Instruction: In not more than three paragraphs, write the story of your life prior to
becoming a student of Mindanao State University. Answer the
reflection questions below concisely.

Our sorrow in the past may lead us to a merrier present. I am Renz Lee Luy. I was
born 21 years ago on May 12. Most of the times of my youth I live it to the fullest. I even
have a motto that says “you only live once so enjoy your life while you can”. I love to play
basketball since I was young. I invested my time in honing my talent and skills. Practicing
made me an athlete in the schools that I am enrolling. As an extrovert person I love to
hang out with my friends and have some quality time. It makes me happy to go to other
places and travel. But despite of having a cheerful personality most of the time, I also
have my own ups and downs in life.

The adversities of my life started before I entered my college years. It feels like a
transition from my youth days to my adulthood. It is because I have to think what is ahead
of me and not just enjoy my moment. At first, I did not pass the entrance examination or
did not get the cut off scores. It is through this that I had to look for other schools. With
that I considered my greatest dream of all time, to become police. To become police, I
should try to enter in academy. However, I took the examinations and failed. I was
discourage to try again because they said my height did not meet the qualification. I
considered other universities in General Santos City and Davao City. But then again, I
remembered about the financial cost. It is why I enrolled myself in the college bound
program of the school but in the end, I got the course that at first, I have no knowledge
about.

The sadness and downfall that I felt in the pass made me realize that it gave me a
much more desirable present. I did not expect before that a time will come that I will love
another profession. I may not get into the course that it will make me police in the future
but I am surely satisfied now with my present course. I have realizations that the decision
and challenges that I face before made who I am today. A merrier Renz Lee Luy that will
always acknowledge the value of the experiences I have encountered in the journey of my
life, it may be from my past, present and what will happen in the future.
 Reflection Questions
1. How selective were you in the content of your answer today?

I am selective in the content of my answer in a way that I have included what I have
remembered that is significant happenings in my life. I have only included the important
events in my life prior of becoming a student in the Mindanao State University. Important
events in a way that it taught me something and gave me many realizations. I have also
considered the course description which is Readings in Philippine history. I have related
my past experiences of my life that are relevant up until the present with the history of
Philippines.

2. What are the similarities between your work and Philippine history?

The similarities between my work and the Philippines history are that it showcases
how the past happenings contribute to the present time. Without the events that I have
experience before, everything will also be different. It will result to something else and a
different story to tell. The Philippine history is also a great example of this. We would not
get our own independence with the colonizers of the country until now if the people in the
past did not sacrifice themselves. The people in the past and the things they have done
for our country is why we are now free from colonizers and we are not being dictated by
any other country. Without the history the present will also not occur or happen.
