The Butterfly (2003)

What about it?


The Butterfly is a drama and comedy French movie
directed by Philippe Muyl. It stars Michel Sarrault
as Julien and Claire Bouanich as Elsa. The film won
the audience award at the Jenjoun Film Festival,
celebrated in Asia.

The movie is set in France during the contemporary


era. It was filmed on location in France with some
scenes in the countryside.

What does it tell us?


The movie is about Julien, a widower who collects butterflies as a hobby, and Elsa, a
girl whose mother is never at home. A day after school, Elsa, whose mother forget
her, decides to visit Julien, who lives in an apartment in the same building. Julien
tells Elsa he’s looking for a stranger butterfly specimen called I​sabelle​, which stays
alive only for 72 hours. Elsa, very excited about the matter, wants to help Julien in
his search however he isn’t interested in sharing his time with Elsa. So she decided
to hide and sleep in Julien’s car the day before leaving. The next day, when Julien is
on his way to the countryside to search the I​sabelle​, Elsa suddenly appears by your
side and got angry. Some minutes before, he accepts to take her if she stays quiet,
without imagining that Elsa’s mother will go to the police late.

During the expedition, they learn together about different wildlife species and
spend time talking about their lives around a campfire. Unfortunately, they never
find the mysterious butterfly, so they decide to come back. On the last night of the
trip, Elsa falls into a hole. When police can find them, Elsa is rescued and returned
to her mother while Julien is arrested for kidnapping.
A few hours later, Julien is released and decides to go home, where
a package is waiting for him. The package contains a cocoon about
to open it, so he invites Elsa and her mother to enjoy that beautiful
event. From the cocoon comes a strange butterfly, the Isabelle.​

What do you recommend it?

I strongly recommend T​ he Butterfly​. It tells a beautiful and unconventional story


about friendship and an important message for parents. From my advice, The
Butterfly represents how people build special bonds. I'm sure I never will forget this
movie.

I recommend you to enjoy this beaitiful soundtrack!
