Sub: INCOIS-IMD Joint Special Message - Ocean State Forecast associated with Well Marked
Low Pressure Area over central parts of south Bay of Bengal.

The Low Pressure Area over southeast Bay of Bengal lay as a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over
southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs IST of today the 10th November.
It lay over central parts of south Bay of Bengal at 0830 hrs IST. It is likely to concentrate into
a Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours, move west– northwestwards and
reach near north Tamilnadu coast by the early morning of 11th November, 2021. Thereafter, it is
likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu & adjoining south
Andhra Pradesh coast between Karaikal & Sriharikota around Cuddalore by the evening of 11th
November 2021.
High Wave/Ocean State warning/alert for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala

Tamil Nadu:

High waves in the range of 2.5 – 3.4 meters are forecasted during 17:30 hrs of 10-11-2021 to 23:30 hours
of 11-11-2021 off Northern Tamil Nadu coast (from Point Calimer to Pulicat). Surface Current speeds
vary between 75 - 200 cm/sec.

High waves in the range of 3.0 - 3.3 meters are predicted during 17:30 hrs of 10-11-2021 to 23:30 hours
of 11-11-2021 off Southern Tamil Nadu coast (from Kolachal to Kilakarai). Current speeds vary
between 44 - 76 cm/sec.

Andhra Pradesh:

High waves in the range of 3.0 - 3.7 meters are forecasted during 17:30 hrs of 10-11-2021 to 23:30 hours
of 11-11-2021 along the coast of Andhra Pradesh between Dugarajapatnam to Baruva. Current speeds
vary between 75-225 cm/sec.

Kerala:

High waves in the range of 2.5 - 3.3 meters are forecasted during 17:30 hrs of 10-11-2021 to 23:30 hours
of 11-11-2021 along the Kerala coast between Vizhinjam to Kasargod. Current speeds vary between 63 -
76 cm/sec.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into southwest & adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and along & off

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & south Andhra Pradesh coasts during 10 – 11 November.
Rainfall:

10 Nov.: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places
& extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over north coastal Tamil Nadu, north interior
Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over
Rayalaseema.

11 Nov.: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places
& extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over north coastal Tamil Nadu, north interior
Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

Wind warning:
Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to prevail over southwest
& adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and along & off Tamil Nadu & south Andhra Pradesh coasts
during 10th – 11th November.

EXPECTED IMPACT & ACTION SUGGESTED


. Impact Expected
. Localized Flooding of roads, inundation and water logging in low lying areas and
closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas of the above region.
. Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.
. Disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased
travel time.
. Minor damage to kutcha roads.
. Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structure.
. Localized Landslides/Mudslides
. Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.
. It may lead to riverine flooding in some river catchments (for riverine flooding please
visit Web page of CWC)

. Action Suggested
. Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
. Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
. Avoid going to areas that face the water logging problems often.
. Avoid staying in vulnerable structure.
