Many people consider that the prisoner should stayed in the jail more

longer to punish them in order to decrease crime rate. Others think that

there are alternative ways can reduce crime.

Today, more and more people think that the prisoner should be given

longer prison sentences. There is a high suicide rate among prisoner take

a long sentences. It is due to they are disappointed of their life and have

no fear of death. They will chose to die to make them relax. Also, long

term prison life leads to the lack of the social experience and working

abilities. They may not only difficult to live when they come out of the

prison but also they can not take care of themselves. This will lead to our

city population imbalances and they have no chance to start with a new

life.

However, I believe that alternative ways such as providing proper

education facilities and employment can solve the issues far more

effectively. Sufficient education and job opportunities keep the masses

busy and away from crimes. Society should provide employment

opportunities for everyone, let everyone in work as much as possible.

This can make the rate of the crime decrease. In my opinion, these

people can do some services to the whole community during their

imprisonment. The labour force from these criminals will be a great

contribution to the societies.

In conclusion, longer sentences will make potential criminals afraid of

going to prison and deter them from committing crimes. However, it

would be better to eradicate the root causes of crime by providing

education and employment opportunities.
