THE KING 2
Medieval movies are available in different types. The King is one of the most popular
medieval movies of all time. The film is based on the relatively short rule of England’s King
Henry V. It also borrows alit from Shakespeare and other aspects of history. The result of the
production of the movie is a transformation on the medieval fare. At the beginning of the
movie, Henry Hotspur Percy happens to stir p trouble for the ever sickly and old Henry IV.
During this period, Young Prince Hal was enjoying life with Sir John Falstaff. Hal ascended
to power to clean up the position following the demise of Henry IV. Upon rising to power,
King Henry, declared that he was tired of civil war and all he wanted was a united England.
In their typical presentations, the French depicted the medieval period as giggling, greasy and
trash talking. Robert Pattinson happened to be at the forefront when it came to trash talking
considering her insults against Henry. On his part, Henry did not take it little as he decided to
declare war against him. The creators of the movie take the viewers through Agincourt and
then wind up the whole story with the imminent marriage of Henry to Catherine of Valois.
The accuracy of the movie makes it an ideal option for persons who want to learn
more about medievalism or the plays written by Shakespeare. The creators ensured that they
included several touch points in the movie so that they could make it as close as possible to
history. The creators spend a reasonable amount of time to explain the Battle of Agincourt. It
is, however, worth noting that the movie ended up veering off in a different direction just like
the Outlaw King with time as the battle progressed from one phase to another. It is essential
to note that whenever we click to watch a medieval movie, it needs to follow history as close
as possible but that was not the case this time round. The background details are more in
these movies as outlined. It appears as if creators of movies are working on costumes, props
and sets very well but they are not giving attention to the details as expected of them. There a
wide range of things in the movie that will impress you in the long run such as the baskets
used in the carting of firewood, ivory boxes, chairs and windup toys among others. The
THE KING 3
movie spends some time showcasing some of the graceful machines while they are in action.
On the flipside, the princess outfits were designed in a simple and plain manner thus making
them less thrilling to the audience. The clothes the character wore were plain right from
Henry’s sister’s coronation. It appeared like something odd considering everything about the
movie. The choice never paid a lot of attention to the characters in the movie. They were
only given barren reasons for their presence and it was possible to remove them without
seeing any difference on the same. Despite putting in much effort in the creation of the film, a
number of things did not work right for the creators of the same. The King also falls into a
trap of similar medieval films because its main character has room to continue brooding.
Henry V happened to be one of the most serious fellows after he took over power from his
predecessor. The fact that he never cracked a smile, made the entire medieval world to appear
In The King, a hero is persuaded to assume the position of the King just like the other
movies in the same genre. However, no evidence is provided to show that Henry had plans of
throwing away the crown for whatever reason. It is evident that he was happy after he got the
crown following the demise of his predecessor. In most of the medieval movies, it is not
possible to have the main characters comfortable with the monarchical rule the way it has
happened in this one. When Henry led his side to the battleground popularly known as the
Battle of Agincourt, the director happened to do an excellent job of ignoring all the common
features of war during the medieval period. The movie has a gory combat even as the
directors try to satisfy the different requirements that accompany most of the medieval
movies. The battle is not only brutal but also undignified, confused and muddy. The movie
has less bashing compared to the previous medieval film battles. The film was acted in the
favor of the swords and daggers after it is thrust into the different parts of the armour that
appear to be more vulnerable than anything else. It remains unclear why none of the
THE KING 4
characters took advantage of the unprotected backs of the legs. I must admit that it was not
about being too picky. The scenes of the war are not as entertaining as they ought to be, but
that is how the people killed each other in the movie. The movie failed to make things
glorious or beautiful. I also acknowledge the fact that every warmonger had at least specific
character haunting them and trying to establish what was transpiring at the battleground. One
of the aspects that deserve credit from the movie is the fact that the director ensured that the
Falstaff removed his helmet in the middle of the battle to enable the audience to his face
(Warner, 2017).
In conclusion, the production of the King left a big mark in the genre of medieval
movies. Henry V happens to encounter deceit, treachery and deceit. He ascends to power
following the death of his brother and he is determined to transform the lives of the people.
His leadership is characterized by endless war as he seeks to protect his territory. The creators
utilized all elements that define medieval films to give a story never experienced before in the
theatre industry. The operatic and ominous performances in the movie tell a different story
