The Impact of New Normal to the Small Scale Gadget Store Owners in Tagaytay

ABSTRACT

Covid-19 pandemic have resulted in massive loss of lives and economic


disruption. In addition to its impact on public health, coronavirus disease 2019 has
caused a major economic shock, even on the small businesses. To explore the impact
of coronavirus disease on small businesses, the researchers focused on the impacts of
the new normal to small scale gadget store owners in Tagaytay in terms of demand,
pricing, profitability, market competition and business environment. Furthermore, the
purpose of this study is to identify the impact of this pandemic to the small scale gadget
store owners in Tagaytay and to elaborate what's the possible solution that can give
benefits for the small scale businesses gadget owners, future owners, and future
researchers. The researchers use descriptive research method since the research is
focused on the impacts of the new normal to small scale gadget store owners with the
use of convenience sampling technique. The researchers used a self-made
questionnaires in gathering the needed data, and utilized different statistical treatment
such as frequency and percentage for the demographic profile of the respondents, while
weighted mean score in analyzing and interpreting the collected data from the survey
questionnaire. These study revealed that majority of the respondents were located in
the Olivarez Plaza. Kala et al. (2010) has reported that the strategic location of the
domestic firms has assisted them in achieving a positive performance. In addition, the
researchers found out that the new normal had impacted the small scale gadget store
owners in the demand, pricing, profitability, market competition, and business
environment of the small scale gadget store owners. The market competition attained
the highest weighted mean of 3.07 while Profitability attained the lowest weighted mean
of 2.63. On the other hand, the new normal implemented mostly impacted the market
competition of the small scale gadget stores and the least impacted is the profitability in
terms of increasing the salary and wages of the store employees. In general, this study
proves that the new normal is impactful to small scale gadget store owners. Overall, the
results stated that the demand in the small scale gadget stores was impactful with an
average of 2.91 despite the implementation of the new normal. Finally, the researchers
recommend the small scale gadget store owners to highlight their best selling products
by getting the honest previews and ratings from their customers and posting it on their
social media platforms. In addition to this, giving freebies would be very useful in
promoting their business and will leave their customers a positive impact that may
encourage them to try other products that the store offers.
