DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE GREADE 10

I. Objectives
Content standard:

How gases behave based on the motion and relative distance between gas
particles.

Learning Competencies:

At the end of the 60-minute period 100% of the students must be able to the
following with at least 85% level of success.

a. Investigate the relationship of volume and pressure


b. Calculate the sample problem under Boyle's law
c. Actively participate in class discussion

Materials: PowerPoint, gas simulator and chart
Reference: Science learner's material pp. 366-368; Science teachers guide pp.
265-267 and www.youtube.com/TylerDewitt

III. Procedure
A. Pre-Developmental Activities

1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Motivation
-The teacher will show a gas simulator to the class and manipulate
it and ask the class what they can observe to the simulator as the
teachers inject a gas at a constant temperature.
B. Developmental Activities :
1. Introduction of the Lesson
- The teacher will introduce the lesson through the
motivation which is the gas simulator and from the answers of the
students.

2. Guide Questions:
2.1. What is Boyles Law?
2.2. Determine the difference between volume and pressure.
2.3. How is the change of pressure affects the volume of a gas.
C. Post- Developmental Activities:
1. Board Drill
Directions: Solve the following problem and encircle your final answer.
1.1 : A scuba diver needs a diving tank in order to provide breathing while he
is underwater. How much pressure is needed for 6.00 liters of gas at 1.01
atm to be compressed in a 3.00 liter cylinder?
1.2: A container holds 500 mL of CO2 with a pressure of 742 torr. What will be
the volume of the CO2 if the pressure is increased to 795 torr?

2. Generalization

- Boyle’s Law stated that at a constant temperature, volume and pressure inversely
proportional. Volume is the space occupied by the gas per unit area while the
pressure is a forced exerted by a gas. Temperature is the measure of hotness and
absence of heat. If the pressure of the gas goes up the volume must go down, vice
versa. The proponent of this law is Robert Boyle who trapped mercury in a J-Tube.

IV. Evaluation
PROBLEM SOLVING
Directions: Read and analyze the following problem. Follow the procedure in
problem solving. Write your answer on a ½ crosswise.

1. A balloon contains 7.2 L of helium. The pressure is reduced to 2.00 atm and
the balloon expands to occupy a volume of 25.1 L. What was the initial
pressure exerted on the balloon?
2. A sample of gas has an initial pressure of 722 torr and an initial volume of 88.8
ml. Its volume changes to 0.663 L. What is the new pressure?

V. Assignment
Directions: Answer the following problem and write your answer in your science
notebook.

1. A gas occupies 1.56 L at 1.00 atm. What will be the volume of this gas if the
pressure becomes 3.00 atm?
2. A particular balloon is designed by its manufacturer to be inflated to a volume
of no more than 2.5 liters. If the balloon is filled with 2.0 liters of helium at sea
level (101.3 kPa), and rises to an altitude at which the boiling temperature of
water is only 88 degrees Celsius, will the balloon burst?
3. Search and study about Charles Law.
