TESLA START PROGRAM

AT MDC

GUIDE FOR ADVISORS

Miami Dade College and Tesla have


partnered to offer Tesla START, a 15-
week technical training program, at the
School of Engineering and Technology,
West Campus. The program provides
students with the technical expertise
and certification necessary for job
placement as Service Technicians at
Tesla Service Centers.
Upon successful completion of the
program, graduates are eligible for full-
time employment with Tesla at one of
their service locations across the
country, including South Florida. Tesla
will work with students to place them in
their preferred Service Center with a
competitive regional salary.

Frequently Asked Questions
• What is Tesla START? It is a 15-week technical training program that will provide students with
the necessary skills for job placement as Tesla Service technicians.
• How will training be conducted? Students will develop technical expertise and earn certifications
through a blended approach of in-class theory, hands-on labs and self-paced learning. Tesla
START is offered in person by a Tesla/MDC instructor.
• Student’s time commitment? The program requires full commitment from students. Students
should plan to attend classes, hands-on activities and study hours every day from early morning
to the evening. Some weekend participation will be required, possibly including Sundays.
• Student support while attending the program? Students will receive a stipend for the hours
dedicated to the program at rates comparable to 1 dollar above minimum wage
• Job opportunities? Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible for full-
time employment with Tesla at one of their service locations across the country, including South
Florida. Employees will earn a competitive regional salary. Tesla will work with students to place
them in their preferred Service Center and assist with relocation.
• Program requirements?
o Valid driver’s license
o High School Diploma OR GED, post-secondary automotive education level
o Legal authorization to work in the United States
o Past automotive repair experience, or other technical experience (aviation, mechanical,
electrical) is highly recommended
• How many students will be accepted? Twelve to sixteen by cohort, three cohorts per year.
• What are the required tools? Tesla provides the tools, equipment and educational content
required to be a successful student at the Tesla START program.
• How to apply? Application to the program is already open via MDC Tesla START’s website:
mdc.edu/Tesla. Applications can be sent throughout the year.
• Can current MDC students apply? Students already enrolled at MDC can apply.
• How much does it cost? This is a 26.7 credit program.

• Financial Aid? Financial aid is available.
• Can international students apply? International students who want to apply must have
permission to work in the United States to be accepted.
• When are the selected students going to be announced? Closer to the opening of the program.
