Supporting Statement
Why did you choose your proposed course and institution?
I have chosen an MBA considering my tendency of staying up to date on the industry’s latest developments and analyzing their pros & cons. This
approach has always helped me in my current job as well, which requires implementing and overseeing continuous process improvements in aircraft
maintenance. The passion for bringing about a lasting change in the developing sectors of Pakistan has motivated me to pursue an MBA degree.
Having the required professional experience in Quality Management, I intend to apply my existing skills, knowledge to develop and further hone my
business acumen. Being a Certified Quality Professional with significant experience in the field, I strongly believe that an MBA will help me improve my
sales/marketing skills, interpersonal and communication skills, leadership and people management skills. Secondly, the selection of an institute for
higher studies is one important step that determines the future prospects of a student. When I learned about the Australian Awards Scholarship, I
began to study courses and curriculum being offered at different Australian universities. During the selection phase, besides quality education (as per
university rankings), my other preferences were quality of life in the city, networking opportunities, and city tourist attractions. As I am fond of
exploring nature and learning about different foreign cultures, I preferred universities in Canberra and Melbourne cities. Canberra is renowned for its
nature and mountains whereas Melbourne boasts itself as being Australian Cultural Capital with amazing museums and street art. Therefore, my first
three institution preferences are Australian National University(1st preference), Melbourne University(2nd preference), and Monash University(3rd
preference). These universities besides having a world-class education system, also offer a strong alumni network which opens doors of networking
opportunities for students.

How will the proposed study contribute to your career?

I believe that the proposed MBA program will help develop and further broaden the horizon of knowledge pertaining to business acumen, strategic
analysis, ethical decision making, interpersonal and people management skills. These skills attribute to a strong business strategic mindset which will
help me grow professionally. I intend to contribute to the aviation industry sector upon my return to Pakistan, as this sector has a great potential for
expansion. I am also a Certified Quality Professional having professional attainment in Quality Management. I will therefore utilize my existing skills
combined with business management skills for aviation business process improvements, specifically optimizing fuel consumption processes in small
airlines. This process improvement will help airlines achieve sustainability in terms of revenue growth due to a great reduction in operating costs.
Moreover, I shall also attempt to advocate the idea of adaptation to modernized fuel technology, such as renewable fuel, in collaboration with the
Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), which will also help alleviate the increasing environmental degradation. By adopting this alternate fuel, airlines
will be able to build resilient operating infrastructure, while attracting more customers due to their improved recognition as a result of this innovation.
My current experience of managing and implementing maintenance process improvements as a Quality Professional when coupled with core business
skills learned during an MBA will help bring a notable increase in the overall productivity of airlines. After gaining good exposure in managing such
process improvement tasks, I will offer consultancy services to small airlines which will be focused on adaptation to this latest technological trend and
implementation of an effective quality and safety management system. These innovative changes will result in the optimization of the business
processes of airlines and increased profitability.

How have you contributed to solving a challenge and to implementing change or reform? (Be specific and include: what aspect/s of your
leadership knowledge, skills and practice you consider to be well established and effective; which people or organisations you worked with to
solve the problem; and what creative methods were used.)
I am working as a Quality professional at Princely Jets which is a private aircraft charter and maintenance organization in Pakistan. My primary
responsibility includes ensuring continued airworthiness of aircraft which is accomplished by complying with the maintenance procedures by aircraft
engineers as prescribed by the regulatory authority (Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority- PCAA). PCAA had instructed all the aviation maintenance
organizations to streamline their maintenance procedures in compliance with European Union Aviation Safety Agency regulations. These regulations
primarily focus on enhanced aircraft flight safety by adapting internationally approved maintenance process improvement techniques. Incorporating
the approved maintenance procedures into the company exposition manual and subsequently going for their implementation were not straightforward
tasks due to non-existent dedicated engineering budget and untrained staff. I was assigned the task of developing company maintenance procedures
and completed it well in time. However, coming up with the schedule and a timeline to implement each process was challenging. I worked very closely
with the management by negotiating personnel training time despite tight schedules for customer projects to ensure the timeline of the
implementation was met. The company exposition manual got approved by PCAA and we were certified as an approved aircraft maintenance
organization.

Please:- a) give up to three practical examples of how you intend to use the knowledge, skills and connections you will gain from your
scholarship. Possible tasks can be personal and/or professional; and
b) list any possible constraints you think may prevent you from achieving these tasks.
Firstly, I will be preparing a feasibility study on the use of sustainable renewable fuel instead of conventional fuel in an attempt to persuade aviation
industrialists to adapt to this trend. The study will highlight the significant impact on the environment (substantiated with foreign industries
data)leading to the improved well-being of inhabitants due to a considerable reduction in carbon emission. However, this technology is expensive
upfront which might create hindrances in adopting this fuel type. Secondly, I shall initiate an online consultancy forum that will emphasize the
significance of achieving aviation business optimization by reducing non-value-added processes. I shall use my aviation experience coupled with
strategic analysis and business acumen to formulate a business case that would emphasize the need of reducing aircraft maintenance costs. Sales and
Marketing skills will help me formulate Cost-Benefit Analysis to figure out the ways of reaching business sustainability, whereas my existing quality
management skills will be used to formulate a strategy that would result in maintenance cost savings. However, complacency and non-cooperation of
aviation industrialists might play a key role in the non-achievement of this goal. Thirdly, I shall build a volunteer team that will work under my
supervision. Their task will be to spread awareness about safe hygienic practices among the rural inhabitants. Special attention will be given to women
as they are mainly responsible for the upbringing of their families. The task force team will mostly comprise female staff so that rural women will be at
ease sharing their problems. I will mentor my team members on how to use leadership skills and people management skills to achieve the objectives.
However prevailing feudalism in rural areas will forbid women to voice their opinions and thoughts and it may cause impediment to the realization of
this task.
