HUMAN VARIATION is the range of possible values for any characteristic, physical or
mental of human being.

Environment and history are two of the primary factors that shape
the behavior of human groups. This behavior, which serves as an
adaptive tool for the varied stimuli projected by the environment, is
influenced by beliefs, practices and material possessions. Through
constant practices, these sets of behavior from human traditions,
which are passed on from one generation to the other.

As each human group experiences differing environmental conditions,


Cultural variations are established.

NATIONALITY is the identity that is tied to being part of a nation or country.
 A group of people who share the same history, traditions and languages.
 Nationality can be acquired by being born in a country or by process of legal
application called naturalization.
Ex. If one is born in the Philippines, he or she is called a Filipino citizen.

ETHNICITY is a smaller cultural groups that share specific environments, traditions,


and histories that are not necessarily subscribed to by the main stream culture, usually
speaks the same dialect and worship the same deities

ACTIVITY II

Answer the following question.


1. Your parents cultural background (ex. Visayan, Ilocano)
2. The language and dialects that you can speak.
3. Your nationality (ex. Chinese, American)

After answering, summarize in two paragraph your similarities and

GENDER AND SEX.

GENDER refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviours, activities and attributes that a
given society considers appropriate for men and women.

SEX which refers to the biological characteristic of humans such as male or female.

Types of Gender Definitions


Heterosexual A person with this gender is inclined to be
sexually attracted to a person of the opposite
sex.
Homosexual A person is sexually attracted to a person of
the same sex, he or she is homosexual.
Lesbian A female who is romantically attracted to
another female is considered a lesbian.
Bisexual These are individuals who are attracted to
both sexes, which makes them bisexual.
Asexual These people who are totally incapable of
being attracted to any sexes.
Polysexual Individuals who are attracted to multiple types
of gender identity.
Pansexual These are individual who accommodate all
types of gender.
Transgender There are people whose gender identities do
not match their biological identity as male or
female. These people identify themselves as
transgender.
Gay A male who is romantically and sexually
attracted to another male is called gay.

 The concept of socioeconomics class varies between societies as the ideas associated
with being poor or rich differ based on the collective experiences of individual.
 The typical determinants of one’s social status include income, value of assets and
savings, cultural interests and hobbies, economic status of his or her peers and
relatives.
 In the Philippines , our indicators of social class are different, given the economic
And political context in which our country is in.
 Hence, when you ask a Filipino what his or her social classis,

 Political identity as a social category refers to the set of attitude and practices that an
individual adheres to in relation to the political system and actors within his or her

 Political parties in the Philippines such as Ladlad Partylist that negotiates for the
welfare of the LGBTQI community, Kabataan Partylist that promotes youth
empowerment, are examples of how sector in our society use their identities as political
vehichels to negotiate their needs.

RELIGION
 The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God
or gods.
 A particular system of faith and worship.
 A pursuit or interest followed with great devotion.

Two (2) types of religion


 Monotheistic believing in the existence of one god.
 Polytheistic believing in the existence of multiple gods.

EXCEPTIONALITY AND NON-EXCEPTIONALITY

 Some individuals do not conform to behavioural or cognitive norms, not because they
intend to deviate from such, but because they are exceptionality.
 The concept of exceptionality leans on the non-average individual.
