Jamie Lee Curtis wakes
up brimming with
energy. “I have so much
on my mind,” explains
the star. “I’m just so
crazy excited and creative right now.
And I don’t want to squander any of it.”
At 62, Jamie Lee is busier than ever.
Since the beginning of the pandemic,
she’s launched her own production
company, Comet Pictures, as well as
two podcasts — Letters From Camp
and Good Friend. “And that’s just the
beginning of that creative work,” Jamie
Lee enthuses. “Things are up and
running and really fun.” The actress
credits her 22 years of sobriety to her
positive outlook. “The process of being
a sober person puts you in the one-day-
at-a-time mentality,” she says. “Try to
forget about the past, because you can’t
do anything about it anyway. And try to
live a present life.”

IT’S NO JOKE. On Aug. 2, comedian
Kathy Griffin announced via
Instagram she’d been diagnosed
with stage 1 lung cancer and would
undergo surgery to have half of
her left lung removed. “Yes, I have
lung cancer even though I’ve never
smoked!” shared Kathy, 60. A day
after going public with the news,
she posted an update saying the
surgery went well. “Hopefully no
chemo or radiation after this,” said
the My Life on the D-List star. “I
should be up and running around
as usual in a month or less.” This
isn’t the only health battle Kathy’s
faced recently. She’s also overcome
a pill addiction that led to suicidal
thoughts. “The irony is not lost
on me that, a little over a year ago,
all I wanted to do was die,” says
Kathy, who married her longtime
boyfriend, Randy Bick, in 2020.
“And now, all I want to do is live.”

FOREVER YOUNG
SECRETS FOR
PREVENTING DISEASE RATHER THAN
TREATING IT COULD BE THE BEST WAY
TO HAVE A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE!
EAT WELL: It’s obvious, but diet is crucial. According to
Harvard Medical School, feast on “vegetables, fruits,
nuts, whole grains, healthy fats and omega-3 fatty acids”
and avoid “red and processed meats, sugar-sweetened
beverages, trans fat and sodium.”
GET MOVING: Exercise is also important— but consis-
tent movement is better than a gym membership. Says
National Geographic fellow Dan Buettner, the oldest
living people “tend to walk to school or work, have gar-
dens out back and clean their own homes... Centenarians
get some sort of movement every 20 minutes or so.”
Bicycling, dancing and tai chi can also do wonders.
AT EASE: Buettner also says the world’s oldest people
“have routines to shed stress,” such as taking a nap.
“In fact, our research found that taking naps lowers heart
disease by about one third.” If naps aren’t practical for
you, daily meditation helps as well.
GOOD MINDSET: According to Daniel Kennedy, producer
of the docu-series Healthy Long Life, it’s important to live
in the moment. “[Many of the elderly adults I met] don’t
focus on yesterday or tomorrow, they focus on today,” he
says. They also benefitted from a close-knit family and
close ties to their community. Being alone is never good.
ALL IN MODERATION: Limit your
alcohol intake. Per the dietary
guidelines of the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services, “mod-
erate drinking” is one drink for
women per day and two for men.
