Even crude methanol with a water content as high as 20 wi%, as typical for un-fractionated methanol converter effluent, could represent an acceptable feed if available in the vicinity of the MTP unit. In view of the production of ethylene is desirable on a coproduct basis as a comonomer for captive polypropylene production, the overall process scheme includes recovering and purifying ethylene to polymer-grade ethylene as a by-product.
