B. Motivation
The teacher will let the students watch a video presentation about How to Write a
Business Plan
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdDR3zzEdks

Guide Question:
1. What are your insights upon watching the video?
Yes, very good, that’s correct. So developing a business plan requires
a lot of time, effort, and planning. In fact, the business plan will be an
essential tool throughout the life of your business – from starting up to
crashing in. So this afternoon, we will be discussing the main parts of a
business plan.

C. Discussion
Introduction

● Problem/Need
Social innovation and social entrepreneurship is about creating new paradigms and
new ways of addressing old social problems. Social innovation has to do with impact,
and it has to do with scale.  These are new ways of seeing problems as opportunities, of
seeing how to look at the same problem from a different perspective, and bringing light
to a solution that may be right there. Pick the biggest problem. There’s a good chance
that your product solves multiple problems

A pandemic like COVID-19 has adverse effects on the economy and development of
businesses. However, innovators and entrepreneurs who think outside the box can help
develop the technologies and solutions that will have a lasting and positive impact.

Example:
Problem: Food spoiling.

Opportunity: Refrigeration.
Refrigeration is such a simple luxury, yet the problem of keeping your food from
spoiling solved a real problem and changed the world.

● Statement of Vision, Mission, and Values

Your business plan should include your vision, mission and values statements.
These important elements will help you describe the personality and goals of your
business to investors or lenders, potential partners and employees. These statements
usually stay the same over the life of your business. They can help guide decisions and
shape your business as it grows.

The Vision Statement

A vision statement is a statement of an organization’s overarching aspirations of
what it hopes to achieve or to become. Here are some examples of vision statements:
● Disney: To make people happy
● IKEA: To create a better everyday life for the many people
● Avon: To be the company that best understands and satisfies the product,
service and self-fulfillment needs of women—globally
● Jollibee: To be the dominant number 1 in branded eat-out in the Philippines
● 7/11: Our vision is to be the best retailer of convenience for emerging markets.
● Apple Inc.: To make the best products on earth, and to leave the world better
than we found it.
● PLDT: Lead and inspire Filipinos to create a better tomorrow
● GLOBE: We see a Philippines where families' dreams come true, businesses
flourish, and the nation is admired.
● REBISCO: To be a well-loved food company, built on family values that provides
delightful meals for everyone, while leaving a positive impact on our community.

Disney’s vision statement is “To make people happy.”

The vision statement does not provide specific targets. Notice that each of the
above examples could apply to many different organizations. Instead, the vision is a
broad description of the value an organization provides. It is a visual image of what the
organization is trying to produce or become. It should inspire people and motivate them
to want to be part of and contribute to the organization. Vision statements should be
clear and concise, usually not longer than a short paragraph.

The Mission Statement

The vision statement and mission statement are often confused, and many
companies use the terms interchangeably. However, they each have a different
purpose. The vision statement describes where the organization wants to be in the
future; the mission statement describes what the organization needs to do now to
achieve the vision. The vision and mission statements must support each other, but the
mission statement is more specific. It defines how the organization will be different from
other organizations in its industry. Here are examples of mission statements from
successful businesses:

● Nestle Philippines: Make better food so that people live a better life
● Jollibee: To serve great tasting food, bringing the joy of eating to everyone
● 7/11: To make daily life easier by providing modern convenience.
● Apple Inc.: To bring the best personal computing products and support to
students, educators, designers, scientists, engineers, businesspersons and
consumers in over 140 countries around the world.
● PLDT: Empower Filipinos everywhere with customer-focused digital innovations
that unlock and share their infinite potential.
● GLOBE: We create wonderful experiences for people to have choices, overcome
challenges, and discover new ways to enjoy life.
● REBISCO: Explore and enter new markets to build and intensify our business.
Innovate our products and services to meet the dynamic needs of
consumers. Ensure availability of our products in all channels of
distribution

Notice that each of these examples indicates where the organization will
compete (what industry it is in) and how it will compete (what it will do to be different
from other organizations). The mission statement conveys to stakeholders why the
organization exists. It explains how it creates value for the market or the larger
community.

