if necessary.
Instructor will reposition for another takeoff. Instructor will insert Engine Severe Damage >V1 and emphasise correct
rotation, pitch & rudder input. (Instructors refer to Simulator Instructor Guide for correct rotation technique.)
Instructor may repeat as necessary. Instructor will ensure memory items are completed correctly. Students will read
the NNC and return for a F/D S/E ILS. Instructor must ensure students disconnect A/P before selecting Flaps 1.
After landing, the Instructor will clear all faults, reconfigure all the switches for normal flight and reposition to SZG,
in order to complete the Terrain Avoidance Manoeuvre.
1. QRH MAN – ILS Approach – One Engine Inoperative <RYR> correctly states that the gear down, flap 15 configuration
point is at one dot below glideslope. The one dot below glideslope configuration point is based on a particular set of
circumstances of groundspeed and altitude that may not be relevant to the approach being flown.
2. The glideslope should be captured from level flight. Minimise thrust lever movements to reduce asymmetry and
speed changes. Airplane configuration changes require little thrust change. Large thrust changes make airplane
control more difficult and are indicative of an unstable approach. Refer to Simulator Study Guide for guidance on
how to hold the thrust levers.
3. It is important to train Crews that PF has the discretion to alter the gear down and landing flap configuration point
based on any number of criteria and circumstances at the time, these may include ground speed / altitude / weather
conditions / crew experience etc.
4. Low Drag Approaches to 5nm or 4nm are not approved for one engine inoperative circumstances.

Study Airfield Brief
FF8 is the final simulator session before the Licence Skill Test (LST) and last progress assessment.
This session shall be conducted using LOS (Line Oriented Simulation) principles.
(Takeoff - Engine Failure - Return for S/E ILS, missed approach and return for S/E landing)
LOS training is conducted in as close to Line Oriented Flight Training as possible with the exception that the instructor
must intervene when necessary to ensure that the exercises are completed correctly and in a positive training
environment.
Keep in mind that this is nevertheless a training session. The instructor shall give feedback and instruction at the
appropriate times. FF8 must be used to build confidence and prepare the students for the LST.
Lesson objectives
Session conducted within the criteria specified for the progress assessment.
Practice and enforce all exercises contained in session.
Practice any identified weak areas or remaining repeat or deferred items.
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FF8)
Students will accomplish a “transit” pre-flight setup / engine start / taxi once. (The second student will start following
the break from engines running and at the takeoff runway holding point.)
After takeoff, instructor will fail a generator and introduce an APU Fire when the students start the APU as part of the
Source OFF NNC.
Instructor will allow the students to return for a VNAV NPA with a Circle to Land. Once on short final to the landing
runway, instructor will tell students to Go-Around (rejected landing due to blocked runway at 50’) and instruct them
to climb straight ahead and then provide vectors for a Raw Data ILS, which should be for a full stop landing.
Instructor will reposition to takeoff position.
After V1, instructor will insert Engine Fire/Severe Damage. Instructor will ensure students correctly complete all steps
in the correct order, including memory items, NNC (in accordance with study guide guidance – QRH use, checklist
discipline and One Engine Inoperative Landing Checklist), decision making and communication. Students will return
for a S/E F/D ILS, which will be to a Go-Around from DA. Instructor will provide radar vectors for return for a S/E ILS
and landing.
Instructor will clear faults and re-position to takeoff position.
Students will perform a RTO and Passenger Evacuation.
Lesson is finished when the Passenger Evacuation NNC is completed.

