General Shop Safety Rules
Guidelines for Medical Emergencies

Injuries, no matter how small, must be reported to the Shop Manager immediately.
Anyone who is injured, other than small superficial cuts and abrasions, must be seen by a
medical professional as soon as possible.
1. Serious Injuries that Threaten Life or Limb.
a. Notify Shop Manager or Faculty In-charge!
b. Call Campus Clinic.
c. Request an ambulance, give location.
d. Describe the nature of the problem and stay on the phone.
e. If alone, watch for emergency personnel and guide them to the victim. Otherwise,
send someone.
2. Emergencies Which Might Need Professional Care.
a. Notify Shop Manager or Faculty In-charge!
b. Follow these procedures if you are unsure of the severity of an injury (broken vs.
sprained, etc…)
c. If transportation is available, take victim to nearest hospital or care center.
d. If transportation is not available, follow the procedures for “Serious Injuries” above.

3. Minor Emergencies Not Requiring Professional Care.


a. Notify Shop Manager or Faculty In-charge!
b. Provide appropriate first aid.
c. Help victim to rest comfortably.
d. Reassure victim and encourage them to seek additional care if necessary.
