ABOUT BIOLOGIC

The Association of Biological Engineers of Mapua aims to be an organization conducted for scientific
and educational purposes and to advance and promulgate knowledge in all areas of the field of
Bioengineering by conducting research and other studies related to it. The Association is comprised of
Biological Engineering students, alumni, faculty and friends of the Department of Biological Engineering
of Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila, Philippines.

The Biological Engineering program (BS BE) of the Mapua Institute of Technology, a renowned
engineering university in the Philippines, is under the School of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry of
the Institute. The program, offered in 2008, is the first of its kind in the country. It houses a team of
professors and instructors specializing in different areas of bioengineering. Most of the faculty members
are either into research and development or practicing in the industry. Bioengineering is a multi-
disciplinary field that merges different areas of study by incorporating engineering principles to solve
problems in the life sciences and medicine. That is why the program curriculum is comprised of
different courses where the students learn the theoretical concepts of biosciences (e.g. molecular biology,
biotechnology, cell and tissue culture, etc.) and engineering (mechanics, thermodynamics, transport
phenomena, etc.).

12th Brotherhood of Medical Scholars (BMS) Pre-Medical Quiz Show (2011, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng
Maynila)

The Bioengineering students of MIT placed 2nd runner-up during the 12th Pre-Medical Quiz Show last
2011

Herald Award – Publicity of the Year (2012)

Biologic won the “Herald Award – Publicity of the Year” at the Council of Organizations’ ONE:
Organizations’ Night of Excellence held during the 87th Founding Anniversary of Mapua Institute of
Technology (January 2012).
