1. What distinguishes listening from hearing?
Listening is retaining information and a learning process and hearing is listening without
learning.

2. What are some benefits for you personally from effective listening?
Understanding information, having better knowledge, having better retention of data
heard, more effective learning, active communication, better relationships.

3. Name and give an example of each of the three a's of active listening.
Attitude: negative: interrupting the person who is talking to you or giving you
information.
Attention: Listening to a song and feeling the lyrics with emotions.
Adjustment: Thinking about something else while another person is talking to you.

4. Identify the three main barries to listening, Wich of these barries is most problematic for
you? Want can you about it?
Anticipating, judging, reacting emotionally. For us the most problematic is judging
because you base your perception on your intentions, experiences without knowing the
true reality of the sender. It can be solved by effective listening and not anticipating on
appearances.

5. What does an effective listener do with the extra thought process time while a speaker
is speaking only 150 words-per-minute?
An effective listener makes a reminder and takes notes of key words and important
information.

6. How can you communicate non-verbally that you are listening?


Gestures, dress, posture, eye contact, cues.

7. What are some considerations in offering constructive feedback?


Being constructive with your criticism and not being hurtful, reinforcing key points of
listening obstacles, coming up with new ideas.

8. What are strategies that help hold your listeners' attention during your speech?
Icebreaker questions, experiences, jokes, tone of voice, not reading, non-verbal, little
information.
