BSN-II

I.

1. Intellectual Revolution

Refers to the Greek speculation about the "nature" in the period

before Socrates. This speculation is also called as "pre-socratic" or "non
theological" or even "first philosophy".

This speculation is characterized into three:

1. the world is a natural whole (supernatural things do not make "things"
happen);
2. there is a natural order (there are always laws of nature); and
3. humans can discover those laws.

2. Intellectual Thinkers

They are highly intelligent people/person who enjoys mental activities and
has a highly developed perception in art, literature and more.

3. Natural Selection Process

A process resulting in the survival of those individuals from a population of
animals or plants that are best adapted to the prevailing environmental
conditions. The survivors tend to produce more offspring than those less
well adapted, so that the composition of the population is changed

4. Ecology
Study of the relationships between human groups and their physical
environment.

5. Invasive Species
They are capable of causing extinctions of native plants and animals,
reducing biodiversity, competing with native organisms for limited
resources, and altering habitats causing ecological, environmental, and/or
economic damage.

1. How does ICT play an important role in innovation?

ICT plays an important role, notably by conducive to rapid

technological progress and productivity growth.

2. How does Technologies speed up the innovation process and make

faster diffusion of codified knowledge and ideas?

Innovation and technology are tightly interlaced. Two very notable

ways technology propels innovation forward is that it boosts tinkering and
experimentation, and that in itself accelerates innovation processes. Most
innovation is directly or indirectly driven by new technology even business
model innovation and changed consumer behaviors and the way new
technology transforms our world and various markets. In this way then,
an understanding of new technology and its impact is a prerequisite to be
able to innovate, and to do it constantly. Cognizance that the path of
technical development and diffusion is highly unpredictable, it is important
a balanced approach is taken in the formulation and implementation of
appropriate policies.

3. How do the invasive species affect the ecosystem?

Invasive species reduce biodiversity and cause large losses to key

crops – depleting the natural resources many people rely on for food, fuel
and medicines. The economic and social impacts of invasive species
consider both direct effects of a species on property values, agricultural
productivity, public utility operations, native fisheries, tourism, and
outdoor recreation, as well as costs associated with invasive species
control efforts.

4. Why were Darwin’s ideas so important in science and technology?

Charles Darwin put together the pieces, and his ideas have changed
human history and our perceptions of both nature and the history of the
world. He made people aware of life how humanity had evolved.

5. How influential are Fraud’s ideas in today’s society?

More important reason is that Freud gave people a new way of

thinking about why they acted the way they did. He created a whole new
way of interpreting behaviors: one could now claim that a person had
motives, desires, and beliefs–all buried in the unconscious–which they
knew nothing about but which nonetheless directly controlled and
motivated their conscious thought and behavior. This hypothesis, derived
from but independent of Freud's psychiatric work, was the truly radical
part of his system of thought.

6. React to the ff statements

a. The theory of evolution is pervasive in our present society

The theory of evolution has been seen by some people as incompatible
with religious beliefs, particularly those of Christianity. The first chapters
of the biblical book of Genesis describe God’s creation of the world, the
plants, the animals, and human beings. A literal interpretation of Genesis
seems incompatible with the gradual evolution of humans and other
organisms by natural processes. Independently of the biblical narrative,
the Christian beliefs in the immortality of the soul and in humans as
“created in the image of God” have appeared to many as contrary to the
evolutionary origin of humans from nonhuman animals.

b. Information Technology has great impact on society

Information technologies play a decisive role in education, health

system, politics, socially and economically. Information technology has
changed human life radically, and not necessarily, all of the changes are
positive. Some may be negative and have a detrimental effect on the
individual and the community.

c. The greatest civilization in Meso-America was the Maya civilization and

by far the longest lasting of all Meso-America civilization

Meso-american civilization developed by the Maya peoples are noted for

its logosyllabic script, the most sophisticated and highly
developed  art, architecture, mathematics, calendar, and astronomical syst
em. “Maya" is a modern term used to refer collectively to the various
peoples.Today, their descendants, known collectively as the Maya, number
well over million individuals, speak more than twenty-eight surviving
Mayan languages, and reside in nearly the same area as their ancestors.

d. Technology transformed society in Asian countries

The experience in Asia shows the attempt to use technological

innovations to overcome hurdles for social development in multiple
spheres, by the state, the market and the society. Despite of the
anticipation for technology innovations to work wonder, the outcomes are
far from being certain.

e. Catholic teachings were based on the theory that the universe was
Earth centered

The view that Earth was the center of the universe was important to
the Catholic Church because they believed that Jesus, the son of God, was
human and lived on Earth. Such an important person could only live in the
most important place, the center of the universe. It is important to note
that these religious leaders did not know that the universe is made up of
billions of galaxies. They thought that the solar system we live in was the
whole universe. So when they referred to the universe, they really meant
only our solar system.
