PERSONAL STATEMENT

Hanoi 7th August, 2018

To whom it may concern,

My name is Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong and I would like to apply, firstly, to the Diploma in Business at
University of Wollongong International College, then the Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in
Accountancy at Sydney campus.

To become a successful student, I assume that I will have to make a remarkable effort. Having spent
twelve years studying in Vietnam, it is undeniable that I am used to the teaching method in my country.
However, I am always a flexible learning student so I don’t consider the new environment as my
hardship when I am in Australia. I may need time to catch up with my classmates and teachers since I am
not really used to listening to native speakers. About the assignment or tests, I will try my best to
accomplish and fulfil other requirements if necessary. Moreover, I know that if I am an International
student, studying is my priority.

When I was just a little girl, numbers and operations were more appealing to me than poem or art. I
reckon myself not a transcendent genius but I can make careful calculations, reduce as many mistakes as
possible. Because of this, the Accountant is said to be my best future job and I also enjoy calculating. My
father, who is running a private company, encourages me a lot to help me follow my dream. Choosing a
university with much reputation in the Business area, not only do I stand a chance of developing my
ability, but I also learn more about Accounting. After finishing the course, there will be opportunities for
me to find a job or simply work for my father when I return to Vietnam.

While searching for the proper university, I was very interested in the amazing campus and the support
that I can receive at Wollongong. I was also informed about the Diploma program in the university. I find
that the program is suitable for me. To the best of my knowledge, the Diploma program can provide
both theory and practice, which is basically different from Vietnam universities. Clearly, I have been
looking forward to this for a long time because I have always believed that practice is as important as
theory. Furthermore, the program is equivalent to the first year in university but less stress. This can
help me gradually understand the lecture and prepare myself for the differences in the next two years.
The program also saves time for me with only three-year studying period.

With the above reasons, I would like to become a student at University of Wollongong. I am looking
forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong
