BUYING A CAR AND ACCIDENTS

INTRODUCTION
To the development of this activity, I guided myself with the unit one and two of the
module one; based on grammar about real conditions, simple past vs past continuous,
past perfect, advice and suggestion modal verbs and other things. Allowing to apply
different grammar structures and vocabulary to discuss in different activities like how to
buy a car, types of cars and causes of accidents.
All the following sentences have grammar mistakes. Try to find the mistakes. Rewrite the
sentences correctly and explain why the sentences are grammatically incorrect. There
could be more than one mistake in each sentence.
1. I was driven home when I hear the news.
Correction: I was driving home when I hear the news.
Explanation: the verb drive was in past participle.
2. They was exercising when they see the accident.
Correction: They were exercising when they saw the accident.
Explanation: The sentence is in past continuous.
3. I ll buy a new car if, I have enough money.
Correction: I will buy a new car if I have enough money-
Explanation: There was no apostrophe and there was no comma.
4. What are you doing last night at 11:00?
Correction: What were you doing last night at 11:00?
Explanation: The sentence is in past continuous.
5. You ought take him to the emergency room.
Correction: You ought to take him to the emergency room.
Explanation: Unlike other modal verbs, ought must always be paired with the word to
ought to.
6. The driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident should to stop immediately.
Correction: 6. The driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident should stop
immediately.
Explanation: Modal verbs (such as can, may, should, and will) are auxiliary verbs used to
express possibility, probability, or necessity. With few exceptions, these verbs are
followed by the root (bare infinitive) form of verb. The to-infinitive form is not used.
7. You could not want to talk about the accident.
Correction: You would not want to talk about the accident.
Explanation: Could and would are related, but they mean different things. Could expresses
possibility, while would expresses certainty and intent.
8. Let go to that mountain tomorrow!
Correction: Let’s go to that mountain tomorrow!
Explanation: the word let was wrong.
9. Because don’t you stop drinking?
Correction: Why don’t you stop drinking?
Explanation: While the word “why” is used to ask a question, the word “because” is used
to answer it.
10. We were walking outside when we see a car crash.
Correction: We were walking outside when we saw a car crash
Explanation: The sentence is in past continuous; the verb see must be in past.
11. He had being studying English for three years when he started this course.
Correction: He had been studying English for three years when he started this course.
Explanation: The verb “being” was incorrect.
12. I had working hard, so I felt very tired.
Correction: I had been working hard, so I felt very tired.
Explanation: The form of the past perfect continuous is had + been + verb-ing.
13. I had been dreamed of finding the perfect car for my family since 2010.
Correction: I had been dreaming of finding the perfect car for my family since 2010.
Explanation: The form of the past perfect continuous is had + been + verb-ing
14. If the weather improve, we went to the beach.
Correction: If the weather improves, we go to the beach.
Explanation: The subject and verb should agree in number. They should both be singular
(one), or they should both be plural (more than one); the verb went was wrong.
15. Robert will take a taxi if it rained.
Correction: Robert would take a taxi if it rained.
Explanation: When needed, modals should occur in the correct tense. They express
negation without use of another auxiliary.
16. If you drunk and driven, you could get into a car accident.
Correction: If you drink and drive you could get into a car accident.
Explanation: The verbs drunk and driven was wrong.
17. I am in the list, am not I?
Correction: I am in the list, I am not?
Explanation: If the main sentence is affirmative, the tag question is negative, the order of
the tag question was wrong.
18. He used to live here, isn’t he?
Correction:
Explanation: I do not see the mistake in this sentence.
19. Two days ago the streets is slippery because it been raining all night.
Correction: Two days ago, the street was slippery because it has been raining all night.
Explanation:
20. If you have be saving, you should has the down payment of 20% in cash.
Correction: If you have be saving, you should have the down payment of 20% in cash.

CONCLUSION
At the end of this activity I realized that this kind of activity are very productives because it
helps us to improve our grammar and vocabulary.
