THE LAST 10 DAYS OF RAMADAN

Route to Jannah

Do you know that if observed right, sawm ramadan is an express ticket to jannah ? Oh yes!
Jannah!

Sahl ibn Sa’d (‫ )رضي هللا عنه‬reported:

The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “Verily, there is a gate in Paradise called al-Rayyan, through which
only those who fasted will enter on the Day of Resurrection. No one else will enter it along
with them. It will be said: Where are those who fasted that they may enter ? When the last of
them enter, it will be closed and no one else will go through it.”

Allaah(‫ )ﷻ‬has given us this blissful month of Ramadan as his mercy upon us to seek
repentance, forgiveness, mercies, blessings and upliftment from Allaah (‫)ﷻ‬, enjoin good,
desist from bad, be cleansed of our sins and eased of our troubles. It's a time where Allaah
(‫ )ﷻ‬chains shaytaan and shayaateen just so there won't be an obstruction of worship and
submission between Himself and his servants. Bad deeds are cleared and good deeds are
rewarded in folds.

"The month of Ramadan (is the month) in which the Qur’an has been sent down as guidance
for mankind containing clear signs which lead (to the straight road) and distinguishing (the
truth from falsehood).." [Surah Al Baqarah 2:185].

The Holy month of Ramadan is the period where the Holy Qur'an was revealed to our
beloved prophet Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬

Allah (‫ )ﷻ‬said :

‫ِإ َّنٓا َأ ْن َز ْل ٰن ُه فِى َل ْي َل ِة ْال َق ْد ِر‬

"Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree."
[Surah Al Qadr 97:1]

The significance of this month cannot be overemphasized but barakah of the last 10 nights
of the month are even double the previous days.
Even better is the particular night called LAYLATUL QADR
Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree or Night of Power, is one of the most sacred nights in the
Islamic calendar. It is the night in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet
Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬.

It is also believed to be the night in which Allaah (‫ )ﷻ‬shows great mercy to His creation and
the night in which one’s fate is decreed.

Allah (‫ )ﷻ‬said:

‫َل ْي َل ُة ْال َق ْد ِر َخ ْي ٌر مِّنْ َأ ْلفِ َشه ٍْر‬

"The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months."
[ Surah Al-Qadr 97:3]

Aisha (‫ )رضي هللا عنه‬reported: The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “Search for the Night of
Decree in the odd nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th) among the last ten nights of
Ramadan.”

Anas ibn Malik (‫ )رضي هللا عنه‬reported: The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said when the month of Ramadan
began, “Verily, this month has presented itself to you. There is a night within it that is better
than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of it has been deprived of all good. None is
deprived of its good but that he is truly deprived.”

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani

Now with the significance of this night being stated, How do we prepare for it? How do we
utilize and achieve the all of the blessings and bliss of this night ? How do we please Allaah
(‫ )ﷻ‬during the last 10days of ramadan and ultimately attain jannah?

Let the following tips guide us.

● Eat light.
● Sleep early.
● Observe I'itikaf
● Read or listen to the Qur'an.
● Read the translations of the Qur'an so as to Digest, understand and make use of the
messages passed.
● Cut off unnecessary distractions e.g tv and social media.
● Increase in sadaqah, dhikr, dua'a and good deeds.
● Observe Qiyaam.
● Maintain ties of kinship.
● Make a list of your needs in this dunya and the hereafter and sincerely ask Allaah(‫)ﷻ‬
for them.
● Avoid minor sins e.g Backbiting, Flirting, Indecency.
● Avoid strenuous/unnecessary activities and stock up on household items and
foodstuff (if you have the means).
● If you are among those who are exempted from fasting, you have as much chances
to earn blessings too. You can do all a fasting person does except if you are not
purified. (There are acts of worships the none purified can do too e.g dhikr and
charity)
● Make tawbah and submit yourself to Allaah (‫)ﷻ‬, adopt good behaviour and deeds,
carry out your Islamic obligations, double up on acts of charity, feed the needy and
less privileged.
● Have Imaan, Tawakkul, Khushoo and Make the best out of this Ramadan, it may be
your last.

When Aisha (‫ )رضي هللا عنه‬asked the Prophet (‫“ )ﷺ‬O Messenger of Allah, if it is Laylatul
Qadr, then what should I supplicate with?” Rasool (‫ )ﷺ‬replied with the famous dua:
“Allahumma, innaka Afuwwun Karimun, tuḥibbu al-afwa fa‘afu anna”
“O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning and Generous; You love to pardon, so pardon us.”

May Allaah accept our fasts as acts of Ibādah.
