How have you contributed to solving a challenge and to implementing change or reform? (Be specific and include: what aspect/s of your
leadership knowledge, skills and practice you consider to be well established and effective; which people or organisations you worked with to
solve the problem; and what creative methods were used.)
I am working as a Quality professional at Princely Jets which is a private aircraft charter and maintenance organization in Pakistan. My primary
responsibility includes ensuring continued airworthiness of aircraft which is accomplished by complying with the maintenance procedures by aircraft
engineers as prescribed by the regulatory authority (Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority- PCAA). PCAA had instructed all the aviation maintenance
organizations to streamline their maintenance procedures in compliance with European Union Aviation Safety Agency regulations. These regulations
primarily focus on enhanced aircraft flight safety by adapting internationally approved maintenance process improvement techniques. Incorporating
the approved maintenance procedures into the company exposition manual and subsequently going for their implementation were not straightforward
tasks due to non-existent dedicated engineering budget and untrained staff. I was assigned the task of developing company maintenance procedures
and completed it well in time. However, coming up with the schedule and a timeline to implement each process was challenging. I worked very closely
with the management by negotiating personnel training time despite tight schedules for customer projects to ensure the timeline of the
implementation was met. The company exposition manual got approved by PCAA and we were certified as an approved aircraft maintenance
organization.
Please:- a) give up to three practical examples of how you intend to use the knowledge, skills and connections you will gain from your
scholarship. Possible tasks can be personal and/or professional; and
b) list any possible constraints you think may prevent you from achieving these tasks.
Firstly, I will be preparing a feasibility study on the use of sustainable renewable fuel instead of conventional fuel in an attempt to persuade aviation
industrialists to adapt to this trend. The study will highlight the significant impact on the environment (substantiated with foreign industries
data)leading to the improved well-being of inhabitants due to a considerable reduction in carbon emission. However, this technology is expensive
upfront which might create hindrances in adopting this fuel type. Secondly, I shall initiate an online consultancy forum that will emphasize the
significance of achieving aviation business optimization by reducing non-value-added processes. I shall use my aviation experience coupled with
strategic analysis and business acumen to formulate a business case that would emphasize the need of reducing aircraft maintenance costs. Sales and
Marketing skills will help me formulate Cost-Benefit Analysis to figure out the ways of reaching business sustainability, whereas my existing quality
management skills will be used to formulate a strategy that would result in maintenance cost savings. However, complacency and non-cooperation of
aviation industrialists might play a key role in the non-achievement of this goal. Thirdly, I shall build a volunteer team that will work under my
supervision. Their task will be to spread awareness about safe hygienic practices among the rural inhabitants. Special attention will be given to women
as they are mainly responsible for the upbringing of their families. The task force team will mostly comprise female staff so that rural women will be at
ease sharing their problems. I will mentor my team members on how to use leadership skills and people management skills to achieve the objectives.
However prevailing feudalism in rural areas will forbid women to voice their opinions and thoughts and it may cause impediment to the realization of
this task.
