 FOREWORD
First of all, thanks to Allah SWT because of the help of Allah, writer finished writing the
paper entitled “The Use of Methaphore” right in the calculated time.

The purpose in writing this paper is to fulfill the assignment that given by Mrs.Handayani as
a supervising teacher,

in arranging this paper, the writer trully get lots challenges and obstructions but with help of
many indiviuals, those obstructions could passed. writer also realized there are still many
mistakes in process of writing this paper.
First of all, thanks to Allah SWT because of the help of Allah, writer finished writing the
paper entitled “The Use of Methaphore” right in the calculated time.

The purpose in writing this paper is to fulfill the assignment that given by Mrs.Handayani as a

PRELIMINARY
A. BACKGROUND
English is increasingly being studied and used in Indonesia. People learn several
languages for a variety of reasons- commercial, social, scientific, educational and basically
simple as opposed to designing a course for a beginner who understands what he or she wants
with the language, and understands what is irrelevant to its purpose. English is a foreign
language that is widely studied by people in Indonesia. Some people in Indonesia believe that
English will help make their lives easier in finding work.
Generally, English language learners are people from elementary school to college
level. English lessons or courses cannot be separated from the influence of the Indonesian
language. Indonesian language cannot be separated from the process of learning English
because after all, English learners in Indonesia use Indonesian.
B. FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM

DISCUSSION

EITHER
This word is used after a negative verb.In addition,either is used to express an agreement with
a negative opinion.
In some cases,either is also used to indicate a choice of two options or propose two choice.
You can also use “EITHER” when you don’t have a choice from the two proposed options.
Either if encountered bye two choices it will be unuted with the word “or”.
EXAMPLE :
*Jerry is not in a good mood,and you are not,either.
*He did not write this article,and they dit not,either.
*I can not catch the chiken and she can not,either.
NEITHER
This vocabulary is used to give approval or agreement to negative statements.This vocabulary
is pladed before the positive word and followed by the verb before the subjeck.
In addition,neither is also used to reject two possibilities.Neither if faced with two choises it
will be combined with the word “nor”.
EXAMPLE :
*Aris is not playing basketball,and neither am I.

*They didn’t sweep this floor and neither did she.
*I can not swim in the ocean and neither can he.
NOT ONLY BUT ALSO
The conjunction not only,but also is used to connect two parallel clauses or sentences.Some
examples of the use of this conjunction are:she not only beautiful but also smart Maria is not
only a rich women,but also noble and kind women where she is involved in many charity
works.
If the word that is placed after this conjunction is singular,then the verb used must also be
singular pr singular.
Vice versa,if the word that is placed must be after a conjungction but is also a plural,the verb
used is also plural pr plural,for example:
*Not only Siska,but also her friend is beautiful.
*Not only Siska,but also her friend are beautiful.
If the word not only is followed by a subject,then after the word but also must be followed by
a subject.Here is an example:
When writing an article, consider not only the topic of the article but also the audience who
will read it.He can play not only soccer and softball but also tennis and badminton as
well.Miss Ann taught.not only Algebra and Arithmatica, but also Geometry and Physics.
The basic principle of using conjunction not only but also follos!!
1.Adjective + Adjective
Example: Siska is not only beautiful but also have sense of humour.
2.Naon + Naon
Example: He don’t like not only coffee but also tea’
3.Verb + Verb
Example: My mother has loth of thing to do,not only cooking but also cleaning the house.
4.Clause + Clause
Not only: Lila will goes study fot her bachelor degree but also she will have a vacation in
Europa.
5.Adverb + Adverb
My Father work not only in the mill but also in the farm.
