1. A 20-mm dia. commercial steel pipe, 30m long is used to drain an open oil tank.

Determine
the discharge when the oil level in the tank is 3m above the exit of the pipe. Neglect minor
losses and assume f=0.12.
2. A pump draws 20 lit/sec of water from a reservoir A to reservoir B as shown. Assuming
f=0.02 for all pipes, compute the horsepower delivered by the pump and the pressure at
point 1.

3. Three pipes of different lengths and diameters connected in series, discharges 160 liters per
second. If the roughness coefficient n=0.012 and disregarding minor losses, determine the
total head loss of the three pipes.
Pipe 1 is 450mm dia. and 1800m long;
Pipe 2 is 300mm dia. and 1500m long; and
Pipe 3 is 250mm dia. and 800m long.
4. The total head loss from A to E in the figure shown is 15m. Find the discharge in Pipe 2.
Assume f=0.02 for all pipes.
5. The total head loss from A to E in the figure shown is 15m. Find the discharge in Pipe 1.
Assume f=0.02 for all pipes.

6. A pipe system, connecting two reservoir whose difference in water surface elevation is 13m,
consist of 320m of 600mm pipe (Pipe1), branching into 640m of 300mm diameter pipe
(Pipe2) and 640m of 450mm diameter pipe (Pipe3) in parallel, which join again to a single
600mm diameter line 1300m long (Pipe4). Assuming f=0.032 for all pipes, determine the flow
rate in Pipe 1.
