Background of the Study
The threat of pandemic, Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid 19 ) towards our global healthcare
system is unparalleled. It spread rapidly in to many countries which led to World Health
Organization (WHO) to declare it as a public health emergency on March 11,2020. Not only did it
brought great changes on the business, workforce, science, and health of the world but it also
brought educational disruption to the youth worldwide. According to the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), approximately 1.6 billion or 90% of
‘the world’s student populations have been at one point, during the pandemic out of the
classrooms due to a nationwide closure of schools and educational institutions, an effort by the
public health to minimize the rise and further spread of the Covid 19. This disruption is indeed
alarming and concerning since the children and youth are the drivers of change and the next
generation of scientists, doctors, lawyers, etcetera. (Kalmouni, 2020).
Despite this global education crisis, it would only serve as a challenge and learning can still
continue; governments and education stakeholders in developed countries have mollify the
challenges and setbacks associated with the closures of schools through implementing remote
learning by using various delivery channels (digital tools, TV or radio-based teaching and take-
home packages (Kalmouni, 2020). Print-based instructional materials have been more well known
or popular than any other medium for teaching skills for delivery of education and training via
distance learning. However, there can be no assurance with it’s effectiveness to drive the students
to understand completely the lessons (Dolor, 2010).
Here in the Philippines, the public schools reopened the classes last October 5, despite of a still
untamed corona virus outbreak in our country. Despite the calls to postpone the classes until
2021, the Department of Education (DepEd) remains with their stance that the education of
millions of Filipino students should not wait. To guarantee that learning remains unhampered, the
Department of Education implemented a distance learning approach — a learning delivery mode
where interaction takes place between the teachers and students who are geographically apart
from each other during instruction. This means lessons will be observed outside the traditional
face-to-face setup. Since, technology and internet connectivity still remains a problem for the
majority of the students, the DepEd provided printed module materials for them. (Magsambol,
2020) Education Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio declared that almost 13 million public
school students or 59% of approximately 22 million enrollees this year will be using printed
modules.
Now that the DepEd had overcome the challenges of modality of learning of the students, one
question still remains and that is the effectiveness of printed modular modality. Here in Quezon-
Panitian National Higschool, all students are under the printed modular modality. With that said,
the researcher decided to conduct a study in regards to that problem. This study is important as
it would help the educational institutions improve their methods of communicating learning
‘through the students and assess the factors that still needs to be addressed for the students to
have a satisfying and comfortable way of learning. Now, What is the level of effectiveness of the
printed modular modality to Grade 12 Senior High School Student at Quezon- Panitian National
Higschool?I.Statement of the Problem
The main purpose of this study is to determine the level of effectiveness of modular learning to the
senior high school students of Quezon- Panitian National Higschool for the Academic year: 2020-2021.
1. What is the level of effectiveness of printed modular modality to Senior High School Students of
Quezon Panitian National Highschool?
A. Excellent
B. Good
C. Average
D. Bad
2. Is there a significant difference to the level of effectiveness of learning of the students to:
B, Face-to-Face classes
Hypothesis
There is no significant difference in the level of effectiveness in the learning of students
A. Printed self learning modules
B, Face-to-Face classes
ILScope and Delimitation of the Study
This study is about the Effectiveness of the printed modular modality of Senior High School Students of
Quezon- Panitian National High Schoo! is limited to and focuses to the effectiveness of printed modular
modality of Senior High School Students. The respondents of the study were all students of Quezon-
Panitian National High School.WV, Significance of the Study
‘The reason why the researcher chose this particular research is to know how effective is the printed
modular modality in the education of the students especially at this time. In addition, this study is
‘relevant since majority of the students an public schools are using printed madular modality.
it may be relevant to the following individuals:
To the school principal, using the study, he/she will be made aware if the printed modular modality is
indeed effective. This study would alsa help them made any modifications if some things need to be
change.
To the teachers, this study will help them make adjustments and modifications If there is one and
continue the options that help students learn.
To the parents of the students, this study will help the parents understand the key components in the
printed rhadular modality used by the students and help their children in guiding them.
To the students, this study would help them assess whether the printed modular modality is effective
and let the teachers know if there’s. anything that should be added or reduced.
To the community, this study would help them know what other things are needed to be done and what
[programs or projects should be considered and conducted in order to help the students as well as their
future,
To the future researchers, may this research help and be of use to the future researchers and serve as a
‘reference for further study of the effectiveness of printed modular modality of the students.
