The earliest inhabitants of the Philippines were the progenitors of the people known
today as Negritos or Aeta.

2. What do you understand by the term aborigines? Why are the Aetas considered the
aborigines of the Philippines?
Aborigines are people who were the first to live in a certain region. The Aetas are
considered the Philippines' aborigines since they were among the country's first known
migrants or immigrants.

3. Trace the spread of the Malays from their ancestral home somewhere in the southeastern
mainland.
Malays spread from their ancestral home somewhere on the southeastern mainland.
Malays are an Austronesian ethnic group native to eastern Sumatra, the Malay Peninsula,
and coastal Borneo, as well as the smaller islands in between - the Malay world. They
expanded to Malaysia, Indonesia, the southern part of Thailand, Singapore, and Brunei
Darussalam, among other locations. They have also spread to other regions, including
South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States,
Myanmar, and Canada.