Your logbook - The examiner (SFE/TRE) will sign it if requested
Note: Ensure all personal data is completed on every page necessary in your training file. Complete the applicant details
of the LST Application Form and all personal data on every page. You must use black ink. If you are still waiting for an
IAA licence you must present the examiner with a letter (email) from the IAA stating either that you have commenced the
transfer of state process or that your license is ready to be picked up. Fill in the licence details of your current valid licence
in all places where it is requested. Sign/date the LST form after your check when directed by the examiner.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The examiner will start the briefing 1.5 hours in advance of the simulator time. As a minimum, the following items will
be discussed:
Overview of briefing items
Exercises to expect in simulator
IAA limitations
Role of the examiner
Please be present in the collection area of the FSTD building at least 1.5 hours before simulator time.
The examiner will provide all weather data, the loadsheet and the flight plan. Navigation charts will also be provided.
LST BRIEFING
Overview of the briefing and simulator contents
The examiner will explain the role of you the crew and the examiner.
The examiner may ask you to perform the following items in the briefing room (partly in order to save simulator
time):
- Takeoff Brief
- Approach briefings
- Normal landing distances
The examiner will discuss some of the skills test manoeuvres.
The examiner will explain the official IAA limitations and PM/PF responsibilities.
LIMITS
The following limits are for general guidance. The examiner shall make allowances for turbulent conditions and the
handling qualities and performance of the aeroplane.
Height / Altitude
In general + 100 feet / - 100 feet
Starting a go-around at DA + 50 feet / - 0 feet
Minimum descent height / altitude + 50 feet / - 0 feet
Tracking
On Radio Aids +/- 5 degrees
Precision approach ½ scale deflection localiser and glide path.
Heading
All engines operating +/- 5 degrees
With simulated engine failure +/- 10 degrees
Speed
All engines operating +/- 5 knots
With simulated engine failure + 10 knots / - 5 knots
Engine failure on take-off Company policy: V2 - V2+20kts
LIMITATIONS ON LANDING
A landing should not be attempted unless the runway threshold is crossed with the aircraft established at the correct height and
airspeed so as to touchdown within the prescribed touchdown zone and aligned with the centerline sufficiently to allow rapid
acquisition and maintenance of the runway centerline.
A smooth positively controlled transition from final approach to touchdown must be accomplished.
Positive directional control must be maintained and the correct use of spoilers, reverse thrust and wheel brakes must be
displayed in such a manner to bring the aircraft to a safe stop.
All items must be passed. Remember that you have conducted all these manoeuvres before in your training. There are no
tricks or surprises. It is very straight forward.
LST Preferred Sequence (However the examiner has discretion to change the order)
FAIL ITEM(S)
A failure in 5 or less items will result in a Partial Pass. A re-test of only those items is required.
A failure in more than 5 items is a Fail and the full LST must be re-taken.
A candidate may be required to have Additional Training prior to a re-test; this will be stated on the LST form.
Note: The LST assesses your performance both as PF & PM. A manoeuvre can be failed due to incorrect use of checklist.
Remember the PF is responsible for calling for the correct checklist and verifying that it is actioned correctly. PM
mishandling a QRH in a dangerous manner will cause a failure for the PM of that item.

Note: PSCT training must be scanned and signed off in TOPCLASS by the Instructor who certifies a successful
PSCT session.
The PSCT session will be approximately 1 hour per student. There are usually 4 students per session.
PSCT training will focus on obtaining consistency during the last 500ft of approach and landing. Students must be able to
demonstrate 3 approaches and landings in succession that achieve centre line tracking on final approach, accurate speed
control to touchdown and touchdown within the touchdown zone close to the centre line.
Lesson objectives
General guidance (lesson must be conducted in accordance with training record FFS PSCT-NG)
Instructor and Students must use the PSCT Notes published on Crewdock (under Instructor Notes or Trainee Notes) for
guidance on the conduct of this session.
20 blank loadsheets have been inserted in this section. Students are required to complete a
loadsheet for each session based on the details provided in each lesson plan in this document.
Completed loadsheets form part of each lessons preparation and planning, these must be
presented to the instructor at the beginning of the briefing.
It is acceptable for a crew to present a single loadsheet to the instructor; this must have been
completed as a result of a combined effort of the pair.
Instructor may defer the review of an incorrect loadsheet until the debriefing subject to time
available. If an incorrect loadsheet is presented the instructor shall provide the crew with a
correct master loadsheet for the session to be conducted.
Templates have been provided for each fixed and full flight simulator session. Students are
required to complete takeoff and landing performance calculations for each session based on the
details in each lesson plan. Students should use default landing weights from the session’s
respective loadsheet. Performance calculations form part of each lesson’s preparation and
planning; these must be presented to the instructor at the beginning of the briefing.
Students may refer to their calculations during the simulator session and assume in-flight landing
performance calculations have been completed. Care must be taken to adhere to the correct
sequences during the final CDU pre-flight procedure and DALTA.
Instructor may defer the review of takeoff and landing performance until the debriefing subject to
time available.
