TOPIC 1

THE NEED FOR CREATIVITY, THINKING SKILLS AND INVENTIONS

Many decades ago, Dr. Harold F. Holding warned that we are producing “critics rather than
artists, or poets or inventors in the broad sense of those magnificent words.”

20 YEARS AGO, Dr. Edward de Bono pointed out that “our educational system is primarily
concerned with developing information processing and analysis.”Today, these observations
remain valid.

Invention development is dependent on the creativity and thinking skills of inventors as well as
their ability to comprehend economic development and national industrialization.

This is one of the main reasons why we need to encourage creativeness and inventiveness
among the students and their mentors, and promote national industrialization by utilizing Filipino
inventions.

No country will be able to fully develop its national economy without the industrializing factors
created by the establishment of manufacturing industries which in turn is stimulated by invention
development and adaption of innovative technologies, from local and foreign sources.

Understanding creativity, thinking and invention are the predominant concepts behind creativity
training seminars. It is hoped that this “understanding” will lead to a deeper appreciation of the
need for creativity, thinking and invention for countryside development in particular, and national
economic progress in general. The purpose of providing thinking tools and techniques

is to fully train the human mind! Ultimately, the promotion of creativeness and inventiveness in
the school setting will make training the mind a full measure.

Harding emphasized that “creativity, originality, and inventiveness, are the prime requisites for
the crucial task of training the mind” to improve our creative abilities for planning, problem-
solving, decision-making, managing, and even learnin etc..to create new inventions for national
economic growth and progress, to improve our ability to turn ideas into action, and many other
reasons
