Recycling is the process of producing a new product out of an old one. Old or used materials are
changed by altering them or totally breaking them down. Plastic is an example of material which can
return to its original form when recycled by means of chemical and mechanical ways.

factory would incur waste which is normally dumped in their environment. Thus, for environmental
reason, recycling limits these processes and allow the environment to rest. For economic reasons,
recycling saves money, conserve resources, creates jobs, and generates revenues for ethical and
moral reasons. Recycling can be a way of life that can benefit in the future generation. Imagine a less
wasteful society and a greener inhabitable environment to be enjoyed by future generations.
Recycling brings about so many benefits like: • Employment through livelihood products • Helping
reduce pollution and the need for landfills • Helping save energy by reducing the use of fuel in
manufacturing products • Helping families save money by reducing expenses for buying new
products • Helping the economy through investments in local recycling programs. • Helping
conserve and sustain the use of natural resources for future generations. • Bringing out the
innovative skills of individuals, and • Promoting community spirit through unity and cooperation

1. The first step is collecting. Recyclable materials from the house school and other establishments.
There are recyclable and non-recyclable materials.
2. The second step is segregation or sorting. Sorting is done by arranging recyclable materials
according to use and providing recycling containers for each of the recyclable and label them as
paper, plastic, glass, metal (including aluminum).
3. The third step is processing. The recycling plant facilities this step. Recyclable materials are broken
down (plastic), crushed (glass, aluminum, metal), or shredded and mashed paper into their basic
elements until they become raw materials for new products.
The following are the list of recyclable materials that may be used to create new products. Papers,
bottles, cans, and plastics are called solid waste.
1.Paper This includes newspapers, magazines, paper bags, and spare notebooks sheets which are
very abundant in home, school, and office. This material can be recycled according to how people in
the community commonly used them.
2.Bottles/Glass This includes polyethylene terephthalate or PET (materials commonly used in plastic
bottles) and glass bottles which are the most common packaging of products that you can see in the
market. The appearance and look can be the reason why they can be used many times. Bottles can
be a used through recycling for economic reasons.
3.Metal Aside from wood, metals are highly saleable in junk shops. Companies buy used cans to be
recycled into metal packaging like containers for canned goods, drinks, and other materials. Metals
are also used as cooking utensils and home accessories or furniture.
4. Wood There are many products that can be produced from recycled wood like plant box, chair,
garden accessories, wooden flooring, and garden decks.
5.Plastic There are many ways of reusing or recycling plastics. It can be made into water and plant
containers, desk organizers, garden lamps, etc. This is the easiest waste material to recycle.