Because it is more specific, the mission statement is more actionable than the
vision statement. The mission statement leads to strategic goals. Strategic goals are

the broad goals the organization will try to achieve. By describing why the organization
exists, and where and how it will compete, the mission statement allows leaders to
define a coherent set of goals that fit together to support the mission.

The Values Statement

The values statement, also called the code of ethics, differs from both the
vision and mission statements. The vision and mission state where the organization is
going (vision) and what it will do to get there (mission). They direct the efforts of people
in the organization toward common goals. The values statement defines what the
organization believes in and how people in the organization are expected to behave—
with each other, with customers and suppliers, and with other stakeholders. It provides
a moral direction for the organization that guides decision making and establishes a
standard for assessing actions. It also provides a standard for employees to judge
violations.

● Marketing Plan
The marketing plan section of the business plan explains how you're going to get
your customers to buy your products or services. The marketing plan, then, will include
sections detailing your:
● Products and services
● Pricing strategy
● Sales and distribution plan
● Advertising and promotions plan

Products and Services

Focus on the uniqueness of your product or service and how the customer will
benefit from what you're offering. Use these questions to write a paragraph summarizing
these aspects for your marketing plan:
● What are the features of your product or service?
● Describe the physical attributes of your product or service and any other relevant
features such as what it does or how it differs from competitors' offerings.
● How will your product or service benefit the customer?
● Remember that benefits can be intangible as well as tangible; for instance, if
you're selling a cleaning product, your customers will benefit by having a cleaner
house, but they may also benefit by enjoying better health. Brainstorm as many

benefits as possible to begin with, then choose to emphasize the benefits that
your targeted customers will most appreciate in your marketing plan.

Pricing and Positioning Strategy

The pricing strategy portion of the marketing plan involves determining how you
will price your product or service. The price you charge has to be competitive but still
allow you to make a reasonable profit.
Being reasonable is key—you can charge any price you want to, but for every
product or service there's a limit to how much the consumer is willing to pay. Your
pricing strategy needs to take this consumer threshold into account.
The most common question small business people have about the pricing
strategy section of the marketing plan is, "How do you know what price to charge?"
Basically, you set your pricing through a process of calculating your costs, estimating
the benefits to consumers, and comparing your products, services, and prices to others
that are similar.

Sales and Distribution Plan

Remember, the primary goal of the marketing plan is to get people to buy your
products or services. Here's where you detail how this is going to happen.
There are usually three parts to the sales and distribution section:
Distribution Methods
● How is your product or service going to get to the customer? Will you distribute
your product or service through a website, through the mail, through sales
representatives, home delivery, or through retail?
Transaction Process
● What system will be used for processing orders, shipping, and billing?
● What methods of payment will customers be able to use?
● What credit terms will customers be offered? If you will offer discounts for early
payment or impose penalties for late payment, they should be mentioned in this
part of your marketing plan.
● What is your return policy?
● What warranties will the customer be offered? Describe these or any other
service guarantees.
● Is there a system for customer feedback so customer satisfaction (or the lack of
it) can be tracked and addressed?
Sales Strategy
● Describe your expectations of these salespeople and how sales effectiveness will
be measured.
● Will a sales training program be offered? If so, describe it in this section of the
marketing plan.

Website: www.cnu.edu.ph

● Describe the incentives salespeople will be offered to encourage their

achievements (such as getting new accounts, the most orders, etc.).

Advertising and Promotion Plan

Essentially the advertising and promotion section of the marketing plan describes
how you're going to deliver your USP to your prospective customers. While there are
literally thousands of different promotion avenues available to you, what distinguishes a
successful plan from an unsuccessful one is the focus—and that's what your USP
provides.

● Advertising
The best approach to advertising is to think of it in terms of media—specifically, which
media will be most effective in reaching your target market. Then you can make
decisions about how much of your annual advertising budget you're going to spend on
each medium.
● Marketing Materials
Every business will include some of these in its promotion plans. The most common
marketing material is the business card, but brochures, pamphlets, and service sheets
are also popular.
● Publicity
This is another avenue of promotion that every business should use. Describe how you
plan to generate publicity.
● Your Business's Website
If your business has or will have a website and a business Facebook page, describe
how these fit into your advertising and promotion plan.
