If grocery shopping bores you, then just take a look around

I
t isn’t any secret that I
love the people watch-
ing game, as it is always
interesting to watch the
unique things that all of us
do in certain situations of
everyday life.
This past weekend I
went out to get some food
at the grocery store and
it was fun to watch some
of the more interesting
things that were taking
place around me. It actually
started out in the parking
lot before ever setting foot
inside the store when I
noticed what I like to refer
to as the “parking lot snug-
gler.”
What this consists of
is someone who has a nice
car who makes a specific
point of parking it out in
“left field” in the parking
lot about 40 yards from the
nearest car to avoid those
pesky little door dents.
However, it never seems to
fail that the world’s biggest
clunker comes driving up
every time and “snuggles
on up” in the next parking
spot about two inches away.
The clunker driver does
that even though there are
100 empty parking spaces
between them and the
store.
What you also see in
the parking lot is what I
refer to as the “torpedo
shoppers.” These are the
people who refuse to walk
five feet to put their cart
in the cart corral. With the
unbelievable strong winds
we had the past few weeks,
it turns those loose carts
into torpedoes. I am will-
ing to bet that parked cars
in those lots have received
more direct hits in the last
few weeks than the entire

they have hopes it will be a
long and prosperous rela-
tionship.
“We are looking for
some healthy loads out
of here, and the advance
bookings are looking
good,” said Westgate. “So,
I think it is going to be fan-
tastic and it is going to be
a good way to get into this
part of the world, and the
beautiful aspects you have
to offer on the West Coast
of Michigan.”
The Frontier executive
said that the accommo-
dations at the Manistee
County Blacker Airport
are a perfect fit for what
they were looking for in a
terminal. He added that
customers are going to
see reliable service out of
Manistee than what they
have received in the past.
“It is a delightful termi-
nal, and now we will have
some nice shiny jet aircraft
to fill it,” said Westgate.
“Our plan is to offer than
our predecessor, in part
because we have a spare
aircraft in Milwaukee so
should there be any issues
with our aircraft assigned
to the trip we will be able
to get another one here.
Westgate said that
Frontier is looking to build
a strong association with
the Manistee community.
He said that he met with
many members of the
business community on
Monday morning to dis-
cuss any concerns or issues
they might have with the
air service.
“We are trying to
partner with many areas
in the community,” said
Westgate. “This morning
we talked with some of the
businesses and our goal
is to put Manistee on the
map.”
Airport Authority chair
Ervin Kowalski said it was
a long process, but the
final result was well worth
the wait.
“We have been very
patient, but we are very
satisfied, and I think
this is the greatest,” said
Kowalski. “I know a lot of
my family is going to be
flying out of here in the
next few weeks.”
Fellow airport author-
ity member Ross Spencer
agreed that the day was
momentous for more than
the just the airport itself.
“It is a real important
day for the community,”
said Spencer. “It is pretty
impressive to have an area
of this size to have airline
service and also pretty
impressive for an airport of
this size to have commer-
cial service for 50 years.”
There was a time when
it looked like Manistee
might have been left with
single engine nine-seat
plane for service. The
switch to Frontier Airlines
is something that airport
authority member Paul
Schulert said it was a
major difference.
“At that time we
thought we were going
nowhere quick and this
is very positive,” said
Schulert. “It seems to me
to be a perfect fit for us,
and I hope it is for them
and that they gain passen-
gers.”
